Despite being one of the most recognizable animated sitcoms on TV, Patrick Warburton revealed that his parents have always absolutely hated “Family Guy” — so much so, that his mother once tried to cancel the show entirely.
“They hate it even more today than they did 25 years ago,” Warburton said in front of a crowd at PaleyFest on Friday.
The panel — which also included creator Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Mila Kunis, Arif Zahir, Jennifer Tilly and showrunners Rich Appel and Alec Sulkin — was discussing their favorite moments from the show’s 22 seasons on Fox. That’s when Warburton admitted that his family’s spiritual values don’t quite align with the content featured in the adult cartoon.
“You come from a fairly religious family. Are they all huge ‘Family Guy’ fans?” Appel asked initially, which led Warburton to recall his childhood growing up in a devout Christian household.

“Family Guy” creator and executive producer Seth MacFarlane shared insight at PaleyFest on whether or not the Griffin family will ever make it to the big screen in a full-length feature film. The show’s cast also brought the house down Friday with a live table read of upcoming episode “The Edible Arrangement” and nine performances of musical classics from the series as the show celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Without giving too much of the goodness away, the episode the cast did a table read for — written by Travis Bowe — is titled “The Edible Arrangement.” It’s centered on Lois and Stewie bonding after consuming a few of Brian’s weed-infused gummies. The episode features the first time Lois has ever heard Stewie talk, which provides Stewie with the perfect opportunity to tell her all about his old plot to murder her.

"Familly Guy" is more than a show at this point. 25 years into its long run on television, it's a straight-up, locked-in part of the larger pop culture fabric. It's similar to "The Simpsons" in that way. But as the show is in the midst of its 22nd season, with a 23rd on the way, are we getting close to wrapping it up with the Griffin family? Creator Seth MacFarlane certainly doesn't seem to think there is any good reason to end it any time soon.
The Los Angeles Times recently caught up with MacFarlane, as well as the showrunners and members of the cast, to celebrate 25 years of "Family Guy." MacFarlane, who voices a number of characters on the show including Peter, Stewie, and Quagmire, among others, was asked whether he believes the show could run for another 25 years. Oh, God. The enfant terrible of animated comedies is delivering unto us a Season 22 finale of biblical proportions. Because after Family Guy’s near-quarter of a century on the air, nothing is sacred! “I never thought I’d hear myself say this as a writer,” confesses Richard Appel, a showrunner alongside Alec Sulkin, “but the Standards and Practices department at Fox is easy to work with and pretty good with us.” Due in part to the sheer success of the cartoon, as well as its consistent ability to push the envelope without inspiring boycotts (anymore), Guy has gotten away with decades of gags other shows wouldn’t dare to attempt—like tonight’s trip back to the days of Jesus. A travesty, you say? Even the respected drama The Chosen has a sense of humor—witness its Jesus (Jonathan Roumie) cracking jokes! The episode kicks off with Brian the dog...

In March 2019, Disney completed their purchase of Fox, effectively enacting one of the largest studio mergers in Hollywood history. This came after Disney had already made a major purchase from Marvel Comics a decade earlier, as well as the buyout of Lucasfilm in 2012. As of this writing, Disney sits on top of what might be the largest film library in Hollywood. Disney has used their massive library to milk as much IP as possible, returning to old franchises that have been successful in the past. Frustratingly, they haven't opened up their massive archive to the public via one of their streaming services; much of the old Fox catalog remains under lock and key.
Through the Fox purchase, Disney inherited many TV shows and feature films that don't quite fit in with their populist, family-friendly brand. Disney owns the "Alien" movies, for instance, as well as "Die Hard." It's mind-boggling to think that Dr.

American Dad directors and creatives stepped in for voiceover cast and key creatives today on San Diego Comic-Con to tease the upcoming season on TBS. The session kicked off with Innerspace parodied episode airing on Sept. 4, in which Francine, Stan’s wife, shrinks down into a small spaceship and takes a ride through Stan’s body; a battle with spiders ensues.
Asked about the Christmas episode this year, director Brent Woods said that Santa is making an appearance as Stan’s family is “transported into a different place, we have fun with them looking like CGI animation.”
One fan asked if B12, the boy band which was assembled by Snot’s uncle. That’s still Tbd.
Another fan raised the question to the panel today in Ballroom 20 as to how the show deals with the network’s standards and practices.

The WGA Writers Strike has officially begun and the picket lines have formed across Hollywood and New York City. This halt means that many scripted projects will inevitably go dark, resulting in a Hollywood shutdown not seen since Covid, and not felt since the last WGA strike took place 15 years ago. Variety will keep readers updated with a rolling list of everything that has been put on hold as a result of the strike, which went into effect Tuesday. For more information about the strike, check out Variety’s Faq primer on what it means for the industry.
Update: “Family Guy” and “American Dad” updates added.
Late-night Shows Go Dark. ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” CBS’ “The Late Show,” and NBC’s “Tonight” and “Late Night” are all going on hiatus and repeats will be shown. HBO will also cease live production of “Real Time with Bill Maher” and “Last Week Tonight” with John Oliver.

Fox's Sunday night animation lineup is about to collide, if only for a moment. In a clip from this week's episode of "Family Guy," which was just released by Entertainment Weekly, Peter Griffin (Seth MacFarlane) ends up at Bob's Burgers restaurant, where he pulls up a stool alongside Homer Simpson. It's less a major crossover moment than a quick gag, but "Bob's Burgers" star H. John Benjamin does make a voiceover guest appearance as the chef we know and love from the ever-underrated wharf restaurant.
The scene, which you can watch now below or on the Animation Domination YouTube channel, starts with Peter Griffin instantly trying to find a way to extricate himself from the situation when his wife, Lois (Alex Borstein) starts describing a dream she had the night before. "Eh-heh," he says while backing away, first out of the house and then down the street before eventually backing...

Family Guy was sitting on a great story idea — Stewie (voiced by series creator Seth MacFarlane) gets canceled after the diabolical baby genius tweets something negative about a pop star — for a while. When the show’s 400th program started to come up, executive producers and co-showrunners Rich Appel and Alex Sulkin decided to use that particular plot for the animated series’ historic episode. The show has addressed this particular topic before – family dog Brian (also voiced by MacFarlane) had to move out of the Griffin house after he was canceled for an insensitive tweet about why he preferred to see the Baywatch movie over the Kevin Hart flick Ride Along 3– but this time, it’s Stewie who’s facing the wrath of the Internet. While MacFarlane stepped away from the Family Guy writers’ room quite a while ago, Appel and Sulkin say that his creative voice is still an integral part of the show.

As “Family Guy” heads into its 21st season on Sunday, executive producers and showrunners Alec Sulkin and Rich Appel shared details behind the series’ upcoming 400th episode. “Family Guy” continues to bring a satirical eye to its scenarios, and in the anniversary episode, the show will take a deep dive into social media’s obsessive fan — a.k.a. “stan” — culture.
Episode 400, which is expected to arrive in November, follows Stewie (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) as he becomes a crazed fan of a famous pop star. That obsession takes him to some hilariously wild lengths. It was MacFarlane, who knows a thing or two about having outspoken fans, who first pitched the idea to producers.

“Family Guy” wraps its 20-year anniversary season Sunday by paying homage to its famous mayor, Adam West, while simultaneously giving James Woods the shinola.
In the episode that airs tonight, Brian suggests changing the name of the town’s James Woods Regional High School to Adam West High, not only to honor Quahog’s mayor but also because, Brian says, Woods has become “a political troll and a maniac on Twitter.”
The idea is met with enthusiasm, with Peter making a special video “dedication reminding people of how great Mayor West was,” set to Richard Marx’s singing “Right Here Waiting.”

The Disney-Fox merger is one of the biggest industry stories of the year, and it turns out “The Simpsons” saw it coming 19 years ago. The show has always managed to predict the future, be it Trump’s presidency or the FIFA corruption scandal, and it appears Matt Groening and company somehow knew their series would one day be owned by Disney.

“Family Guy” has tapped Bryan Cranston and Niecy Nash to play Peter Griffin’s new boss, filling the void left by the death of Carrie Fisher.
Fisher, who died in December, had occasionally voiced Peter’s boss, Angela, on the show since 2005. Cranston and Nash will play a husband and wife duo on the show.
The casting was announced by executive producer Rich Appel during “Family Guy’s” San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday. The always raucous panel started off on a somber note, as creator Seth MacFarlane and the show’s cast and producers offered their memories of Fisher and Adam West, who played the mayor of Quahog.
MacFarlane remembered West as someone who “had boundless energy and instantly put everyone in a good mood… The man gave 150 percent right up to the end,...

Sean Penn will be doing his first TV guest spot since 2004 this fall, thanks to “Family Guy.” Entertainment Weekly reports that the Oscar winner will appear on the episode titled “Hot Shots,” which will be taking a few kicks at the anti-vaccination movement.
Penn will play himself in the animated comedy. The plot includes Peter and Lois deciding not to vaccinate Stewie, much to Brian’s displeasure. Though, when a pandemic breaks out in Quahog, the actor must persuade the Griffins that it would be a huge mistake to listen to the anti-vaccination propaganda. Penn’s son, Hopper, is also contributing to the episode as a charismatic cult leader.

Don’t expect to see any more “Star Wars” parodies from Fox’s animated hit “Family Guy.”
The show produced three “Star Wars” homages (2007’s “Blue Harvest,” 2009’s “Something, Something, Something Dark Side” and 2010’s “It’s a Trap!”) several years ago. But that was back before Disney acquired Lucasfilm and jumpstarted the franchise.
“The new regime is a little more difficult to deal with,” executive producer Alec Sulkin said. “Before we were just dealing with Lucasfilm. Seth [MacFarlane] had a good relationship with them. It’s not that Seth has a bad relationship with Disney, but they’re a bit more rigid.”
Executive producer Rich Appel said it was understandable, as “they’re a little more careful now that they’re rolling out new movies.”

"The Simpsons Guy," the highly anticipated crossover episode between animated staples The Simpsons and Family Guy, hit airwaves on Sunday night. The hour-long Family Guy premiere found the Griffin crew stranded in Springfield after their car is stolen; Homer bumps into the family at the Kwik E Mart and offers to let them stay at the Simpson home. Chaos, naturally, ensues: Peter and Homer employ a number of insane tactics to track down the missing vehicle, holding a "Stolen Car Wash" and guzzling gasoline in order to "think like a car.

The first thing to remember when you watch the Simpsons/Family Guy crossover is that it is an episode of Family Guy. This is when you groan, because Family Guy is an unoriginal rip-off of The Simpsons that retells tired old gags with an ironic approach. Or maybe you cheer, because you're over The Simpsons: It hasn't even been good in 13 years. Those aren't my opinions. Those are the implicit opinions of the Simpsons/Family Guy crossover–or at least, those explicit self-mocking assertions are how "The Simpsons Guy" portrays every possible critique you could have about the two shows.

The Simpsons and Family Guy, cartoons that both air on Fox, will have a crossover episode that will air later this month.
'Simpsons' & 'Family Guy' Crossover
Family Guy producer Richard Appel, who previously wrote for The Simpsons, got the go-ahead from The Simpsons producers to create an episode of Seth MacFarlane's hit animated series in the world of the 25-year-veteran. The episode, which will feature the cast of characters from both series in Springfield, came together rather seamlessly once the Simpsons producers realized what Appel was trying to do.

"Family Guy" hit Ballroom 20 on Saturday (July 26) for its annual Comic-Con panel, an event with kinda tends to ebb and flow in hype based on whether or not Seth MacFarlane is there to mock question-askers. This was a second consecutive Seth MacFarlane-free year. Last year he was working on "A Million Ways To Die In The West." This year, his absence was unexplained [on the "Family Guy" panel, but it came up at "American Dad" subsequently] and raises the possibility that Seth MacFarlane has just become too big for making fun of questioners at Comic-Con. Fortunately, in lieu of Seth MacFarlane, the "Family Guy" team arrived with a longer clip reel for the season's hour-long "The Simpsons Guy" crossover event, which will air on September 28. At TCA press tour last week we got a very brief sizzle reel that included jokes about the Springfield location ("I can't imagine we're allowed to...

But a fast friendship christened with delicious doughnuts may be forever destroyed by an argument over Pawtucket Patriot Ale and Duff Beer, which leads to an epic chicken fight.
