If you attended a UK primary school in the last 50 years, then the sight of two white, animated eyes on a black screen turning into the heart of the word ‘Look’ is likely to trigger all sorts of pink custard and plimsoll memories. Those moving eyes, shown on the big TV wheeled by teachers into classrooms every so often, signalled the start of an adventure.
The eyes were part of the Look and Read logo, a schools TV series designed to teach literacy, apostrophe usage and the joys of magic, magic E. The first Look And Read programme was 1967’s Bob And Carol Look For Treasure, a 10-part story about two kids’ clue-filled search for swag and eventual capture of a thief. The most recent, Shadow Play – about a young boy who discovers the diary of a Victorian girl – aired in 2004. In between were the likes of Geordie Racer, the...

A biopic on 18th century virtuoso violinist and composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint Georges, featuring Kelvin Harrison Jr. in the title role, “Chevalier” is a delicately assembled cinematic Fabergé egg.
If you watch the film (premiering at the Toronto Film Festival) with the sound off, it can easily be mistaken for a French studio production made in adherence to the Tradition of Quality. But while it purports to celebrate a forgotten historical figure, much of the plot is decidedly ahistorical.
It opens in pre-revolution France, with Joseph crashing a Mozart concert and challenging the prodigy to a violin dual, something like the 18th century Parisian equivalent of Verzuz. While Mozart aims to school the brash unknown and deliver a lesson in humility, Joseph has the goods to upstage him and thoroughly enrapture the audience.

It's been a busy week for the royal family. Just a day after the royals celebrated the christening of Prince Louis, they reunited for the Royal Air Force's centenary. Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived at Westminster Abbey on Tuesday for a church service celebrating the momentous occasion. They were joined by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a pastel coat by McQueen while the Duchess of Sussex donned a dark dress by Dior. In fact, the neckline of Meghan's dress gave royal admirers flashbacks to the Givenchy gown she wore on her wedding day. Both royals also sported fascinators. According to Sky News, Kate wore a hat by Sean Barrett while Meghan opted for a hat by Stephen...

While this year’s Dunkirk brought an intensity to the screen conveying the horrors of what was experienced by the soldiers at Dunkirk, there was a version of that same story that was released back in 1958. Now digitally restored and available on DVD and Blu-ray, this Dunkirk is an interesting look at how the true events affected many people.
When Nazi Germany invaded France, the British army found themselves in retreat. Making their way to Dunkirk which was the only means of escape, Operation Dynamo was put into action to get the soldiers out of France and home.

Former President Barack Obama gave a keynote speech on one of his signature presidential issues, climate change, at the Seeds and Chips Global Food Innovation Summit in Milan … but there was also time for anecdotes about life after the White House.
He and wife Michelle Obama settled into their $4.3 million home in Washington, D.C., after enjoying a post-presidency vacation in Palm Springs and the British Virgin Islands.
“I’m actually enjoying being in my own house. I have been fighting Michelle to get more closet space,” Obama said. “I have been trying to figure out how the coffee maker works.
