Varun Badola Opened Up On How He Was About To Turn Bankrupt With No Work ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Varun Badola was the heartthrob of Indian Television at a time when TV was peaking. He started his career with Banegi Apni Baat but turned into the quintessential hero, making our hearts swoon with Kis Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chaand. In fact, he was the perfect ‘daamad’ every mother wanted.
Varun was one of the highest-paid actors on Indian Television and earned almost 8 lakh a month for his highly acclaimed TV show Astitva – Ek Prem Kahaani. For a show by Aruna Irani that starred Sangeeta Ghosh, he charged a bomb!
Titled Rabba Ishq Naa Hove, Varun Badola was paid 18,000 per episode, one of the highest-paid of those times. In fact, in 2004, when he participated in Nach Baliye, he was paid a whopping 16 lakh for the show. However, things took a drastic turn when Television started to change.

She is last of the Mohicans, belonging to a golden era of music, and is the only flag bearer left perhaps in whole of the world who has seen music evolve from basic instruments, to melodies, to synthetic instruments, to club music and what not! You name any new adaptation in music, and Asha Bhonsle’s association with that genre will immediately pop up.
But whatever be the genre in which she is going to render her vocal prowess, one thing is for sure, her voice will not falter to a node. Shakti Kapoor recalls after getting slapped a number of times in a scene from the 1983 movie ‘Mawaali’, he thought his career was over in the industry. He also shares that initially he wanted to become a hero in movies.
He said: “I did my first comedy film ‘Satte Pe Satta’ with Paintal. It was a really great film so when Raj Sippy approached me for a comedy role I was like my villainous roles are being appreciated then why does he want me to be a comedian?
“After that, I did a film called ‘Mawaali’. When I was giving my first shot in the film Kader Khan slapped me and I fell on the ground, then in the second shot Aruna Irani slapped me and I fell on the ground, the third time too the same happened.

As he turns 80 on October 11, the living legend Amitabh Bachchan – Bollywood’s biggest superstar in its 110-years’ history – can look back with satisfaction at his long career on the silver screen, where he became a icon along with a galaxy of leading ladies.
It was in 1969 – when man landed on the moon – that Bachchan took his first small step with “Saat Hindustani”, which ultimately proved to be a gigantic leap for his megastar-dom.
But he stood out in his maiden film – in the crowd of six other actors jostling for screen space in the pacey thriller themed on the Goa Liberation – with the sole female revolutionary – Shahnaz Vahanvati (daughter of the comedian Agha), gunning to free the west Indian territory from Portuguese clutches.
Subsequently, Bachchan notched a record of sorts, working with six generations of new, established, senior or junior heroines ranging from Mala Sinha and Nutan...

Mumbai, Oct 7 (Ians) The portrayal of women in Hindi cinema has undergone a sea change compared to an era gone by. The digital age has rendered more substance to the female characters with even the female protagonists having grey shades but there was a time when Bollywood had stereotypical portrayal of women.
And, there have been actresses, who mastered the craft of portraying characters such as that of mother-in-laws, vamps and gangster moll with absolute finesse, so much that these actresses became synonymous with those parts.
Here are some of the actresses who have essayed the roles of mother-in-laws, vamps and gangster moll under the umbrella of negative characters, with aplomb.
The Evil Mother-in-law:
Lalita Pawar: The Og! Lalita Pawar’s portrayal of a cruel mother-in-law can not be matched upto till date even by the finest of actresses. If you remember words like ‘Kulta’, ‘Kamini’, ‘Kalmuhi’ and ‘Karamjali...

While it is known that everyone has a time, nothing prepares us for losing those who are family and those who we have come to admire. While he may have been a bigger name even before I was born the name of Rishi Kapoor was an inheritance from my parents, who they themselves grew up in cinema halls watching his films and passing those memories onto me by showing me those films in whatever the technology of the time. For me, Rishi Kapoor was not the first dancing star, but he was the first to make it important for the hero to be able to dance.

Every major actor and actress in Bollywood will at one stage attempt the double role. It is up there on every distinguished star’s curriculum vitae. There a countless examples Hum Dono (Dev Anand), Ram aur Shyam (Dilip Kumar), Seeta aur Geeta (Hema Malini), Apu Raja (Kamal Hassan), Chaalbaaz (Sri Devi), Kishan Kanhaiya (Anil Kapoor) and many many more. In addition to these we have Amitabh Bachchan’s own contributions to the double role genre, but to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema and its great tradition of double roles, we thought we would choose a slightly different film – Mahaan.
A triple role! Now that is is a completely different level and there is only one actor, the superstar of Indian cinema, who has truly attempted and achieved that – Amitabh Bachchan. Father, son and son – that was Mahaan. The father donned a beard, one son a moustache, the other clean shaven.

Pran Kishan Sikand
Pran Kishan Sikand dreamt of becoming a professional photographer. Little did he know that a measly, humble ‘paan’ (betel leaf) would change his life and set him on his destined path. It was 1939 or thereabouts. Pran was at a ‘paan’ shop at Lahore, enjoying a munch with his friends when a stranger approached him and asked whether he wanted to act in films. Pran was amused and asked his name. Stranger introduced himself as Muhammad Walli, a renowned film maker in the flourishing film district of Lahore. He said he was making a Punjabi film and Pran looked a perfect fit for the role of a villain in the film. Pran just brushed him off. Walli kept insisting that he pay a visit to the studio, and pushed a piece of paper with his address into Pran’s hands. The film was Yamla Jat (1940), a runaway hit that year.

Every Bollywood actress wants to be an item girl these days….ohh My God! But this is true. Item songs as they are popularly termed in tinsel town are song and dance sequences which may or may not have any apt link with the story but are added for publicity and news. Item girls are seen in skimpy dresses in these songs giving the audiences the much needed ‘high’ that becomes the Usp for a film. The origin of these goes back to the cabarets and the mujras that were an inevitable part of yester year’s films. Actresses like Helen, Aruna Irani, Padma and Bindu were stalwarts of this league.
