When the sumptuously filmed 1920s drama Hotel Portofino returns, the sunny skies of Italy’s Riviera mirror the mood of Bella Ainsworth (Natascha McElhone), proud owner of the upscale title hostelry. She’s promoted former nanny Constance (Louisa Binder) to assistant manager and befriended appealing architect Marco (Giorgio Marchesi), who’s building the hotel’s spa. But dark clouds hover, starting with the reappearance of Bella’s dodgy and unfaithful husband, Cecil (Mark Umbers). He’s been in London since he struck his wife in Season 1. “It’s forced her to confront a lot of things that have been bubbling below the surface and this is sort of the breakdown of their marital relationship, though it’s not easy for Bella,” says creator Matt Baker. “We’re introducing this season, the possibility of life and relationships for Bella after Cecil,” he adds, hinting at a “chaste” love interest for Bella.

Joe Lycett has ruled himself out of replacing Matt Lucas on the next series of The Great British Bake Off.
The comedian had been a popular choice among viewers of the hit Channel 4 baking series, after Lucas announced his departure earlier this week.
Some bookmakers even listed Lycett as the favourite to take up the vacant role alongside Noel Fielding.
During an interview with The News Agents podcast, however, Lycett shut down speculation that a Bake Off role could be on the cards.
“No, thank you,” he said. “I’m taking myself out the race.”
On the same podcast, Lycett addressed his sarcastic appearance on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg back in September.
According to Lycett, his mocking manner during the interview, which saw him claim to be “extremely right wing” and effusively praise Liz Truss, stemmed from his very real anger over the government’s “consistent lying” over the Partygate scandal.

Exclusive: Internal BBC documents have revealed how the British broadcaster conducts repeated research on its biggest stars and scores how well they are performing with audiences.
So-called BBC “talent reports” were released as part of the corporation’s legal battle with presenter Samira Ahmed, who has taken the BBC to an employment tribunal seeking £693,245 in lost earnings as part of an equal pay dispute.
Ahmed said “it just does not seem fair” that she was paid £440 for hosting an episode Newswatch, while at the same time, male presenter Jeremy Vine took home £3,000 for recording an installment of Points of View.
She argued that both shows, which invite viewer feedback on BBC output, involve similar work and provide audiences with a similar service. The BBC disputes this characterization, arguing that Newswatch is a news show on the “relatively niche” BBC News channel, while Points of View is a BBC One brand...

BBC One is going to be bringing whales, dolphins and seals into our living rooms with its huge new television event Big Blue Live.
The three-part series - which will be hosted by Matt Baker, Liz Bonnin, Steve Backshall and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall - will be broadcast live from Monterey Bay in California, a location home to a huge variety of wildlife.
The BBC explained that the show will follow what happens when animals such as blue whales, humpback whales, elephant seals, dolphins, sea otters and great white sharks gather off the coast of the Bay.
Many of them make tough journeys to reach it, but will there be enough food for them when they arrive?

When held up to the heady heights of its BAFTA-winning spiritual predecessor Twenty Twelve, the first series of W1A fell short on occasions.
But with a new series opener in which a high-level management power struggle starts simmering alongside the usual japes, hi-jinks and gaffes at Broadcasting House, the BBC's self-flagellating satire is at last hitting its stride.
Hugh Bonneville's still the star of the show as Ian Fletcher, keeping a sharp focus on charter renewal as his contemporaries in the Way Ahead Task Force fall over themselves (almost literally at one point) to get one over on their professional rivals. There's whispers of a new senior post at stake, and everyone seems to have their eye on it.

Golly, they left that to the last minute, didn't they? The coaches on The Voice UK have now completed their teams after the last episode of blind auditions - but for a while we weren't sure if they'd manage it, as Sir Tom and will.i.am left it to the final two acts. Talk about cutting it fine.
We don't actually know how they found time to turn for the six final acts in between all the confetti cannon hiding (will.i.am being sheepish is the best), dancing and singing to S Club's 'Reach', and general Ricky Wilson silliness (including, er, a striptease), but they did! Read on as we assess those lucky six (and the poor eight who didn't make it...)

Exclusive: The always unpredictable Dennis Rodman gets emotional explaining his relationship with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un — and the death threats he’s gotten as a result — in a new film premiering next week at the Slamdance Film Festival.
The timing couldn’t be better for director Colin Offland and writer Matt Baker, who world-premiere their documentary Dennis Rodman’s Big Bang In Pyongyang in Park City just months after Sony Pictures was cyberattacked over The Interview’s depiction of Supreme Leader Kim.
Unlike Vice’s startling chronicle of Rodman’s 2013 tour of North Korea with the Harlem Globetrotters, Dennis Rodman’s Big Bang In Pyongyang zeroes in on the former NBA star himself as he returns with a team of ex-pros to the Dprk to organize a historic U.S.-North Korea basketball game in honor of his buddy Kim’s birthday. John Cleese has to be considered a television veteran at this point, considering all of his years working on Monty Python's Flying Circus and Fawlty Towers.
So you can imagine the shock and horror of The One Show staff when Cleese let a profanity fly during a live broadcast on Tuesday (December 9).
Cleese could not resist using the phrase "little bastard" during a One Show game while discussing a troubled student from his teaching years.
After being admonished for his profanity, he joked: "Can I say, 'little illegitimate chap'?"
Watch the clip above to see Alex Jones and Matt Baker's embarrassed reactions.
The naughty language gaffe was a change for Cleese, following a recent Ofcom investigation into a lack of swearing in the televised broadcast of Monty Python's final show.

While the Sundance Film Festival is the better known film festival located in Utah that runs in January, it is not the only one, as the Slamdance Film Festival has been running in the same place during the same month for over 20 years. The unique aspect of the Slamdance Film Festival, however, is its Narrative Features and Documentary Features program, which restricts its selection to films that are directorial debuts, made for under $1 million, and don’t have Us distribution. The 2015 incarnation of the festival is set to run from January 23rd to the 29th, and ahead of the festival’s premiere next month, organisers have unveiled the lineup for the aforementioned categories. The lineup is as follows.
Narrative Features Program:
Across The Sea (Turkey/USA), making its North American Premiere
Written and Directed by Nisan Dağ and Esra Saydam
Starring Damla Sönmez, Jacob Fishel, Ahmet Rıfat Şungar, Hakan Karsak,...

The Sundance Film Festival dominates Park City in late January, but there is also the upstart Slamdance Film Festival. We’ve not really highlighted that fest or its program, but I always stay at Treasure Mountain Inn where Slamdance is headquartered and they’ve kind of grown on me. Last year they brought Christopher Nolan to speak (the fest had the good sense to program his first film) and Joe Mangianello came to vamp his male stripper docu. This year, there’s every chance of seeing Dennis Rodman, the flamboyant former rebounding machine and Bff of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, for the docu Dennis Rodman’s Big Bang In Pyongyang. So let’s all root for an international incident! Here are the films they’ll be playing from January 23-29:
Narrative Features Program
Across the Sea – Directors & Screenwriters: Nisan Dağ, Esra Saydam. (Turkey/USA) North American Premiere.

Jenna Coleman remained very coy about rumours that she's exiting Doctor Who during an appearance on This Morning today (August 22).
The actress, who plays the Doctor's companion Clara Oswald, said that she wouldn't confirm her departure because she believed that the uncertainty was benefiting the show.
"The truth is, I don't want to tell you the truth," Coleman said.
"I quite like these rumours. People don't have any idea [if I'm staying or going]. I think people can watch the show, not knowing whether I am [going] or not, and I think that's exciting."
Speaking about working with new Doctor Peter Capaldi, Coleman claimed that her new leading man had a "glimpse of naughtiness", and that the pair had been laughing continually since the third day on set.
During an appearance on The One Show on Thursday (August 21), Capaldi played down rumours about his co-star departing the sci-fi show.

Presenter Charlotte Smith will return to front Countryfile years after she was sacked when bosses reportedly said that she "wasn't young or pretty enough".
The 49-year-old will be back on screens from September, The Guardian reports.
Smith was one of four female presenters in their 40s and 50s who were dropped by the rural current affairs show five years ago as part of a revamp.
Her fellow presenter Miriam O'Reilly took the BBC to an employment tribunal and won after she was removed from the line-up.
Michaela Strachan and Juliet Morris were also cut in the 2009 revamp.
Smith is the first in the group to take up presenting duties again alongside Matt Baker in a new Sunday evening slot.
