Project Angel Food has signed a three-year deal with Ktla and City National Bank for its annual Lead With Love telethon. This year’s telethon will air on Ktla 5 at 7 p.m. Pt on July 23, with returning hosts Eric McCormack, Jessica Holmes, Loni Love and Alec Mapa.
Founded in 1989, Project Angel Food combats food insecurity in Los Angeles County by providing more than 1 million tailored meals each year to people in need. The two-hour telethon has raised 2 million for the organization since debuting in 2020, and previous telethons have featured performances from Kelly Clarkson, Annie Lennox and Gloria Estefan, as well as appearances from Elton John, Ringo Starr and Jamie Lee Curtis. This year’s special guests have yet to be announced, but the program promises to include live musical performances for the audience of Project Angel volunteers.

Sundance Institute today announced that the organization is deepening its commitment to its New Frontier program for artists innovating the art and form of storytelling, including the appointment of Shari Frilot and Kamal Sinclair as Co-Directors of the program.
New Frontier at Sundance Institute is a cross-programmatic initiative created to identify and foster independent artists working at the convergence of film, art, media, live performance, music and technology. Since 2007, the New Frontier exhibition at the Sundance Film Festival has provided the highest level of curation in the field, incorporating fiction, non-fiction and hybrid storytelling to showcase multi-media installations, performances and films. Sundance Institute established the New Frontier Story Lab in 2011 to deepen its support of storytellers pioneering new ways of working across various media and engaging with technology and in 2014 began the New Frontier Flash Lab and Artist Residency programs.
Highlights of work shown at the Festival include the first large-scale public exhibition of Oculus Rift Vr technology, the world premiere of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s hitRECord, Nfb/interactive’s "Bear 71", and the U.S. premiere of "The Source (evolving)" by renowned artist Doug Aitken, as well as works by Isaac Julien, Pierre Huyghe, Aaron Koblin, Jennifer Steinkamp, Lynn Hershman Leeson, and Matthew Barney. Among the artists supported at the New Frontier Story Lab are Chris Milk, Hank Willis Thomas, Gary Baseman, Roger Ross Williams, The Goggles and Yung Jake.
Robert Redford, President & Founder of Sundance Institute, said, “Artists continue to challenge us to immerse ourselves in new ways of experiencing stories. The Sundance Institute New Frontier program was created to discover, support and showcase those artists working at the forefront of this exciting new area.”
Keri Putnam, Executive Director of Sundance Institute, said, “New Frontier provides a unique and rich platform of support to artists who harness new technologies to develop interactive and immersive projects. Kamal and Shari will be instrumental in designing and implementing the future of our New Frontier program, allowing us to continue to evolve along with this dynamic field of storytelling.”
As Co-Directors, New Frontier, Frilot and Sinclair will collaborate on activities including cultivating and building relationships with artists and technologists, researching trends, and leading strategic planning and growth for the program.
Frilot will continue to curate New Frontier exhibition activities. A filmmaker, curator and festival programmer for events including Mix International Festivals and La’s Outfest, she is presently in her 15 th year as a Senior Programmer for the Sundance Film Festival. Frilot has been a pioneer in the development of immersive cinematic environments and the creative force behind New Frontier since its inception. She is an alumna of Harvard/Radcliffe University, and the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program.
Sinclair will oversee the annual New Frontier Story Lab, Flash Labs and Artist Residencies. She is a transmedia producer, theatrical director, community arts leader and multi-disciplinary artist. She served as artist and producer on the "Question Bridge: Black Males" collaborative transmedia art project and worked at 42 Entertainment on projects such as "Legends of Alcatraz" and "Random Acts of Fusion." She graduated with her Bfa from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and her Mba from Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business.

New Moca director Jeffrey Deitch might have just accepted the art world's most controversial position, but if there's one thing everyone can agree he's great at, it's throwing a party. And now, he's got a bright, blank new L.A. canvas to work with. We asked artists, curators and critics to provide some guidance for Deitch's new gig.
Time to pitch a Moca reality show to one of the major networks now that you're in L.A. The concept is your life: "Ack! The economy's gone to shit so now I'm a newbie museum director." During this 13-episode series viewers will watch you navigate museum politics, get lost in L.A. and schmooze with celebrities and art glitterati. Show title: Sink or Swim! The prize: Glory--and the USA's best museum stays open.-Paddy Johnson, Art Fag City
Deitch should expand his plans with James Franco and General Hospital and embrace Los Angeles' soap opera scene.

"Disney's Teacher's Pet", which grew out of Disney's Daytime Emmy-winning animated television series of the same name, represents mischievous fun for youngsters: Family pets converse, a row of houses bursts into song and so many gags fill the screen that only multiple viewings will reveal them all. The animal and human kingdoms get mixed up in ways that should delight young viewers, while older ones can chuckle at the vocal antics of such actors as Nathan Lane as the dog Spot, Kelsey Grammer as wacko Dr. Krank and Jerry Stiller as a big-mouthed canary with zippy one-liners.
The film will do well with the matinee crowd, but probably much better when it reaches homes in DVD and video release, where youngsters will no doubt subject those fleeting gags to multiple viewings.
Produced by the Disney Television Animation division, the feature owes its flamboyant caricatures and painterly backgrounds to illustrator Gary Baseman, who helped create the series and acts as art director here. The lead character is a dog that looks like a blue penguin with huge teeth, while a cat resembles a yellow fish with tiny legs.
Spot is a dog that doesn't know his place. He more or less lives a boy's life, getting dressed each morning for school with his master Leonard (Shaun Fleming) and being treated like a human by Leonard's classmates and teacher. Only Leonard wishes that Spot would chase balls and sticks like normal dogs.
When Leonard and his mom, fourth-grade teacher Mrs. Helperman Debra Jo Rupp), take off for Florida, where she is a finalist in a national teachers contest, Spot is eager to join them. Not only does he miss his family, but while watching an insult TV talk show he learns that in Florida resides a Dr. Krank (Grammer), who claims to be able to turn animals into humans.
Spot stows away on the "Wentawaygo", but when they all arrive in Florida he discovers that Dr. Krank's experiments have resulted in a mutant alligator boy (Paul Reubens) and mosquito girl (Megan Mullally). However, with a more "advanced" species, Dr. Krank is able to turn Spot into Scott. Only no one had reckoned on how many dog years Spot has already lived: Scott turns out to be a grumpy adult with hairy knuckles.
To turn Scott back into Spot requires the involvement of the family cat Jolly David Ogden Stiers), bossy canary Pretty Boy (Stiller) and Dr. Krank's computer-hacking nephew Ian (Rob Paulsen). Several zippy songs intrude, from "A Boy Needs a Dog", a lament over tampering with nature, to the tango-esque "I, Ivan Krank", performed by Grammer.
There is little "down time" here as outside of the musical numbers, director Timothy Bjorklund and his animation team move story and objects at a frantic pace. The colors are big, saturated and vibrant, while backgrounds are simple though comical, making the movie seem less like a traditional animated feature than a comic strip come to life. But for all the work that went into the whimsical creatures and painterly palette, the voice actors more or less steal the show.
