To celebrate the release of Basket Case on Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray available from 29th April, we have a Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray to give away to a lucky winner!
The feature debut of director Frank Henenlotter, 1982’s Basket Case is a riotous and blood-spattered “midnight movie” experience, now presented for the first time ever on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.
Duane Bradley seems like a pretty ordinary guy. His formerly conjoined twin Belial, on the other hand, is a deformed creature who lives in a wicker basket. Arriving in the Big Apple and taking up a room at a seedy hotel, the pair set about hunting down and butchering the surgeons responsible for their separation.
Filmed on a shoestring budget against the backdrop of 1980s New York (where it played on the midnight movie circuit for over two-and-a-half years), Basket Case has clawed its way from...

The Tenant In Room 7 Is Very Small, Very Twisted, And Very Mad.
Fran Henenlotter’s Basket Case (1982) is currently available on Blu-ray from Arrow Video
The feature debut of director Frank Henenlotter (Brain Damage, Frankenhooker), 1982’s Basket Case is perhaps his most revered – a riotous and blood-spattered midnight movie experience, now immortalized in a lavish new 4K restoration by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
Duane Bradley is a pretty ordinary guy. His formerly conjoined twin Belial, on the other hand, is a deformed, fleshy lump whom he carries around in a wicker basket. Arriving in the Big Apple and taking up a room at the seedy Hotel Broslin, the pair set about hunting down and butchering the surgeons responsible for their separation. February’s horror and sci-fi home media titles are coming to a close this week, but before we can bid adieu to the month, there are a bounty of cult classics (and a few notable new films) coming our way on Tuesday that fans should definitely keep an eye out for. Arrow Video is keeping busy with a pair of limited edition Blu-rays for Scalpel and Frank Henenlotter’s original Basket Case, and Tibor Takacs’ Gate II is being resurrected in HD via the fine folks at Scream Factory.
Vinegar Syndrome has put together a limited edition Blu for Prey, and Michele Soavi’s The Sect comes home this week too, courtesy of Scorpion Releasing. Other notable releases for February 27th include 78/52: Hitchcock’s Shower Scene (which is an excellent documentary on Psycho’s most memorable moment), Serpent’s Lair, Hangman, The Brainiac, Colossus: The Forbin Project, Lost Creek,...

My love of Basket Case didn’t officially occur until its sequel – when the deformed brother of Duane Bradley (Kevin VanHentenryck), Belial, finally met the “girl” of his dreams. However, the original Basket Case has a lot to offer, and I’ve chosen it for the second installment of Terror Tapes because for many of us, Basket Case (directed by Frank Henelotter) was the reason we fell in love with horror in the first place. You probably have memories of walking into the video store, stepping into the horror section and falling in love with the font on the video cover, dripping with blood, and a horrendous face peeking out from inside a basket. That was the Media Home VHS box. Or perhaps your video store carried the Palace Version VHS with Duane on the cover, carrying the basket, with some of the sleaziest signs from New York’s 42nd Street in the background.

On September 27, 2011, the cult film classic Basket Case (1982) (review here), about the weird relationship between two brothers, finally comes to Blu-ray. Lovingly restored and supervised by Director Frank Henenlotter himself, the new Blu-ray boasts the film’s best version since it was first filmed.
I recently had the chance to talk with Frank, who tried to avoid a film career and yet is one of the most popular independent grindhouse filmmakers since Herschell Gordon Lewis.
Colleen: How did you get your start making films?
Frank Henenlotter: I just made them. I took my father’s 8mm camera and I graduated to a 16mm camera. I just loved making movies. I never intended them to be commercial. In fact I never intended them to be seen, I just enjoyed making movies. I never intended to have a career out of it and I still don...
