Bruce Campbell will be the voice of President Richard M. Nixon in an indie thriller and dark comedy set in the Watergate era called “18 1/2” as directed by Slamdance Film Festival co-founder Dan Mirvish, Bugeater Films announced Friday.
The film’s live-action cast was also unveiled and stars Willa Fitzgerald, John Magaro, Vondie Curtis Hall, Catherine Curtin and Sullivan Jones. And alongside Campbell in the voice cast are Ted Raimi as Gen. Al Haig and Jon Cryer as H. R. Haldeman.
“18 1/2” is a historical fiction film about the 18 1/2 minutes of audio erased from President Nixon’s Oval Office voice recording system that led to the unraveling of the Watergate scandal. It made the audio’s erasure one of the worst incidents of evidence destruction by a presidential administration and something that’s been ripe for conspiracy theories. Campbell has previously played another President, playing Ronald Reagan on “Fargo,” and his voice...

New Husker Cinema beyond Alexander Payne: The Secret Nebraska Connection Behind Slamdance’s 20 Years
As the Slamdance Film Festival celebrates its 20th year in Utah, it’s worth noting the festival’s unique connection to a state one time zone to the east: Nebraska. Founded largely by two teams of filmmakers who’d shot their first movies in the Cornhusker state — paving the way for filmmakers like Oscar-nominee Alexander Payne — Slamdance has had a long history intertwined with the film movement known as “New Husker Cinema.” As a Nebraska native doing my USC thesis in late 1993, I teamed up with Omaha-based producer Dana Altman, grandson of Robert Altman, to make Omaha (the movie) — […]...

A co-founder in 1994 of the Slamdance Film Festival, Dan Mirvish is a busy director, screenwriter and producer. Labeled a “cheerful subversive” by The New York Times, and “Hollywood’s Bad Boy” by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Mirvish has made quite a name for himself in the world of Independent Film. He remains actively involved with Slamdance, frequently serving as master of ceremonies and mentor to the incoming crop of filmmakers each year. The festival has served as a launching pad for such filmmakers as Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception), Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace), Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) and Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity).
Most recently, Mirvish has directed the feature Between Us, based on the hit Off-Broadway play of the same name and starring Julia Styles, Taye Diggs, Melissa George, and David Harbour. Mirvish co-wrote the screen adaptation with original playwright Joe Hortua...

Julia Stiles, Taye Diggs, Melissa George, David Harbour In Off-Broadway Play ‘Between Us’ Adaptation
As you see in the title of this report, we’re here to have a little chat about the upcoming big screen adaptation of Between Us, an off-Broadway play that will be directed by Dan Mirvish.
We just learned that Julia Stiles, Taye Diggs, Melissa George and David Harbour are all attached to star in this project, and we must admit that it already sounds interesting.
At this moment, thanks to Deadline, we know that the movie will tell us a story about two couples who were friends in school and whose periodic meetings conjure up rivalries and bitterness over unrealized ambitions that get waylaid by money and children.
By the way, let us also mention that the play opened originally at Manhattan Theatre Club in 2004.
As we said, Between Us is an adaptation of an off-Broadway play by Joe Hortua who will also co-write the film script together with Mirvish.

Martin Landau, Ellen Burstyn, Elizabeth Banks and Adam Scott are starring in Lovely Still, the feature directorial debut of newcomer Nik Fackler.
The script, written by Fackler, is a holiday fable that tells the story of an elderly grocery store bagger (Landau) who discovers love for the first time. Burstyn is the woman he falls for, while Banks plays her daughter. Scott is the store owner.
The film is being produced by Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy of New York-based Parts and Labor and Dana Altman of Omaha, Neb.-based Northsea Films.
Fackler began making short films and music videos for Omaha's burgeoning music scene after graduating high school. He wrote the Lovely script with Landau in mind. After securing a meeting with Landau, Fackler spent hours convincing the Oscar winner that he had the goods to helm a feature. Landau committed and showed the script to Burstyn, who also wanted to meet Fackler. The pieces fell into place quickly after that.
