It may be difficult to imagine Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants without America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel, Blake Lively and Amber Tamblyn, but some other stars actually came close to landing roles in the hit film.
Producer Debra Martin Chase recalled what went into casting the 2005 movie during a recent interview on the Hollywood Gold podcast.
She said Ferrera, who played Carmen, was “the first one we cast,” but noted she was “still very much a newbie” at that time.
The Princess Diaries producer also revealed that they were going to cast Mischa Barton in Lively’s role of Bridget, and have Kristin Kreuk play Bledel’s character, Lena, but when production got delayed, both actresses were busy again filming The O.C. and Smallville, respectively.
“So we started all over. We saw everybody,” Chase said. “I mean, Kaley Cuoco, Alexa [PenaVega]… [Olivia Wilde] was in the shortlist.”

Sudden success is a hell of a drug. Be it entertainment, sports, or certain, shockingly competitive sectors of the healthcare industry, you can count on numerous fast risers to get high on their own supply and take an ego-fueled torch to their career.
Television actors are especially susceptible to these vain slip-ups, and it's easy to understand why. Before the advent of prestige TV, the small-screen medium was, particularly for young-ish performers, viewed as a potential springboard to big-screen stardom. Sometimes it works out. Chevy Chase bolted from "Saturday Night Live" midway through its second season and instantly became a movie star on the strength of his work in Colin Higgins' sporadically hilarious "Foul Play" (even though he's far from the funniest element of the film). And sometimes you're David Caruso, who quit "NYPD Blue" to topline a pair of 1995 flops in Barbet Schroder's "Kiss of Death" (underrated) and William Friedkin's "Jade".

A cultural crusader strikes in L.A. Slasher, now streaming on Screambox.
Directed by Martin Owen and produced by Jeffrey Wright and Daniel Sollinger, the black comedy stars Mischa Barton (“The O.C.”), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Danny Trejo (Machete), and comedian Andy Dick as the voice of the killer.
L.A. Slasher is “a biting, social satire about reality TV and the glorification of people who are famous for simply being famous.”
The film also “explores why it has become acceptable and even admirable for people to become influential and wealthy based on no merit or talent – purely through notoriety achieved through shameful behavior.
“Incensed by the tabloid culture which celebrates it, the L.A. Slasher publicly abducts a series of reality TV stars, while the media and general public in turn begin to question if society is better off without them.”
Here’s the trailer.

The O.C. almost looked very different!
A few years ago, former The O.C. co-stars Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke, who played Summer Roberts and Julie Cooper respectively, launched their brand new podcast, Welcome to The O.C., Bitches.
On the podcast’s first episode, the ladies were joined by the show’s creator Josh Schwartz.
During their conversation, Josh talked about the show’s casting process, revealing that Ben McKenzie and Mischa Barton weren’t the top choices to play Ryan Atwood and Marissa Cooper, before sharing which other actors were also up for those parts.

Actress Mischa Barton thinks she is still suffering from “trauma” after shooting to fame as a teenager. The 37-year-old actress got her big break on the hit TV show ‘The O.C.’ when she was just 17 and she rose to international stardom during her early 20s, but the actress believes she’s still scarred from the experience of becoming famous at a young age, reports aceshowbiz.com.
“You can go to therapy every day for the rest of your life, but there’s just a certain amount of trauma (from) all that I went through, particularly in my early 20s, that just doesn’t go away overnight,” she told The Times newspaper.
Mischa went on to insist she would rather have stayed out of the spotlight, adding: “I don’t think I was fully prepared for that level of fame. Because it has never been something that I have sought out.

Mischa Barton is opening up about the toll fame had on her as a teenager.
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, the actress, who rose to stardom at age 17 after starring as Marissa Cooper on The O.C., recalled the “trauma” she endured working in the industry when she was younger.
“You can go to therapy every day for the rest of your life,” Barton said. “But there’s just a certain amount of trauma [from] all that I went through, particularly in my early 20s, that just doesn’t go away overnight.”
The Neighbours star explained that she felt like she was never “prepared for that level of fame.”
She added, “It has never been something that I have sought out. I really would much rather be anonymous.”
But being anonymous was basically impossible for Barton because she was constantly followed by paparazzi during that time in her life.

The actress opened up about meeting the pop star back in the day and how it didn’t go well.
Justin Timberlake was once the object of Rachel Bilson‘s affection back in the early 2000s, but their flirtatious moment at a party took an unexpected turn, according to revelations made during Bilson’s podcast.
During Monday’s episode of her “Broad Ideas” podcast, the 42-year-old actress shared her encounter with the pop sensation at a party during their early years in Hollywood.
“In our day, Justin Timberlake was very big, right? Like, the biggest. Sorry, no disrespect — he’s still very big. We were all at a party, or something, and he was there, and I was so obsessed with him,” Bilson began, hesitating momentarily, before saying, “I can’t tell this story.”
However, her co-host, Olivia Allen, picked up where she left off, divulging how she inadvertently sabotaged the flirty encounter.

Oh no, not Harold!
The elderly, endearing character is one of Neighbours' most iconic residents. Besides being a rich source of Ramsey Street history, he's also one of the few Erinsborough residents to return from the dead.
But according to spoilers for Neighbours during the week of 9-25-23, Karl begins to worry that there's something more to Harold's recent memory lapses than meets the eye. Could this be the beginning of the end for Harold?
Harold's memory problems, coupled with the Karl spoiler, likely point toward Alzheimer's or another form of dementia.
Much of his forgetfulness up to this point could be attributed to his preoccupation with that history book he's carrying around. However, forgetting he had a wedding to attend -- one of the reasons he was in town -- was strange.

[Neighbours: A New Chapter is an Australian production that filmed before the SAG-AFTRA strike began. Mischa Barton received permission from SAG-AFTRA to do press for the season amid the strike.] Everybody needs good neighbors, but neighborly affection might not be top of mind for Mischa Barton‘s mysterious Reece Sinclair in Neighbours: A New Chapter. The legendary Australian soap opera is back by popular demand following the Neighbours series finale in 2022. Now, A New Chapter picks up two years after the events of the finale, and Stefan Dennis is back as Paul Robinson, among a slew of fellow returning cast members. Neighbours: A New Chapter debuted its first episode on Monday, September 18 on Freevee, with new episodes coming out Mondays-Thursdays now through next week. Dennis and Barton give fans a peek behind the curtain of the fresh iteration in the TV Insider Soap Talk episode above. And as Dennis reveals, it “took [me] 24 hours to make up my mind whether ...

“The O.C.” alum Mischa Barton guest starring on a reboot of long-running Australian soap opera “Neighbours” was probably not on anybody’s 2023 bingo card. The show was cancelled last spring, but — in a twist that could rival the soap’s melodramatic storylines — it was brought back from the dead by Amazon Freevee eight months later.
The reboot has given the show a new lease of life, and as well as welcoming back many of the old cast members it has also embraced some new ones – including Barton.
Ahead of the “Neighbours’” launch on Sept. 18, Barton sat down with Variety to discuss how she wound up joining the show, her next project and whether a reboot of “The O.C.” could also ever be in the cards.
How did you end up as a guest star on “Neighbours”?
Over the years they’ve asked me a couple of times and tried to get me for different roles.

Contains spoilers for Neighbours.
Last year’s announcement that Neighbours was ending prompted the return of its prodigal children. Not just the on-screen ones journeying to Ramsay Street to reunite with lost loves/burn down Lassiters/marry Paul Robinson, but also us – the Aussie soap’s lapsed viewers. We came back too, sticking one last hopeful hand into the cookie jar of nostalgia, hoping to feel… well, anything.
The only problem: Neighbours was unrecognisable. There was no Helen Daniels and Bouncer had long retired to the big farm in the sky. If you’d drifted away at some point between the third Lucy Robinson and the plane crash that turned Harold Bishop into the Erinsborough strangler, then this is for you. Here’s a handy guide to Neighbours’ current plots and characters. Never ask ‘Who’s Paige? again.

If it seems like it's been a long time since you've visited Erinsborough, don't worry; the all-new episodes will make up for it.
As we reported previously, Freevee's revival of the iconic Australian soap will pick up two years after the original finale. But the drama will be just as intense, and the all-new stories will be easy to follow.
Neighbours spoilers for the week of 9-18-23 promise to jump right in with a wedding, and that's only for starters!
Although spoilers don't reveal exactly who is getting married, it's most likely Paul and Terese.
These two always find their way back to one another, and they reconciled during the original finale. And since Glen no longer appears to be in Erinsborough, the time is right for them to make their reunion official.

This article contains major spoilers for "A Haunting in Venice."
The murder mystery "whodunit" has very close ties to the horror genre; in fact, some may argue that murder mysteries deserve to be considered a part of the horror genre, full stop. It's splitting hairs, of course, but the question is one of tone and focus — most horror stories put a bigger emphasis on the act(s) of murder, while most mystery stories are about murder's after-effects.
"A Haunting in Venice" is the latest cinematic Agatha Christie adaptation by Kenneth Branagh in which he serves a dual role on both sides of the camera, as both director and actor portraying the central role of detective Hercule Poirot. Branagh's previous adaptations of Christie's Poirot mysteries, "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Death on the Nile," were films that fit neatly into the mystery genre and even, in a couple of instances,...

Unlike most American soaps, Australia's Neighbours usually avoids back-from-the-dead stories.
Only two characters ever have gotten a miraculous resurrection (Harold Bishop and Dee Bliss), although many have returned as ghostly visitors.
But the soap itself is another story. Several months after its cancellation, Freevee on Amazon picked up Neighbours.
This means North American fans can access episodes online for the first time since 2014, when it was briefly streamed on Hulu.
Whether you're a new viewer curious about the series or a long-time fan relieved about the revival, you probably want to know what to expect. We've got all the news in this post; check for updates as the premiere date draws closer.

Freevee has released the first trailer for Neighbours, a continuation of the beloved Australian series that ended in 2022 after a 37-year run. And returning for this “new chapter” are original stars such as Guy Pearce, plus new cast member Mischa Barton in a mysterious role. Freevee’s Neighbours trailer keeps Barton’s role quite the secret. The O.C. alum’s face is barely seen throughout the nearly two-minute video, churning up intrigue about what drama she’ll bring to the revival. “Why would she not make her presence known?” Melissa Bell’s Lucy asks. As Stefan Dennis‘ Paul replies, “Because she is a spy!” As the Freevee synopsis reads, Neighbours is a “continuation of the long-running series” showing “the lives, loves, and challenges of the residents on Ramsay Street in Erinsborough, Australia, a fictional suburb of Melbourne.” The show “will pick up two years after the finale in 2022, which...

The creators of The Oc are speaking out about their controversial decision to kill off Mischa Barton's Marissa Cooper.
Barton was written out of the Fox teen soap at the close of its third season, forever changing the series and possibly paving the way for its cancellation one season later.
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage opened up to Vanity Fair about the decision in an interview promoting their new book, Welcome to the O.C.: The Oral History.
Marissa was killed off when Volchok drove Ryan's car off the road, leading to one of the defining moments of the series.
“It’s something that we regret, and looking back on it, we wish we could have come up with a different solution,” Schwartz says to the outlet.
“We didn’t see an alternative path at the time, which is why we went down that road," he elaborated.

Can it really be 20 years since “The O.C.” premiered on Fox? Bottoms is bloody good fun. In the high school sex comedy, which premiered at SXSW, two lesbian students — played by Rachel Sennott (The Idol) and Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) — are so eager to lose their virginity that they start an after-school fight club, all in the hopes of seducing cheerleaders. Due out Aug. 25 from Orion Pictures and MGM, the raucous movie is director Emma Seligman’s follow-up to her Independent Spirit Award-winning debut, Shiva Baby, in which Sennott (who co-wrote Bottoms) played a bisexual Jewish woman who attends a shiva where both her ex-girlfriend and current sugar daddy are present. Seligman, who uses she and they pronouns, spoke with THR about making the film, her own identity and her thoughts on authentic casting for LGBTQ roles.
