Jane Seymour has opened up about a near-death experience she had in 1988.
The actor, 72, who rose to fame as Bond girl Solitaire in the 007 film Live and Let Die, nearly died after she contracted bronchitis during filming and an antibiotic was injected into a vein rather than a muscle.

The song is featured three separate times in the episode, including actors Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett playing the track on a piano. “Long Long Time” is also the title of the episode.
“I don’t follow social media or streaming services very closely,” Ronstadt told Billboard, citing that she never owned the master of “Long Long Time” written by Gary White. “I still love the song and I’m very glad that Gary will get a windfall.”

Beyond its Grammy nomination, the film was nominated for three Critics Choice awards in 2019, and ultimately picked up two wins there, for Most Compelling Living Subject...

One year after The Sound of My Voice, Linda Ronstadt will star in another documentary: Linda and the Mockingbirds. Directed by James Keach, the film chronicles her 2019 visit to Mexico with Jackson Browne and the students of Los Cenzontles Cultural Arts Academy.
In the new trailer, Ronstadt, Browne, and Los Cenzontles embark on the bus ride from the Bay Area to Mexico. Due to Ronstadt’s health (she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2012), she had to be able to lay down during the ride. “That’s another reason for the bus,...

“Linda and the Mockingbirds,” a documentary about Linda Ronstadt making a journey to Mexico to explore her musical roots there, has been picked up for worldwide rights by Shout! Studios, the distribution and production division of the Shout! Factory home video company.
The film was originally slated to premiere at the Telluride Film Festival over Labor Day weekend. Shout! is promising that the doc will be out later in 2020 via various distribution platforms.
In a follow-up to last year’s Ronstadt documentary “The Sound of My Voice,” “Linda and the Mockingbirds” narrows in on a road trip undertaken by Ronstadt, Jackson Browne and a group of younger musicians made to the Mexican town of Banámichi in the state of Sonora, the birthplace of Ronstadt’s beloved grandfather.

Utopia Distribution has acquired “Turning Point,” a documentary that follows researchers in their quest to develop treatments for Alzheimer’s. It will premiere on Altavod, Utopia’s new distribution platform on Sept. 21 before being made available on other streaming platforms such as Amazon and iTunes a day later.
The release is being tied to World Alzheimer’s Day. The film was directed by James Keach, the documentarian behind “Glen Campbell… I’ll Be Me,” a portrait of the country music legend’s farewell tour after revealing he had been diagnosed with the disease.
“Turning Point” investigates the complex issues facing the American healthcare system as it seeks to treat a disease that has no cure and investigates why Alzheimer’s has a disproportionate impact on minority and disadvantaged communities.
“Turning Point” originally hit the festival circuit in 2018, but has been updated to address new developments in the research field.

There will be no Telluride Film Festival this Labor Day in Colorado, but the programmers have unveiled what this year’s selections would have been. Much like the Cannes Film Festival’s 2020 lineup, this year’s Telluride films can at least carry the imprimatur of the festival as we head into the fall circuit. The 47th edition of the Telluride Film Festival was scheduled for September 3-7. See the full lineup, as revealed on Monday, below.
The idea in presenting the Telluride selections is to recommend the best in film this year in hopes that audiences will seek out these movies at other fall festivals (or what remains of them) down the line. With the 2021 Academy Awards pushed way out to April 25, there’s at once less pressure on these films to perform for awards but also a crush of movies backlogged since quarantine hit, making for a competitive season.

The list of candidates for the 2020 Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ Board of Governors election is now out, with the winner in each branch being chosen directly from these entries rather than whittling it down to four finalists in each, as has been done previously. The list of candidates is made up of qualified AMPAS members who actually submit themselves.
Also new this year in the streamlined timetable, as Deadline exclusively reported May 16. The winners for the 17 open slots on the 54-member board will be chosen by preferential balloting, just like Best Picture race at the Oscars. Voting begins Monday and ballots are due back June 5.
The actors branch is the largest in the Academy and it also has drawn the biggest field of contenders for the one spot that is up. Incumbent governor Whoopi Goldberg is running for re-election against past governor Ed Begley Jr. vying to return to the board.

Jane Seymour’s abiding interest in dementia led to her landing the lead role in Ruby’s Choice, producer/director Michael Budd’s drama with comic overtones, which starts shooting in Brisbane later this month.
The British American actress who made her name in the 1970s as Bond girl Solitaire in Live and Let Die and in TV’s The Onedin Line, Our Mutual Friend and Battlestar Galactica, will play the title role, a loving grandmother who has dementia.
Coco Jack Gillies will portray her 16-year-old granddaughter Tash.
Jacqueline McKenzie is Ruby’s daughter Sharon with Stephen Hunter as her husband Doug.
Emerging Brisbane writer Paul Mahoney wrote the screenplay, pitched it to Budd and it immediately struck a chord as the filmmaker lost his grandmother to dementia.

Fans of Linda Ronstadt have swooned over her voice, a powerful instrument that can blast the dust off an Everly Brothers classic and breathe new life into jazz and mariachi standards. Yet what comes through most strongly in a recent documentary about the singer is the way she used her vocal abilities to call attention to the work of others.
“I can always do a harmony part,” Ronstadt says in a recent interview.
The film, “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice,” airs on CNN at 9 p.m. on New Year’s Day after a recent theater run, and tells the story via a time-capsule of clips, video moments and Ronstadt’s own words of how the singer captured public fascination with her carefully chosen covers of tunes by Roy Orbison, Clint Ballard Jr. and Warren Zevon, among others. But it also depicts her knack for helping those whose efforts...

Linda Ronstadt was always tough to figure out. And for the filmmakers behind “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice,” which premiered on Friday night at the Tribeca Film Festival, that makes her both a rich subject for a non-fiction film, and a challenging one.
Ronstadt, after all, is a singer whose career was defined by restlessness and genre-hopping; a rock ‘n’ roll sex symbol whose upper lip alone launched thousands of crushes but who was always far smarter than even her fans gave her credit for being; a perfectionist who knew what she wanted but had trouble believing she was good enough to give it; and a private woman in a public game.
She wasn’t easily summed up when she first came to Los Angeles more than five decades also, and she isn’t easily summed up now.

Sony Pictures Classics announced Monday that it has acquired the North American rights to “David Crosby: Remember My Name,” the documentary on the career and life of the Crosby, Stills and Nash singer that premiered Saturday at the Sundance Film Festival.
The deal also includes several other territories outside the U.S. — Sony Pictures Classics has yet to set release plans.
Cameron Crowe produced the documentary directed by A.J. Eaton that is competing in the U.S. Documentary section at Sundance. “Remember My Name” attempts to go beyond the conventions of typical rock-doc profiles and observes the often candid Crosby throughout his 50-year career in music.

Exclusive: Another one on the Sundance deal hit parade. Sony Pictures Classics has won an auction for David Crosby: Remember My Name, the A.J. Eaton-directed documentary about the folk singing legend. Deal is low seven-figures for North American rights plus some other territories. Pic premiered Saturday at the Marc.
Produced by Cameron Crowe, Meet David Crosby is a documentary portrait of a man with everything but an easy retirement on his mind. The film is an honest, warts and all self-examination of the life and career of Crosby, as the musical icon seeks a creative renaissance at age 77. This followed Crosby facing an uncertain future after the 2015 dissolution of Crosby, Stills and Nash. We learn that Crosby is not on speaking terms with Steven Stills and Graham Nash, and it is part of a very complex man. The film expresses his regrets, fears, exuberance, faith in family and the transformative nature of music.

If there’s a common theme weaved throughout the 2018 Nashville Film Festival, it’s a strong sense of diversity. With submissions from more than 135 countries and female filmmakers making up more than 40% of the film bracket, in addition to several films led by African-Americans and those who defy gender norms, filmmakers from wide-ranging backgrounds are turning to the Nashville Film Festival as an outlet to share their voices.
“The storytelling has gotten deeper,” artistic director Brian Owens says of the 2018 festival, which runs May 10-19 at Regal Hollywood Stadium 27. “These films really address the now, all the way through the program. There really seems to be an urgency that wasn’t there before. It’s a reflection of the times.”
This sense of urgency is mirrored in the festival’s numerous documentaries, a category in which the presence of women is prominent across a variety of socially conscious films. “Dark Money” is one example,...

Walter Hill’s “The Long Riders,” (1980) is an account of the last days of the legendary James-Younger outlaw gang. The film starts with a botched bank job, in which one of the gang, Ed Miller (Dennis Quaid), gets nervous and shoots an unarmed customer. There’s more shooting and they manage to get away but everyone agrees Ed’s got to go. It’s the first indication of trouble—the first sign that the gang’s best days may be behind them. The rest of the film follows the trajectory of their decline, as they attract the attention of the Pinkerton Detective Agency, and make a disastrous attempt to rob a bank in Northfield, Minn.
“The Long Riders” is praiseworthy for trying to be something other than just another shoot-em-up western. But it’s a movie with a gimmick...

Cameron Crowe has signed on to produce BMG’s documentary about David Crosby, the mustachioed one-third of the great Crosby Stills & Nash classic rock trio. The film will be directed by A.J. Eaton.
“It’s just such a compelling story,” said Crowe. “David Crosby has been near the forefront of music and social change for the last four decades. Now 76, he’s forging a new path by seeking out younger musicians and trying to make a mark in a world now so different from the generation he came to define in the ’60s.”
Crowe said the untitled doc will be “a raw and moving portrait, rough edges and all,” and that Eaton (pictured, with Crosby and Crowe) has been “filming Croz for the last several years.”

BMG announced today that Oscar-winning filmmaker Cameron Crowe, best known for rock-themed films such as “Singles” and “Almost Famous,” has signed a deal with the company to produce a documentary on the life of rock icon David Crosby. It is the first documentary about the veteran rocker — a founding member of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young — to be fully authorized by the artist. BMG is both financier and executive producer of the film, with all rights available worldwide.
The still-untitled film is helmed by first time feature-doc director A.J. Eaton (pictured above with Crosby, center, and Crowe, right), who has been following the singer for several years. In addition to producing the documentary, Crowe has conducted multiple interviews with Crosby. Crowe previously wrote and directed the musical documentaries “Pearl Jam Twenty (PJ20)” and “The Union,” on the 2011 collaboration between Elton John and Leon Russell.

The recent passing of Stephen Hawking lends a poignant timeliness to the release of James Keach's (Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me) documentary about Augie Nieto. Nieto, a fitness entrepreneur who revolutionized the industry with his product The Lifecycle, was at the peak of his professional success when he was afflicted with Als, better known as Lou Gehrig's disease, at age 47. Diagnosed in 2005 with a condition that in most cases leads to death within two to three years, Nieto is still going strong. Augie's Quest to Cure Als, an organization he founded, has raised more than $60 million for...
