Jason Priestley has been able to embrace his love of hockey through his recent projects including Börje: The Journey of a Legend. The six-episode biopic series on Viaplay centers on the late Hall of Famer Börje Salming (Valter Skarsgård) and his fish-out-of-water journey. He went from small-town Sweden to playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs with the show chronicling the physical and personal struggles he faced. If you’re mourning the loss of Winning Time and captivated by the drama of the Stanley Cup, then this show is for you. Priestley took on the role of respected talent scout Gerry McNamara, who brought Salming over and put the gears in motion for what was to come. The 54-year-old Canadian also directed a documentary called Offside: The Harold Ballard Story on the polarizing team owner Harold Ballard, who in Börje is played by A.C. Peterson. Here Priestley talks about playing McNamara,...

In a TV sports world filled with athletes, Swedish director Amir Chamdin sees Borje Salming — the late Hall of Fame defenseman who paved the way for Europeans into the National Hockey League when he joined the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1973 — as the perfect role model worthy of a pedestal for his humility and devotion to family.
“I saw this tough guy. In fact, he’s the most humble guy I ever met. He’s a sweetheart … he’s a king in how he treated people,” Chamdin tells The Hollywood Reporter of first meeting Salming in a Stockholm café to discuss making Borje: The Journey of a Legend, a six-part drama for Scandinavian streamer Viaplay that will bow May 2 in the U.S. after premieres in Sweden and Canada.

Just when he thought he was out, they pulled him back in.
Emmy-winning writer Terence Winter is returning to Tulsa King.
The Sopranos veteran is back on board the Paramount+ drama after being the showrunner of its 2022 debut season. The series follows a former mobster, played by Sylvester Stallone, who forms a new crime empire in Oklahoma.
Winter and Tulsa King‘s creator and executive producer Taylor Sheridan famously conflicted about the creative direction of the series. After Winter stepped away, the big question became who was going to take over his gig, given Sheridan’s self-professed preference for remaining hands-on with his shows. Stallone, likewise, has firm opinions about the writing in his projects — having written and co-written the screenplays for many of his hit films over the years — and claims some of the show’s dialogue was his own creation.

CBS has had a lot of luck with its Yellowstone rollout, even though the series has been on for years and is available in full on Peacock.
It’s no wonder they’re looking to Taylor Sheridan and Sylvester to bolster their summer programming with a broadcast rollout of Tulsa King.
Tulsa King gives Yellowstone a run for the money when it comes to content the profanity. As we know, Federal law prohibits obscene, indecent, and profane content from being broadcast on the radio or TV.
Will that stop people from tuning into the broadcast version of Tulsa King on CBS?
Doubtful. And why would it? What you don’t know, you don’t know.
And there are plenty of people who prefer their dramas to be more watered down, and airing them on CBS gives many different kinds of viewers to see programming they wouldn’t otherwise.

The first season of Taylor Sheridan’s “Tulsa King” is set to make its broadcast debut this summer, airing on CBS ahead of the Paramount+ release of Season 2.
This isn’t the first time Paramount Global is bringing a Sheridan streaming series over to its broadcaster: The network has seen major success by bringing “Yellowstone” from the Paramount Network to CBS. The first episode reached 6.6 million viewers, and as Variety exclusively reported, 50% of those viewers had never seen the show before. The CBS debut also drove some wins back to streaming — though on NBCUniversal-owned Peacock, which owns the “Yellowstone” rights — where Variety reported that viewership increased by 26% over a 10-day period. But with “Tulsa King,” all viewership bumps will remain in-house for Paramount.
Per the company, “Tulsa King” is the second-most-watched series on Paramount+, following only Sheridan’s “1923.”

Following the successful run of Yellowstone on CBS, another Taylor Sheridan series is getting a lineaer window on the linear network. The popular original Paramount+ drama Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone, will make its broadcast debut on CBS this summer. The series’ first season will air on the network ahead of Season 2 launching this fall exclusively on Paramount+.
The stunt is part of the ongoing efforts by Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS, Paramount+ and Yellowstone and Tulsa King studio MTV Entertainment Studios, to expose its content to new audiences on other platforms.
Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish addressed the move on the company’s earnings call Wednesday.
“We’re going to run the first season of Tulsa on CBS prior to the 2nd season of Tulsa dropping on Paramount+, really using it as a broad marketing engine,” he said. “As you know, we did a variant of that...

As the Sylvester Stallone drama Tulsa King gets renewed for a second season at Paramount+, Deadline has learned that the series showrunner for the first season, Terence Winter, will not be continuing in his position going forward. He will remain on board as executive producer, but Winter will now focus on other projects, which will include a streaming series with Martin Scorsese, whom he often collaborates with. As well as a limited series about the 1986 New York Mets, which is revealed to have been a passion project for the writer/producer.

“Tulsa King” co-creator Terence Winter has stepped down as showrunner of the hit Paramount+ crime drama, TheWrap has confirmed. But he’ll remain credited as an executive producer on the show, starring Sylvester Stallone, and the search for a new showrunner is in progress.
Winter’s departure was due to a combination of unspecified creative differences and desire to focus on other projects, including an in-development streaming series with Martin Scorsese.
Co-created by Winter and “Yellowstone” mastermind Taylor Sheridan, “Tulsa King” follows mafia underboss Dwight Mancini (Stallone), who did 25 years in prison and loyally kept his mouth shut about his mob family. Fresh out of prison, he’s sent to Oklahoma to establish new businesses for the family, but ends up forming his own crew instead.

Tulsa King is not slowing down at Paramount+.
The streaming service officially ordered a second season of the Sylvester Stallone drama series on Wednesday.
The series launched earlier this month on both Paramount+ and Paramount Network.
Paramount+ has revealed the series helped drive Paramount+ to "highest single day starts ever."
"Tulsa King scored as the #1 new series of the year, topping all others including the Game of Thrones sequel House of the Dragon, with its preview on Paramount Network, and on Paramount+, it shattered records, driving us to our biggest new sign-up day in history – which is why we instantly greenlit season two,” said Chris McCarthy, President/CEO, Paramount Media Networks & MTV Entertainment Studios.
“Tulsa King together with Mayor of Kingstown, 1883 and the upcoming 1923, undeniably confirm the success of our strategy to franchise Yellowstone and use it to supercharge streaming growth - none of which would be possible without the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.

Last night, Taylor Sheridan’s long-awaited Sylvester Stallone mob series, Tulsa King, made its debut on Paramount +. Executive produced by Terence Winter of The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, Tulsa King is a seriocomic gangster tale about a newly released cap, Dwight “The General” Manfredi, who’s exiled by the mob to Tulsa, where he’s expected to start a new mob. At seventy-five, Dwight is totally out of his element, and the show is a surprisingly big-hearted and funny showcase for its star, Sylvester Stallone.

‘Tulsa King’ Review: Sylvester Stallone in Taylor Sheridan’s Flimsy Fish-Out-of-Water Mobster Series
Click here to read the full article.
The oft-repeated narrative around Taylor Sheridan and Terence Winter’s new Paramount+ gangster dramedy Tulsa King is that the pilot script for the Sylvester Stallone vehicle was written in a day. Suck it, building-of-Rome.
Next time, maybe take two?
Don’t get me wrong. I know such creative tales are apocryphal, but just because something is a tall tale doesn’t mean it doesn’t contain elements of truth. And based on the first two episodes of Tulsa King, there’s no question that it is a path-of-least-resistance piece of television. On almost every level, it hits the most obvious of genre beats, resorts to the most obvious of punchlines. If there are absolutely hints of a potentially likable series here, anchored by a nicely self-effacing performance from Stallone, most of what’s currently on display is reminiscent of either a middlebrow TNT...

Fifteen years after “The Sopranos” concluded its run on HBO, a new gangster series has arrived on the scene. It’s called “Tulsa King.”
Helmed by “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan, the new series marks Sylvester Stallone’s first foray into the world of television.
“It’s very hard to find something original,” Stallone said on Wednesday night at the “Tusla King” New York premiere. “And when it comes knocking on your door, you have to be a fool to say no.”
How will “Tulsa King” stand apart from other gangster series? For one, it’s a Western that takes place outside the big city. Stallone’s character, antiquated mafia capo Dwight Manfredi, is tasked with establishing a criminal organization in Tulsa, Okla. after serving a 25-year prison sentence.
“The idea of taking him out of New York, so he’s not like a Tony Soprano, he’s completely in an alien world,...

We have some good news if you've been dying for more Yellowstone since Yellowstone Season 4 concluded.
The hit Paramount drama will preview Yellowstone Season 5's first two hours in AMC Theaters on Saturday, October 29.
That means you can watch the premiere a little over two weeks before its Sunday, November 13 premiere on Paramount Network.
It's a great tactic to get some early buzz in the hopper for this hit drama series, but then again, if it continues to grow exponentially, it will continue to be the biggest series on TV.
It was recently reported that the Yellowstone Season 5 trailer premiere broke records.
The special event in AMC theaters also includes a first look the Taylor Sheridan's Tulsa King, which is set to premiere linearly the same night as Yellowstone.
Yellowstone chronicles the Dutton family, led by John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States.

"You gotta know your risk." "There was no risk until you came along." Paramount has revealed an official trailer for their mafia series Tulsa King, streaming this November on Paramount+. It's created by two very talented writers: Terence Winter of HBO's "The Sopranos" & "Boardwalk Empire", plus Taylor Sheridan of "Yellowstone", "1883", and great movies like Sicario and Hell or High Water. It also stars Andrea Savage, Martin Starr, Max Casella, Domenick Lombardozzi, Vincent Piazza, Jay Will, A.C. Peterson, plus Garrett Hedlund. This trailer makes this series seem so cheesy,...

Here’s a sentence you probably didn’t have on your streaming wars bingo card a few years ago: Sylvester Stallone is heading to Tulsa.
The “Rocky” star is taking on his first major television role in “Tulsa King,” a new Paramount+ series from creator Taylor Sheridan. The mafia drama stars Stallone as a longtime gangster who finds himself forced to relocate to Oklahoma to establish a new racketeering and gambling operation for his former family (as if Lincoln Riley didn’t leave the state with enough problems to deal with). Once he gets there, he finds himself making a big splash in the otherwise-sleepy criminal underbelly of the Sooner State’s second largest city as only Sylvester Stallone can.

The crime drama stars Stallone as New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi, who fresh off a 25-year prison sentence finds himself heading midwest on his boss’ orders. To set up his new criminal enterprise, Dwight taps a ring of locals to join his crew – and where he goes, violence and chaos inevitably follow.
The clip opens with Dwight’s homecoming, where he doesn’t receive the warm welcome he was expecting. As a thank-you for keeping his mouth shut for a quarter-century, his boss sends him to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Dwight is clearly a fish out of water. By means of violence, intimidation and cold hard cash, he gets busy assembling his team.

Paramount+ has dropped a fresh trailer for Tulsa King, its upcoming mob drama starring Sylvester Stallone. The trailer debuted on-air Sunday during the Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs game on CBS.
The drama from Taylor Sheridan follows New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Stallone) just after he is released from prison to set up shop in Tulsa, Okla. Realizing that his mob family may not have his best interests in mind, Dwight slowly builds a “crew” from a group of unlikely characters, helping establish a new criminal empire in a place that to him might as well be another planet.
The series also stars Andrea Savage, Martin Starr, Jay Will, Max Casella, Domenick Lombardozzi, Vincent Piazza, A.C. Peterson, Garrett Hedlund and Dana Delany.
The series is executive produced by Sheridan, Terence Winter, Stallone, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Allen Coulter and Braden Aftergood.

He’s a well-read man who enjoys the classics. He hangs “with fellas who run a weed store.” In other words, Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight “The General” Manfredi from Paramount+’s upcoming Tulsa King is a “different animal from what you would normally see in a gangster film.”
“I play a very different interpretation [of a mobster],” Stallone told reporters Wednesday during Tulsa King‘s TCA panel. “I grew up around some of these mugs in Philadelphia. I was always bumping shoulders with them in south Philly so I understand street life well. But this is not a stereotypical gangster show. My gang is made up cowboys, Indians … a group of complete misfits in a sense.”

Taylor Sheridan is bringing yet another show to Paramount+, and this one features Sylvester Stallone in his first scripted television role. While we've already gotten a teaser trailer of Stallone looking properly flummoxed about being sent to Tulsa after serving 25 years in jail for the mob, we haven't gotten much more than that.
All that changed during Paramount+'s Television Critics Association (TCA) presentation today, where Stallone along with executive producers Terence Winter, David C. Glasser, and cast members Andrea Savage ("I'm Sorry"), Martin Starr ("Silicon Valley"), Jay Will ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"), and Garrett Hedlund ("The United States vs. Billie Holiday") talked up the new show.
During the presentation, the cast and creative team talked about "Tulsa King."
We also saw a sequence from the first episode, which has Stallone heading to Tulsa for the first time, and very quickly getting into an argument with his cab driver (Will...

Creator Taylor Sheridan had been intrigued by the idea of a show like Paramount+’s “Tulsa King,” which features Brooklyn-bred mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) being unceremoniously transplanted in Oklahoma. The “Yellowstone” creator, who also serves as executive producer, broke down the genesis of the series in a new making-of featurette.
“A gangster from New York to Middle America to establish the mob’s influence in the area — what an absurd comedy of errors that would be,” he said in the clip.
That’s when he brought on Terence Winter as showrunner and EP, who he believed would have a “keen understanding of this world and would appreciate a real fresh look at it” having served as a producer on “The Sopranos,” arguably the most well-known depiction of New York mobsters.

Sylvester Stallone is a mafia capo who has just been released from prison after 25 years in the new Paramount+ series "Tulsa King." The series, which marks Stallone's first time working in scripted TV, comes to us from — let me give you a sec to think about this — Taylor Sheridan. It's very likely that you already guessed. Sheridan must have stock in a coffee bean farm or energy drink factory because he obviously doesn't sleep. His shows on the streaming service include "Yellowstone," "Mayor of Kingstown," the recently completed "1883," and the upcoming "1923," "Lioness," "6666," "The Land Man," and "1883: The Bass Reeves Story."
"Tulsa King" has Stallone's character relocated from his New York roots to Tulsa, Oklahoma, after his prison release. Though he doesn't seem happy about the new assignment, he will not let that stand in the way of success.
