It has been a Long time since I last watched Michele Soavi’s The Church - the last time I saw it was a rare TV screening on Bravo if memory serves… It’s not like I’m not a fan of the film, after all – thanks to the heavy promotion of the film in The Darkside magazine – I first saw the film on the very day it hit VHS here in the UK… I actually “pre-ordered” my rental of the film at my local, now long defunct, video store and fell in love with the glorious religious iconography and the overall otherworldy, eerie, look of the film – from the prologue, to the [literal] heart-wrenching scene featuring Tomas Arana,...

Okay, kids. Time to drool a little bit as we're about to show you two amazing packages for Synapse Films' upcoming Blu-ray releases of the classic flicks Demons and Demons 2. The word "badass" is an understatement.
From the Synapse Films Website
We wanted to keep everyone updated on Demons and Demons 2, and we’re pleased to announce a little surprise with these two titles. Synapse Films has been approached by Scanavo, the makers of the Steelbook cases for Blu-ray and DVD, and we have decided to do something a little special for the fans.
As many of you know, for the past few years, Synapse has done “Limited Edition” versions of some of our titles near the holidays. We did the limited edition Blu of Intruder with the workprint (sold out in 3 weeks), and last year we did the limited edition Blu of The Definitive Document Of The Dead...

Say what you will about his recent output, Dario Argento is still a legend in the horror community. The Italian director has released so many quality horror films and has given us so many nightmarish images over the years that I’m surprised that I can sleep at all at night. Two of these classics from the director will be making their way for the first time on Blu-ray in the states. Phenomena and Tenebrae will both be seeing a hi-def release courtesy of Synapse Films later this year. Arrow Video has previously released both of these in the UK and abroad, but U.S. fans will finally get to see the gory details of these two films on Blu-ray. Synapse spoke to Fangoria about the upcoming release of these two films along with a pair of other features you may have heard of:

Calum Waddell of High Rising Productions, who’s producing those extras, let us know what to look forward to: “We have some really meaty stuff—lengthy interviews and in-depth personality profiles,” he tells Fango. “The kind of material that we hope people expect from High Rising by now! We have brand new interviews on Demons with [1st through 4th photos below] Lamberto Bava, Dario Argento, stuntman Ottaviano Dell’Acqua, Alan Jones, the worldwide authority on all things Argento-related, and Luigi Cozzi, who contextualizes the Demons films and speaks about the unofficial sequels—including how his own movie The Black Cat ended up as Demons 6 in some territories! For Demons 2, we have Lamberto again, composer Simon Boswell [5th photo below], assistant director Roy Bava, effects maestro Sergio Stivaletti and Federico Zampaglione, the new blood of Italian horror [director of Shadow and the upcoming Tulpa], chatting about Demons and how it has inspired him.

Synapse Films has recently announced its plans to release new, high-def collector editions of two of Dario Argento's films, and two of Lamberto Bava's films. Tenebrae and Phenomena from Argento; Demons and Demons 2 from Bava should all be available on blu-ray and DVD by the end of the year.
Don May Jr. from Synapse spoke exclusively to Fangoria, and had this to say:
"We’re getting better hi-def masters of Tenebrae and Phenomena, and we’re fixing the timing and color errors that were in the previous Blu-rays of the Demons films. Right now, Calum Waddell and High Rising Productions are working on supplements for Demons and Demons 2. They’re putting together all kinds of stuff for us on those two, with the participation of Simon Boswell, Alan Jones, Federico Zampaglione and Roy Bava, and many more to be announced. We haven’t started on the Tenebrae and Phenomena extras yet.

Earlier this month, we told you that Synapse Films would be releasing a Blu-ray version of Lamberto Bava’s Demons, and it’s now being reported that they’re also working on new Blu-ray versions of Demons 2, along with Dario Argento’s Tenebre and Phenomena.
Don May Jr. of Synapse Films recently gave Fangoria an update on their upcoming Blu-ray/DVD titles:

Synapse Films’ Don May Jr. gave Fango the scoop that the company just acquired Lamberto Bava’s Demons and Demons 2 and Dario Argento’s Tenebrae and Phenomena. “We’ll be releasing Blu-rays and DVDs of all four in 2013,” he tells us. “We’re getting better hi-def masters of Tenebrae and Phenomena, and we’re fixing the timing and color errors that were in the previous Blu-rays of the Demons films. One of the complaints raised at the special Fangoria 30th-anniversary panel at Spain’s Sitges international film fest (see last report here and go here for the fest’s official site) was the lack of Italian contributions to the current cinematic fright scene. The gruesome 1980s are long gone, where goremeisters such as the late Lucio Fulci ruled the scene. Italian horror directors find it nearly impossible to get their films financed these days, while the master, Dario Argento, appears to have lost his mojo (Mother Of Tears bombed in most territories, and advance buzz on Giallo remains dire).
“It’s very difficult to get horror movies made in Italy, which is why I moved to Bucharest,” says former Fango scribe Loris Curci, who graduated to producing movies in recent years. His efforts include the Ken Foree Croatian/Catalan/American zombie flick Zone Of The Dead, a Sitges premiere,...
