"Why aren't you more famous?" It's one question independent singer-songwriter and actor Alexz Johnson gets too often. "[That question is] very sweet, and it's obviously coming from a really beautiful place, but what's behind that is, 'You should be more of a success,'" the 36-year-old mother of two tells Popsugar. From 2010 until now, Johnson has released five studio albums independently. Her latest, "Seasons," came out on April 7.
For an artist with a résumé as impressive as Johnson's, it's somewhat natural to wonder why her powerhouse voice isn't dominating the airwaves. But Johnson is right where she wants to be as an artist, and she's aiming to redefine what success looks like with her new album.
"When I started the process of doing 'Seasons,' I was pregnant with my son and it was Covid still . . . I was like, 'You know what? I'm going to do a record from home.

Director Stu Stone and producing partner Adam Rodness want you to know that their indie film comedy Vandits — about small-time crooks looking to rob a senior citizens’ bingo hall of its 25,000 jackpot on Christmas Eve — having 250,000 worth of camera and lighting equipment stolen on their first day of shooting was no publicity stunt.
“There’s an empty parking space. Where’s the truck? Really, where’s the truck?” Stone recalls asking ashen-faced production crew members in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in October 2021 as he stared at where a truck and trailer with all of his film gear inside had been parked the night before.
It might have looked like a stunt as the Toronto-based filmmakers’ last movie had been Faking a Murderer, a 2020 docu-comedy where Stone and Rodness, in search of their next hit, investigate a seedy man they believed to be a serial killer but never was.

Restoring rightful balance to the universe, Netflix has returned Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait” theme song to Dawson’s Creek.
All six seasons of Dawson’s Creek are now available on the streamer with the original theme song.
“I Don’t Want to Wait” has not been featured on streaming and DVD versions of the TV series for many years because Sony only purchased the on-air rights to the track. But now a deal has been struck with Cole that allows use of the song across all streaming platforms. The restored version was re-recorded and re-mastered by Cole to get it back in circulation.
Dawson’s Creek ran from 1998-2003 on the WB, starring James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams. Netflix picked it up in November 2020, swapping out “Run Like Mad” by Jann Arden for the original credits intro. Fan outrage ensued, but today...

It’s a bad day for everyone who only discovered “Dawson’s Creek” in recent years and had gotten married to the idea that Jann Arden’s “Run Like Mad” was the theme song for the 1998-2003 teen television series. For all of the show’s other fans, apart from that tiny, tiny sliver, it’s a good day, as Paula Cole has been restored to the opening credits and the world set aright.
Announced Netflix in a Friday morning tweet (speaking in the first person as a company): “Dawson’s Creek fans, I’m thrilled to announce that — at long last — you will hear Paula Cole’s iconic song ‘I Don’t Want to Wait’ when you watch the opening credits!”
But it’s not the original recording of the song, although the expectation is that no one will notice the difference. The artist herself weighed in Friday afternoon, explaining...

Netflix is taking us back to Capeside! On Oct. 19, the streamer announced that The WB's classic coming-of-age drama Dawson's Creek would be making its onsite debut on Nov. 1. That's right, the drama that gave us *thee* James Van Der Beek crying meme will be at the fingertips of every Netflix subscriber starting next month!
It's been over 20 years since Van Der Beek (Dawson Leery), Katie Holmes (Joey Potter), Joshua Jackson (Pacey Witter), and Michelle Williams (Jen Lindley) first graced the TV screen together, but fans will forever treasure the torrid romances, musical moments, heartbreak, and "Creek-speak" that the series gave us for six seasons. There's only one catch here, and, as Netflix made sure to mention before anyone could call it out come Nov. 1, the episodes will not feature the series's iconic theme song "I Don't Want to Wait" by Paula Cole. Instead, it'll probably open with...

Canadian singer-songwriter and actor Jann Arden is coming to Hulu.
Hit comedy “Jann,” created by series star Arden with Leah Gauthier and Jennica Harper, and executive produced by Andrew Barnsley (“Schitt’s Creek”) will debut both its seasons on the streamer in early 2021.
In “Jann,” Arden plays a fictionalized, self-deprecating version of herself: a singer-songwriter of a “certain age” in severe denial of the harsh reality that her former music career is slowly fading away. With her personal life also in shambles, the series — which airs on Canadian broadcaster CTV — takes a comic look at her attempts to stage a personal and professional comeback.
The series is a CTV, Project 10 Productions and SEVEN24 Films production, consisting of six episodes in its first season and eight in its second. Hulu has exclusive U.S. rights. “Jann” was nominated for several awards at the Canadian Screen Awards, and Arden and Harper won...

Beloved ‘90s teen drama Dawson’s Creek is coming to Netflix in November and all is right with the world. Except for…well, this one thing. Netflix announced Dawson’s Creek’s arrival via its Twitter account and tried to get ahead of some bad news.

Yes, unfortunately none of the 128 episodes of Dawson’s Creek coming to Netflix will be accompanied by the show’s absolutely iconic theme song: Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Wanna Wait.” To the properly ‘90sified brain, even the mention of the words “Dawson’s” and/or “Creek” will trigger the opening bars of that song as a Pavlovian response. “I don’t wanna wait. For our liiiiivesss to be ova!

“Dawson’s Creek” is set to stream on Netflix next month, and long-suffering fans will not be surprised to hear that the streaming version show will continue to exist without Paula Cole’s iconic theme song.
Cole’s”I Don’t Want to Wait” was the instantly memorable theme song across all six seasons of the WB teen drama, but the song was replaced for the home video and streaming release due to rights issues, much to the chagrin of fans who grew up watching the show’s original run.
Instead, newcomers to the series in the streaming era have been greeted by Canadian musician Jann Arden’s “Run Like Mad.” (The song was actually recorded as the original theme song for the show and was used as such in international markets where Sony didn’t have the rights to “I Don’t Want to Wait.”)

Do you know what time it is? It’s time to feel terrible. Why? Because I can’t believe I even dared to critique past guest-judges Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Christina Applegate for their cloying or uninformed commentary when this week’s guest judge, teensy pop phenom Carly Rae Jepsen, swept in on a cloud of bangs and ignorance and offered precisely zero insight to the remaining 16 competing dancers. I’m not saying Carly Rae Jepsen should be an erudite dance critic, but I am suggesting she could at least pretend there’s a good reason she’s sitting alongside real judges. Because to my knowledge, Crj is not a dancer or a “dance enthusiast” (like Minnie Driver during the audition rounds). She is apparently just a dance tolerator, which would explain why she was satisfied dropping soundbites like ”That was really great” or “That was great.” Does this take...

Birthday shoutouts go to Nathan Fillion (above), who is 42, Dave Koz is 50, Fergie is 38, Mariah Carey is 43, and Jann Arden is 51. The Canadian songstress will always hold a place in my heart for giving us one the greatest singles of the pop wasteland of the 90's.

Tonight's episode featured some shocking eliminations and one group is in for another name change! Find out what went down in the results show! It seems they were still trying to work out the kinks on the Nov. 1 episode of The X Factor, as eight contestants sang for their lives and four were sent packing. Khloé Kardashian's nips were tightly tucked in tonight as the judge's made (some stupid) decisions to narrow down the final 12. The Young Adults: Paige Thomas wore a ridiculously large hat that apparently hid her horrible performance from last night, because Demi Lovato granted her a spot in the Top 12, alongside the very deserving Jennel Garcia. CeCe Frey sang for her survival with "Out Here On My Own" from the musical Fame. It was — for lack of a better word — pitchy, but still a big improvement. "You just saved yourself." L.A. Reid told her, confidently.

Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go!
Okay, perhaps reciting the lyrics to the theme song of The Teenage Mutant Teenage Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze isn't exactly the best way to make a first impression, especially when karaokers would probably boo the horrible rendition, but it seemed somewhat appropriate in the presence of Rob Van Winkle.
Better known to the masses as Vanilla Ice, the rapper exploded on to the music scene thanks to his infectious No. 1 single, Ice Ice Baby, and later made a cameo in 1991's Ninja Turtles sequel. Sitting in Van Winkle's dressing room for the reality show Canada Sings, the topic of director Michael Bay rebooting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise has immediately come front and centre, and so has Van Winkle's catchy Ninja song.
“You know that song is bigger than Ice Ice Baby right now?” laughs Van Winkle. “Well, the generation that it captured is humongous.

Birthday shoutouts go to the adorable Nathan Fillion (above), who turns 41, and out jazzman Dave Koz is 49. Hello! Hello! Hello! It's time for Xuxa , who's 49, faboo ally Pauley Perrette is 43, and Fergie is 37. Do a Fergie/Black Eyed Peas list if you must, but I'm doing Mariah Carey, who's 42 today. Here are my top five, but I'm all about vintage Mariah, when she was actually singing, and not doing that breathless-whisper thing that she does now.: 5. "Always Be My Baby" 4. "Dreamlover," 3. "Make It Happen," 2. "Vision Of Love," 1. "Can't Let Go"The big news today was the Hrc releasing the previously sealed documents from Nom's adventures in Maine, revealing that Nom is just as sleazy as everyone already knew. As always, Thomas Roberts is the first on-air anchor to expose their B.S.

'America's Got Talent" has just begun, but it's already found its first Internet sensation. Michael Grimm, a soft-spoken, 30-year-old singer from Mississippi's Gulf Coast, is shaping up as this year's "American Susan Boyle" after a soulful rendition of Jann Arden's "You Don't Know Me" that left the judges nearly speechless this week. The video of the performance was picked up by dozens of Web sites, including 100,000 hits on YouTube in less than 48 hours. But it was Grimm's personal story that set the reality competition series off to a three-hanky start.
