- Hal Baylor was born on December 10, 1918 in San Antonio, Texas, USA. He was an actor, known for Big Jim McLain (1952), Evel Knievel (1971) and Emergency! (1972). He died on January 5, 1998 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
- His great-great grandfather was the original founder of Baylor University.
- His fight with Robert Ryan in The Set-Up (1949) is still considered to be one of the very best ever choreographed boxing scenes in motion picture film history.
- In one scene from Sands of Iwo Jima (1949), combat veteran Sgt. Stryker (John Wayne) instructed bumbling recruit Pvt. Choynski (Baylor) on the correct way to march and hold a rifle. In real life Baylor served in the United States Marine Corps and had fought in the battles of Saipan and Tinian in World War II.
