Liverpool have yet to make a fresh approach to sign Tom Ince, Blackpool manager Michael Appleton has insisted.
The 20-year-old winger who started out his career as a Liverpool youth academy player in 2008 for the club his famous England international father Paul Ince played for in the 90s, left Anfield in the summer of 2011 in pursuit of first team football. In the eighteen months since he has shone at Bloomfield Road, scoring 13 goals for the seaside town in the Championship this season and being called up by Stuart Pearce for the England U21′s European Qualifying games.
His impressive form has caught the eye of the Liverpool board who are perhaps regretting letting him go and the club held talks with Blackpool over re-signing Ince, though at the time it was said the Reds’ offer was below Blackpool’s valuation. There had been speculation that Liverpool were determined to get...

Stricken League 1 outfit Portsmouth face the very real possibility of liquidation after potential owner Balram Chainrai withdrew his offer to purchase the club.
The club have been in administration since February after parent company Convers Sports Initiatives folded in November, leaving the club saddled with £58million worth of debts.
As a result, Pompey were docked 10 points by the Fa, which effectively doomed them to relegation from the Championship last season.
They will also begin life in League 1 with another 10 point deduction this season – one of the conditions of the Football League accepting the clubs membership.
Chainrai’s company Portpin have been vying for control of the club for several months, but the former owner, who twice oversaw the club enter administration, has finally admitted defeat. In a statement released to Sky Sports, he remarked:
“Portpin Ltd regrets to announce that it is withdrawing its bid for Portsmouth Football Club.

Presenter of the BBC's Late Night Line-Up and Film Night, he was a wildly enthusiastic historian of the cinema
The broadcaster, journalist and film collector Philip Jenkinson, who has died aged 76, was for a few years one of the most popular and familiar faces on British television. His ubiquity was such that the Monty Python team saw fit to satirise him as a machine-gunned victim in a spoof on Sam Peckinpah's movies. He was also enrolled into that hall of fame accorded to guests of the Morecambe and Wise show. In a 1977 Christmas special, he and a gaggle of co-presenters, all dressed in sailor suits, performed There Is Nothing Like a Dame.
Such celebrity might not have come his way had he not been noticed, in 1967, by the BBC producer Mike Appleton, who attended a film lecture given by Jenkinson at St Martin's School of Art, in London.

After Bolton’s 5-0 redemption victory against Stoke before the international break, confidence may be brewing for the Trotters however West Brom would’ve been glad to see the break approach after suffering two defeats on the bounce before today’s fixture.
The Baggies have had a very mixed bag of results this season. They’ve not had a chance to really get going to gain a good string of results as of yet, with their best run coming in the two Midlands derbies with victories over Aston Villa and Wolves before once again returning to losing ways against Hodgson’s former team Liverpool and an in-form Arsenal.
This fixture is also the first which West Brom will encounter without their assistant coach Michael Appleton, who left to take the managers post at Portsmouth. Hodgson seems fairly blasé about losing part of his backroom staff though, claiming he’s in...
