Paul McCartney was the only one to push back against his Beatles bandmates when they wanted to appoint Allen Klein as their new manager. John Lennon was the biggest supporter of Klein, and George Harrison made it clear he backed him too. McCartney believed he could delay Klein’s appointment, but a vote by his bandmates put a stop to his hopes.
Paul McCartney felt betrayed by his Beatles bandmates
During a Friday night recording session, Klein visited The Beatles and told them he needed their contract with him signed immediately. He claimed he had a board meeting the following morning. McCartney pushed back, wanting to take the weekend to review the deal. When Lennon accused him of stalling, McCartney said he had a right to wait until Monday to sign.

The Beatles continue to break records long after their musical reign across the world.
A long-lost John Lennon guitar has sold for more than $2.85 million at auction at Times Square’s Hard Rock Cafe where collectors, fans and industry aficionados had gathered from around the globe to witness the event.
Lennon’s 1964 Framus “Help!” Hootenanny acoustic guitar was also used by George Harrison during the recording sessions for the 1965 Beatles album Rubber Soul.
It had been discovered — after not being seen or played for over 50 years — at the end of 1965. Lennon gifted the guitar to Gordon Waller of Peter and Gordon, for whom he and Paul McCartney had been writing songs. But Waller later passed the guitar onto a manager of his who took it home and left it in the attic.

The guitar had an estimated price of $600,000 to $800,000, but was expected to fetch far more. It surpassed the $2.4 million price tag of Lennon’s Gibson J160E, which sold in 2015.

Paul McCartney spent the end of the 1960s in a state of distress over The Beatles’ new manager, Allen Klein. He hadn’t wanted Klein as the group’s manager, but his bandmates outvoted him. McCartney said he grew so stressed about Klein’s presence in band affairs that he started to have nightmares about him.
Paul McCartney frequently had dreams about The Beatles’ manager
In 1967, The Beatles’ longtime manager Brian Epstein died. In the aftermath, the band struggled to manage themselves and began looking into new managers. McCartney wanted his future father-in-law, John Eastman, to take the job, but his bandmates outvoted him three to one. Against McCartney’s wishes, Klein became the band’s new manager.
Before they signed with Klein, though, he visited The Beatles in a recording session. McCartney knew John Lennon and George Harrison wanted Klein, but he was “dragging his heels.”

Not for the first time, social media users have begun to spread unsubstantiated rumors that Taylor Swift is pregnant. For some fans, the rumors are wishful thinking, hoping that Swift is settling down with boyfriend Travis Kelce. Others have latched onto comments made by Kelce on his podcast earlier this year. For some, though, the pregnancy rumors appear to be nothing more than malicious speculation about Swift’s appearance.
Some social media users have questioned whether or not Taylor Swift is pregnant
Recently, a video circulated on social media of Swift during the Eras Tour, basking in applause from reverent fans. She shines in an orange, pink, and red bodysuit with matching boots. Quickly, commenters on social media began to speculate about Swift being pregnant, believing that the brief video depicts her with a baby bump.
Just as quickly, fans took to social media to express their disappointment and disgust with the rumors.

In 1967, The Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein died unexpectedly. His death shocked the band and forced them to accept further responsibility for the group’s management. According to those around The Beatles, this was not a good thing. After Epstein’s death, they began making a series of terrible decisions that felt incredibly “juvenile.”

David Puttnam worked as a photographer’s agent when he met The Beatles. He was friendly with the band, but he recalled feeling disappointed with their decisions in the period after Epstein’s death.

Billie Eilish fans shouldn’t expect three-hour concerts anytime in the near future.
Following the release of her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, the Grammy and Oscar winner took to the music app Stationhead to answer fan questions live.
When asked if she would ever perform a three-hour-long show — similar to what Taylor Swift and Beyoncé have done for the Eras Tour and Renaissance World Tour, respectively — Eilish responded, “I’m not doing a three-hour show, that’s literally psychotic.”
“Nobody wants that,” she could be heard saying in recordings posted on X, formerly Twitter. “You guys don’t want that. I don’t want that. I don’t even want that as a fan. My favorite artist in the world, I’m not trying to hear them for three hours.”

When Brian Epstein offered to serve as The Beatles’ manager, he had no experience in that type of role. He believed in the band, though, and they agreed to work with him. In their years together, Epstein helped The Beatles as they became the biggest band in the world. Despite their success, Epstein continually spoke about selling the band. Paul McCartney said they all found this highly offensive.

Paul McCartney and John Lennon were on decidedly bad terms after The Beatles broke up. McCartney sued his bandmates to take control of their catalog from their manager, Allen Klein. The other three Beatles resented him for this, and their interactions following the split were chilly. After a phone argument with Lennon, McCartney made a mistake that only made things worse.
Paul McCartney made an uncomfortable mistake after a fight with John Lennon
As the former members of The Beatles worked their way through the lawsuit, Lennon made it clear to them that he wanted indemnity. He reportedly had over $1 million in personal debts and wanted protection. McCartney spoke to his lawyer, John Eastman, then called Lennon to tell him he could have indemnity.
The conversation began friendly enough, but when McCartney began to talk about business, Lennon’s mood soured.
“John said, ‘F***ing indemnity. F***ing this, f***ing that.

Known for the Oscar-winning “American Beauty” and the Bond films, “Skyfall,” and “Spectre,” Mendes isn’t just taking the bold step of making a fictional film about the Beatles, he’s making four of them, one about each member: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Kicking off the start of Summer with the big Memorial Day weekend, a new documentary poses the question: What’s the “go-to” music for this season? Well, for the past 63 years, it’s been these pop icons out of Hawthorne, California, of course. Their signature songs invoke memories of ocean waves hitting the sand as eager athletes run through the foam with their trusty boards. Interestingly only one member of the original band surfed, though when watching a blonde adonis catching a “tasty wave”, you automatically, in your head, recall the sweet infectious harmonies of The Beach Boys.
After opening with glorious footage of an electric 1975 outdoor concert (naturally in the bright Summer sun), the doc springs back 15 or so years to the modest suburban home on 119th Street when the eldest Wilson brother Brian became fascinated by the careful vocal craftsmanship of the Four Freshmen along with other musical acts.

The Beatles were a group of four, but they required many more people behind the scenes to support them. Many, like their longtime producer George Martin, proved to be excellent connections for the band, helping them improve their music. Others were not as beneficial for the band. According to Ron Kass, the former president of Apple Records, the band trusted many people they should not have.
Those who knew The Beatles said they were not good judges of character
For much of The Beatles’ time as a band, they relied on their manager, Brian Epstein. He had concerns about their judgment when it came to other people.
“And as Brian once said, the boys were very bad judges of character,” press officer Derek Taylor said in the book All You Need Is Love: The Beatles in Their Own Words by Peter Brown and Steven Gaines.

For a time, John Lennon was the clear frontman of The Beatles. His bandmates looked to him with admiration and media outlets established him as the group’s leader. According to a Beatles associate, this was a position Lennon wanted but could not hold. He grew too lazy as the 1960s wore on.

“I could communicate with Paul. I suppose I was closer to him, but I was always enamored of John’s enigmatic personality,” Brown told Rolling Stone. “Paul was the thorough one, the workaholic, and John was lazy.”

The second episode of the newly relaunched Doctor Who is a haunting, contemplative story about what might happen if the world was robbed of its love of music. Like all good Who sci-fi premises, “The Devil’s Chord” takes something that is a given about human nature, and suggests our experience of life might be totally different without that thing. Just like “Blink” made us worry about trying to control our inherent reflex to bat our eyes, “The Devil’s Chord” makes us worried about how depressing and dystopian things would become without being able to hear a tune.
The episode also features a bootleg version of The Beatles, which should be a slam-dunk for Doctor Who, but isn’t. Instead, in creating a timey-wimey story about the death of music in a bizarro timeline, Who makes some blunders about why The Beatles became The Beatles.
Spoilers ahead.

The music of Crosby, Stills, and Nash was celebrated with a tribute concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall on Monday night. The lineup included Todd Rundgren, Steve Earle, Yola, Grace Potter, Guster, Rickie Lee Jones, Shawn Colvin, A.C. Newman, Iron & Wine, Real Estate, and several others. Graham Nash wasn’t officially on the bill, but he came out at the end of the night to perform a moving rendition of “Our House.”
“Let’s give a big round of applause to the 20 incredible artists that performed tonight,” he said.

London, May 13, 2024 – In an event sure to pique the interest of both music aficionados and philanthropists, a pair of boots custom-made for Paul McCartney’s memorable performance at the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony is set to be auctioned at Sotheby’s. This exclusive sale, running from May 24th to 31st, is part of Sotheby’s Sealed during the Modern British take-over and serves a charitable cause close to McCartney’s heart — the Meat Free Monday campaign’s 15th anniversary.
Crafted from alternative suede by Steven Lowe for Eastbourne-based Crispinians, these boots pay homage to the iconic Beatle boots that became a global phenomenon in the 1960s, thanks to Paul McCartney and The Beatles. BBC’s Doctor Who has always maintained a tight budget, and this is mainly the reason why they could not get permission to use at least one The Beatles song. The band’s price is way too beyond the budget of the show, something that producer Matthew Weiner was willing to pay for the Mad Men series.

Even decades after releasing some songs, Paul McCartney sees fans poring over the lyrics, searching for meaning. John Lennon once said this was fruitless on some Beatles songs, as he wrote lines to purposely confuse fans. According to McCartney, fans might find themselves in a similar situation with his solo work. He said that some of the lyrics in one song had no meaning behind them.
Paul McCartney said the lyrics to 1 song had little meaning behind them
In 1971, McCartney released Ram, his second post-Beatles album. Though the album initially received a poor critical reception, many have reviewed it significantly more favorably in retrospect. As fans continue to listen to the album, they’ve wondered what some of the whimsical, seemingly meaningless lyrics mean.

This post contains spoilers for the latest episodes of "Doctor Who."
It turns out love really is all you need. Well, love and a Time Lord willing to fight off the spirit of music through a delightfully campy song battle that sees literal musical notes fill the air. The showdown between the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa), Ruby (Millie Gibson), and the chaotic being known as Maestro (Jinkx Monsoon) in the new season's second episode might be one of the goofiest things that's happened on "Doctor Who" recently -- and it's not even the most over-the-top part of the episode. "The Devil's Chord" takes some deliciously weird risks, the biggest of which is centering its drama on "characters" who aren't exactly historical figures yet: The Beatles.

Filmmaker Michael Lindsay-Hogg is having a bit of a “hail the conquering hero” moment that very few people would have expected him to be having this far into the 21st century, least of all himself. Although he has had many successes in film and in the theater over the last 60 years or so, he remains most famous as the director of the Beatles documentary “Let It Be” — and that 1970 film remains most famous as something that has been kept locked in the vault since it got a brief VHS and laserdisc release in the early 1980s. Shot in 1969 as the Beatles recorded their next-to-last album, “Let It Be” has been remembered largely as a glum look at a great band, rehearsing not so much for an album or concert as rehearsing for a breakup.
But what if it wasn’t really that at all? Two surprising developments have occurred to...

“Let It Be,” the legendary 1970 Beatles documentary that has been out of circulation since the ’80s, is now streaming on Disney+ in a new restoration by Peter Jackson and his Park Road Post Production. This long-lost Beatles artifact, which inspired Jackson to dig deeper with his Emmy-winning “The Beatles: Get Back” docuseries, captures director Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s fly-on-the-wall snapshot of the Fab Four’s creatively productive yet tense studio sessions for their final two albums — “Let It Be” and “Abbey Road” — followed by their joyous rooftop concert at Apple Corps headquarters.
“Peter’s a Beatles fan par excellence and, through his investigation [for ‘Get Back’], he ended up with this wonderful giant’s mood of a movie because he had the time to do it,” Lindsay-Hogg told IndieWire. “And also because he was a great tinkerer as well, he was able to come up with visual things and audio things that...

The upcoming summer release of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, is the next entry in George Miller and Byron Kennedy’s post-apocalyptic action film series Mad Max. Mad Max: Fury Road, which won an Oscar, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and The Road Warrior were the three subsequent flicks in the series after the 1979 release of the first movie.
However, it seems Taylor-Joy’s work on Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga didn’t attract as much attention as her covert marriage to Malcolm McRae, which took everyone by surprise. But now, it seems like the actress, 28, is making up for lost time with the perfect gift for her beloved husband after wrapping up filming for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

I first saw “Let It Be” when I was a kid, in the summer of 1970, just weeks after it was released. My family was coming off one of those “Vacation” road trips. During the miles of driving, we listened to Top 40 radio, which meant that several times a day I got to hear “The Long and Winding Road,” which I thought was the most beautiful song I’d ever heard. I knew that the first thing I was going to do when we got back was go to see “Let It Be” — and, in fact, it was the first Beatles thing I was old enough to connect to as it was happening.
The Beatles, in their early years, looked alike, and even after they’d entered the psychedelic zone with “Revolver” and “Sgt. Pepper” they dressed and coiffed themselves with a splashy coordinated harmony. They were unified. And that made a kind of supreme sense,...

Hell truly has frozen over, with a movie many of us Beatlemaniacs never thought we’d see (through legal channels) getting an official release on Disney Plus. The movie, of course, is Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s Let It Be. The film original came out theatrically in 1970 and coincided with the release of The Beatles’ final album of the same name. It followed the group as they recorded the titular album, and while it received a home video release in the 80s, it’s been buried ever since.
Rumours have always been that the surviving Beatles didn’t like how they were portrayed, with the documentary famously revealing the frayed tensions within the group that led to their split. As a fan, I thought it would stay buried, especially after the release of Peter Jackson’s epic-length Get Back, which used all the footage filmed for the Let It Be documentary and...

This past week, we’ve seen one high-profile upload from Walt Disney Studios’ YouTube account and several smaller, better ones. While Mufasa: The Lion King was downvoted 323k times, the videos promoting Let It Be are faring better on a smaller scale.
Unsurprisingly, snippets from the Beatles documentary aren’t pulling in the kind of numbers that a Lion King trailer is, but they’re far more pleasing to the eyes and ears. After all, Disney and the Fab Four are an odd pairing.
Regardless, I’m looking forward to the fully resorted release of Let It Be. First released in 1970, the Michael Lindsay-Hogg-directed film follows John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr as they rehearse and record their final album together.

Duane Eddy, the legendary guitarist who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, has passed away at the age of 86. He died of cancer on Tuesday (April 30th), surrounded by family members at Williamson Health hospital in Franklin, Tennessee.
Eddy is considered the most commercially successful instrumental musician in the history of rock ‘n’ roll, thanks in large part to his signature tunes like “Rebel-‘Rouser,” “Peter Gunn,” and “Because They’re Young.” By 1963, he had sold an estimated 12 million records.
The guitarist was known for his twangy sound and his collaborative work with producer Lee Hazlewood. His extensive album discography spanned from his 1958 debut, Have ‘Twangy’ Guitar Will Travel, through 2011’s Road Trip.
John Fogerty once dubbed Eddy the “the first rock ‘n’ roll guitar god.” His 1987 album, Duane Eddy & The Rebels, truly showed his influence, as it featured guest appearances by Fogerty, George Harrison, Paul McCartney,...

For better or worse, Neverland Ranch is one of the most famous celebrity properties ever. Michael Jackson bought the ranch because of an experience he had while filming the music video for his Paul McCartney duet “Say Say Say.” “Say Say Say” stands out from his other collaborations with Paul for another reason.

Jermaine Jackson is the second most famous member of The Jackson 5. In his 2014 book You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through a Brother’s Eyes, Jermaine said his brother always wanted to collaborate with Paul. Paul wrote a song called “Girlfriend” that appeared on the album Off the Wall. In the 1980s, Paul and Michael released two hit duets together: “The Girl Is Mine” from Thriller and “Say Say Say” from Paul’s album Pipes of Peace. Only the latter has a music video.

Michael Jackson‘s Thriller had more classic hits than just about any other album. However, most of those hits did not reach No. 1. Even when the King of Pop made an epic music video, a chart-topper was not guaranteed.
1. ‘Thriller’
The fact that “Thriller” didn’t hit No. 1 feels bizarre. No other music video mattered so much to American culture and yet the tune only peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. If Billboard counted sales of the video’s VHS as single sales, “Thriller” definitely would have hit No. 1.
Jackson (and Vincent Price) got the last laugh on this one. Everybody loves “Thriller.” It’s not just a popular Halloween song, it’s the Halloween song. It certainly held up a lot better than “Monster Mash.” The song’s classic video has been spoofed by everyone from Britney Spears to “Weird Al” Yankovic.
2. ‘The Girl Is Mine’
Not every song deserves to hit No.

The Billboard 200 measures the commercial performance of the top albums during the weekly tracking period from Friday through Thursday. While the charts used to be determined just by record sales, the evolving technological landscape has prompted Billboard to adjust its methodology in the 21st century.
One of the most significant alterations came in 2014 when Billboard transitioned to a combination of factors including online streams and individual track sales in addition to the traditional album sales that previously made up the entirety of the Billboard 200’s measurement. Now an album sale counts as one album unit. Sales of 10 individual tracks also counts as a unit. And you need 3,750 ad-supported streams or 1,250 paid subscription streams to equal one unit. In 2020 Billboard also started considering streams of music videos on platforms like YouTube.

Best never reaped the prolific benefits of the band’s success, though. They fired him just before hitting it big, which McCartney described as one of the most difficult things they ever had to do.
Paul McCartney said The Beatles had to make a difficult decision
In 1962, The Beatles auditioned for producer George Martin. While Martin saw potential in the band, he didn’t see a path forward for them with Best. He asked them to consider finding a new drummer.
“He agreed to audition us, and we had a not-very powerful audition in which he was not very pleased with Pete Best,” McCartney said in The Beatles Anthology. “George Martin was used to drummers being very ‘in time,...

The Beach Boys and The Monkees both evolved from bubblegum to psychedelia
The Beach Boys did very well for themselves in the 1960s. The Billboard Book of Number 1 Hits says they had three No. 1 singles during that decade. They were “I Get Around,” “Help Me, Rhonda,” and “Good Vibrations.” Those songs encapsulate the band’s pea period pretty well. The first two show off the band’s bubblegum/doo-wop side, while “Good Vibrations” is one of their prime psychedelic experimentations.
During the same decade, The Monkees also had three No. 1 hits. They were “Last Train to Clarksville,...
