SyFy has released a trailer for the up coming series "Haven", based on The Colorado Kid written by Stephen King. Word has it that King has nothing to do with the series and it is more 'in the flavor' of King than actually influenced by any of the horror icon's texts. That said, it looks like some of the writing team from The Dead Zone is involved, and I was a fan of Dead Zone – so not giving up hope here. Here is the trailer and some details from SyFy.

Toronto -- Credit Los Angeles agents and distributors with the heavy lifting behind recent U.S. network deals for Canadian series like CBS' "Flashpoint" and NBC's "Howie Do It."
"All roads lead through Hollywood, whether it's for packaging, financing, distribution, and everyone needs an advocate physically based in Hollywood," says agent Charles Lenhoff at Lenhoff & Lenhoff, who has represented Canadian A-listers on his roster since the 1980s.
Much as last year's Hollywood writers strike opened a door into U.S. primetime for series from the Great White North, Canadian producers have relied on Los Angeles handlers to keep their foot in the door at the studios.
Sure, the creative for upcoming series like NBC's "The Listener" and CBS' "The Bridge" was spawned in Canada, and that's where the recognizably Canadian series get made with tax credits and other local incentives.

E1, which this week sold "Copper," another of its cop dramas, to ABC, has "Shattered" in development as a pilot at Canadian broadcaster Global Television and set for a Canadian series pickup.
John Morayniss, president of E1 Television, said "Shattered" has been shopped to the U.S. networks and a deal is expected before long.
The pilot for the cop drama from Force Four Films and E1 featured Callum Keith Rennie as a damaged recluse who solves crimes using his multiple-personality disorder.
Billed as " 'CSI' meets 'A Beautiful Mind,' the "Shattered" pilot also starred Laura Jordan as a special investigator who teams up with Kyle Logan (Rennie).

CBS on Thursday signed a deal to co-produce its second cop drama with CTV after the Canadian network last year brought it "Flashpoint" during the WGA strike.
"The Bridge," from E1 Entertainment and 990 Multi Media Entertainment, was created by former police officer Craig Bromell and written by Alan Di Fiore ("Da Vinci's Inquest).
"The Bridge" portrays cops battling criminals on the streets and their bosses and know-nothing politicians in the corridors of power. The series stars Aaron Douglas ("Battlestar Galactica") as a police union head who locks horns with the police brass in an attempt to combat corruption.
Bromell said the Canadian series, a twist on the cops-and-cons procedural, takes viewers behind police lines to where ordinary officers are forced to combat corruption and skullduggery by their top brass and politicians when they're not patrolling the streets.

- People like to sit and watch. One of the many reasons why the Rwandan Genocide - a slaughter of an estimated 1 million of Tutsis and carried out by two extremist Hutu militia groups, during the summer of 1994 occured. A new project hopes that people do just that - to sit and watch but also think. One can still sense the rage, the helplessness and the what very little optimism still exists in Lt. Lieutenant General Roméo A. Dallaire – a man who made headlines by heavily criticizing the role that the government plays in international conflicts where not thousands, but millions of lives are at stake. Dallaire sleeps better at night by taking drugs to numb that hell hole he encountered more than a decade ago and perhaps Shake Hands with the Devil will be a manner in which he can somehow accomplish the mission he was given.

TORONTO -- Canadian film and TV producers on Tuesday named Guy Mayson president and CEO of the Canadian Film and Television Production Assn. Mayson was appointed the acting CFTPA president and CEO at June's Banff Television Festival, soon after his predecessor, Elizabeth Macdonald, resigned her post. His permanent appointment as top lobbyist for Canadian producers was announced by Laszlo Barna, the CFTPA chair and president of film and TV producer Barna-Alper Prods., ahead of CFTPA members gathering in Ottawa for a conference from Jan. 28-30. "With the industry facing critical funding and financing challenges, the association believes Guy's experience and background will lead to innovative solutions for independent producers," Barna said in a statement. Immediate priorities for Mayson include restoring funding to the Canadian Television Fund, the main source of taxpayer subsidies for independent producers, and increasing tax credits and other incentives to encourage domestic film and TV production. Canadian film and TV producers have been under pressure in recent years owing to falling government support, a rising Canadian dollar and a weak international market for TV product. Mayson joined the CFTPA in 1997 as executive vp.

TORONTO -- Canada's leading TV producer has urged the federal government -- the largest investor in Canadian TV -- and domestic broadcasters to pour more money into struggling original Canadian drama. Laszlo Barna (Da Vinci's Inquest), the newly installed chairman of the Canadian Film and Television Production Assn., which represents major private independent producers, said Canadian broadcasters were paying insufficient license fees for domestic dramas compared with their European counterparts. Barna said license fees paid by Canadian broadcasters on average covered 15%-35% of actual production costs, while the federal government and international co-production partners covered most of the remaining financing. In the British and U.S. markets, broadcasters pay license fees that cover about 80% of production costs, he said.

OTTAWA -- Faced with a steady fall in homegrown primetime dramas on English-language TV schedules, Canada's broadcast watchdog on Friday has asked for advice on how to "better" finance and support the production of original one-hour dramas. The call by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) on Friday for written comments on how to "attract larger audiences to Canadian English-language drama programs" earned praise from industry players. "We're happy that the commission has taken this step," Laszlo Barna, chairman of the Canadian Film and Television Production Assn. (CFTPA), which represents major independent producers, said in an interview. "There are a lot of issues to be addressed, particularly when we're up against the Americans, who have larger budgets than we do, and they have cross-promotion access that we don't have." Barna added that the association will urge more promotion and better scheduling for homegrown dramas. The action on homegrown dramas follows a dramatic drop in their numbers since the CRTC changed its TV policy in 1999 by removing spending requirements and allowing domestic broadcasters to program cheaper documentaries, reality series or variety fare in place of expensive homegrown dramas to fulfill Canadian-content quotas.
