When Meghan Markle joined the royal family, her integration came with a vision of residence that would challenge royal protocol. Her solitary request, in the wake of matrimonial bliss with Prince Harry, was met with discretion and deemed unfit by Queen Elizabeth II.
The notion of royal accommodation carries with it centuries of tradition and unspoken rules. As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex navigated their new life, their aspirations for a home within the historic Windsor Castle clashed with the expectations of royal residence etiquette.

Duchess Catherine's first year as a royal has been faultless, according to Queen Elizabeth's cousin. The 30-year-old brunette beauty has thrown herself into public life since she married the queen's grandson Prince William on April 29 2011 and Catherine has impressed Lady Elizabeth Anson with her grace and sense of fun. She told the Radio Times magazine: 'At the moment it is absolutely brilliant. She shouldn't change a thing because she is refreshing, she's beautiful, she's never put on a piece of clothing that didn't suit her and yet she still laughs and looks happy and likes to chat.' However, Lady Elizabeth admitted she was nervous for Catherine - previously Kate Middleton - before the wedding, especially because...

We may never know. Apparently Queen Elizabeth II has stepped in and barred the sale of personal notes written by the late Queen Mother. The letters were part of a lot offered by Lady Elizabeth Anson, a rather enterprising niece of the Queen Mother who had plans to sell the intimate notes along with royal memorabilia at an auction in Paris last month. No doubt Lady Elizabeth is a bit annoyed that the letters were not included in her auction; after all, just last year a hand-written memo in which the Queen Mother requested her aide pack gin and Dubonnet for a picnic fetched more than $26,000 on the block.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth stepped in to stop the sale of intimate notes which were written by the Queen Mother, after her cousin attempted to cash in with an auction of royal memorabilia last week. The queen's first cousin, Lady Elizabeth Anson, had been hoping to sell the highly personal items at an auction in Paris, but the letters have now been withdrawn on orders from Buckingham Palace. Auctioneers Coutau Begarie would not disclose the amount expected to be raised by the sale but a source told the Daily Express newspaper: "It amounted to thousands of pounds. Instead, they were removed at the 11th hour, causing the auctioneers a great deal of embarrassment and leaving many potential buyers unhappy. "The items...
