CBS is continuing to fill out its roster for the 2024-25 season.
The network has picked up two of its Monday night staples, The Neighborhood and NCIS, for next season. The renewals will take The Neighborhood into its seventh season and NCIS to its 22nd. With Young Sheldon ending this season, The Neighborhood will also become CBS’ longest-running current comedy series.
The pickups for NCIS and The Neighborhood come hours after CBS renewed its FBI franchise — including a three-season order for the flagship series — for next season. The network has also renewed Fire Country, Ghosts, and first-year dramas NCIS: Sydney and Tracker for next season. The second half of Blue Bloods‘ final season is also set to air in the fall.

“NCIS” and “The Neighborhood” have both been renewed at CBS.
The renewal will bring “NCIS” to its 22nd season, while “The Neighborhood” will be back for its seventh season. Both shows currently air on Mondays on the broadcast network.
“’The Neighborhood’ and ‘NCIS’ are the very best definition of a CBS comedy and drama,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “They embody authentic storytelling with heart, humor, and family dynamics. We are proud to bring them back next season.”
“NCIS” has long been a cornerstone of the CBS scripted lineup. Per CBS, the series is still averaging 12.9 million multiplatform viewers, even this late in its run. The show serves as the foundation for a TV franchise that continues to pay off for CBS and parent company Paramount. CBS also currently airs “NCIS: Hawaii” while “NCIS: Sydney” airs on Paramount+ and CBS. CBS is also at work on a prequel...

Sean Murray now holds the distinction of being the longest-running NCIS cast member. However, despite being the stepson of the show’s creator, Donald Bellisario, he still does not feel very secure in his job.
That seems so unlikely as on Monday, CBS will be celebrating the 1,000 episode of the NCISVerse. Yet, he remains uncertain.
Why doesn’t the actor who portrays geeky Agent Tim McGee “feel safe” in his long-time role?

Back in 1989, the original Quantum Leap sci-fi series was one of the more popular shows on TV. Created by Donald P. Bellisario, the series consisted of a total of 97 episodes spread through five seasons. The original show starred Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. Bellisario revived the show in 2022, setting it 30 years after the end of the original series. The series ran for two seasons (31 episodes in total) on NBC, and we are sad to report that the series has now been canceled after two seasons on NBC.
This news doesn’t really come as a major shocker to anyone, as the series had been on the bubble ever since its two-hour season finale that aired on February 20, 2024. In contrast to this, the series had been renewed for a second season in December 2022, while the season was still being broadcast.

It doesn’t take a team of federal agents to figure out that if you picked up this magazine, you’re probably one of the 300 million people from around the world who watched some version of NCIS last year. That’s just a smidge under the entire population of the United States. The massive fandom around the military procedural, which reigns as the most watched drama on broadcast TV, began in 2003 with a spectacular series premiere from cocreators Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill. The episode, inspired by the 1997 movie Air Force One, introduced what would become the show’s signature recipe of action, emotion, and a dash of humor when agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard (David McCallum) investigate a mysterious death aboard the presidential plane. We fell in love with Gibbs’ gruffness and Ducky’s intellect. We were intrigued by the twisty case...

Pauley Perrette’s NCIS character Abby Sciuto is a fan-favorite. Her role as a forensic scientist is easily in the top three most popular characters in the history of the CBS series, including spinoffs.
Perrette left the series back in 2018. However, just recently, some of the decision-makers at the network were asked if her iconic character could return. Moreover, could it be for anything from a cameo to her own spinoff? Here is what they had to say.

Pauley Perrette left her role as the punky, ultra-intelligent forensic scientist wiz Abby Sciuto at the end of NCIS Season 15? Is there any chance she could return? Maybe.
According to a recent Deadline interview with CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach, as well as CBS Studios President David Stapf about this possibility.

NCIS over the years has been through numerous cast changes. In fact, no one on the cast in its 21st season was a series regular for its first. But the actor who has been there the longest is Sean Murray, who first played Timothy McGee (he was a probie!) in Season 1, Episode 7 “Sub Rosa.” But he only recurred throughout the first season, and his journey to becoming a series regular was “an interesting one,” as he tells TV Insider. Murray’s stepfather, Donald Bellisario, created NCIS and Murray had worked with him on Jag. (NCIS is a spinoff of Jag.) “There was a one-time guest star appearance for a rookie agent. Don asked me if I wanted to do this. It was an interesting character, total rookie, total kind of stumbling over himself, trying to learn ...

It has been over two decades since NCIS first aired on television and somehow, it has managed to stay a fan-favorite despite the series being in its twenty-first season. NCIS began with Mark Harmon playing the role of Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs and the actor remained a part of the show up until the nineteenth season before bidding the role and the show adieu.
Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs
Throughout his time on NCIS, Mark Harmon received a lot of recognition for his work. He was nominated for a few awards and even took home the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Crime Drama TV Actor in 2017. However, Mark Harmon almost missed out on all of this because the actor almost turned down the role!

NCIS gave fans memorable characters they’ll remember forever — but many of those fan favorites are known for their deaths. The show’s creators recently discussed the characters, actors, and storylines they worked with over the years. And they discussed one “shocking” death that came after the actor complained of long hours on set.
‘NCIS’ creators said actor Sasha Alexander didn’t want to work long, grueling hours
NCIS creators discussed the death of Sasha Alexander’s character, Caitlin Todd. Alexander appeared in the first two seasons of the series, but she was shot in the head in the season 2 finale by Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ archnemesis Ari Haswari.
Peter Golden, the former head of CBS casting, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about Alexander. “We were only able to make a deal with Sasha for two seasons,” he said. “She decided she wanted to move on to other things, and that...

NCIS has been on the air since 2003. In 2023, the directors, executive producers, and creators got together to discuss the long-lasting police procedural television series that fans know and love — and the truth about their personalities came out. One director said that co-creator Don Bellisario was so “volatile” that he almost didn’t work with him in NCIS.
Director James Whitmore said he initially refused to work with co-creator Don Bellisario on ‘NCIS’
NCIS executive producers and directors have a lot of opinions about co-creator Don Bellisario. Bellisario shaped the show into what it is today, and he was able to make tough decisions to create a riveting series with memorable characters. While the show couldn’t exist without Bellisario, he was known for being notoriously hard to work with. Director James Whitmore told The Hollywood Reporter that Bellisario’s “volatile” personality nearly made him not want to work on NCIS.

NCIS fans eagerly await updates regarding season 21. While the Writers Guild of America strike paused the new season, writers are back in action to continue the story. However, one executive producer admits that he’s been “threatening to leave” the series for years. Here’s why.
Executive producer Charles Floyd Johnson says he was ‘threatening to leave’ ‘NCIS’ for years
NCIS has had numerous creators through the years, and executive producer Charles Floyd Johnson admitted that he was “threatening to leave” the series for years.
“I have been threatening to leave the show for a couple of years myself,” Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter. “A lot of people, including me, got force majeure’d this year, so my contract is ended. Everybody’s concerned about budgets and all this crazy stuff, so I may be just one of the casualties since I’ve been threatening to leave. So, I’m just waiting to see.

Mark Harmon scored big when he ended up being cast in the hugely successful television series NCIS. Like most long-running television shows, NCIS experienced significant change and growth during its years on air. One of those changes included actually writing scripts for the show as it went on.

Harmon has been a part of NCIS since its inception. His name was floated around with a list of other A-listers at the time like Harrison Ford and Kevin Bacon. But Harmon was the actor that NCIS made a serious effort in trying to recruit. After casting director Susan Bluestein suggested Harmon, however, others behind the show figured he’d pass on the series.

Who knew that a Jag spinoff about investigating naval crimes would become one of the most popular and long-running shows on CBS? NCIS premiered in September 2003 and has been going strong ever since. However, the show has seen some big changes over the years, including several high-profile cast departures, as well as a subtle name change. Early on, NCIS had a slightly different title to avoid confusion with another popular show on the network.

The shock death of a major character left NCIS fans reeling – and wondering why the show’s writers would kill off Agent Todd. In the past, Alexander has said that her departure was due to the show’s grueling workload. Once the show’s writers knew she wanted to leave, they decided to give her the most dramatic exit possible, insiders explained to The Hollywood Reporter in a recent oral history of the show.

‘NCIS’ Creators Considered a Lot of A-list Actor to Play Gibbs — From Alec Baldwin to Patrick Swayze
Fans of NCIS eagerly await season 21 updates, as we can’t wait to find out when the beloved series returns. Unfortunately, we don’t anticipate Mark Harmon’s character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, appearing. Harmon played Gibbs for 19 seasons before calling it quits. And before Harmon got the job, NCIS creators considered A-list stars to play Gibbs.

Mark Harmon wasn’t always who NCIS creators wanted to play Leroy Jethro Gibbs. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that other A-list stars were considered for the role.
Charles Floyd Johnson, executive producer for Jag and NCIS, spoke about the casting challenges production initially faced. “I know Harrison Ford was a name that everybody thought about for Gibbs because he was so perfect,” Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter. “But, I don’t think it ever got further than,...

NCIS fans can’t wait to hear more about season 21 — but we’ll be missing one of the most significant characters from the show. David McCallum played medical examiner Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard for 20 seasons, even outlasting Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Before McCallum was cast in the series, serious disagreements existed about him joining the crew. Here’s what a series director said about threatening to cancel NCIS over McCallum.
‘NCIS’ creators were ready to cancel the show if Ducky actor David McCallum wasn’t cast
NCIS fans can’t imagine the series without David McCallum playing Ducky Mallard. While it doesn’t seem like anyone else could play the medical examiner-turned-historian, there was a lot of disagreement regarding McCallum’s casting at the start of the series.

For two decades, NCIS has been keeping viewers entertained with its signature mix of humor and high-stakes drama. The CBS series about a team of agents with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service premiered in 2023 and is heading into its 21st season (just as soon as the cast can get back to work). It’s also spawned multiple spinoffs, including a first-ever international version, NCIS: Sydney, debuting later this year. But the show – and by extension, the entire NCIS universe – could have looked very different if the series creators initially envisioned came to fruition.

David McCallum, the Scottish actor who portrayed the enigmatic Russian-born U.S. secret agent Illya Kuryakin on The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and the chief medical examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard on NCIS, died Monday. He was 90.
McCallum died of natural causes surrounded by family at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, a spokesperson for CBS announced.
McCallum also starred opposite Joanna Lumley for four seasons on the 1979-82 British sci-fi series Sapphire & Steel (she was Sapphire, he was Steel) — a show many see as a precursor to The X-Files — and played a British prisoner of war on the acclaimed 1972-74 BBC drama Colditz.
McCallum was married to British actress Jill Ireland from May 1957 until she left him for brawny actor Charles Bronson a decade later. McCallum rebounded quite nicely, though, quickly marrying model Katherine Carpenter in 1967, and his wife of 56 years survives him.

It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Mark Harmon as Agent Gibbs in the iconic series NCIS. He’s not just a character on the show; he’s become the very face of the franchise.
However, the journey to this casting was far from straightforward. Believe it or not, Harmon wasn’t even in the original casting plans conceived by NCIS creator Don Bellisario.

Harmon and his portrayal of Leroy Jethro Gibbs have become so intertwined that it’s hard to envision one without the other. The actor’s portrayal has been so compelling that he’s essentially become the face of the NCIS franchise, an unforgettable imprint in its history.

Although NCIS was well-liked from the get-go, not even an elite investigation could have foreseen the show becoming a hit that would span decades and launch a franchise.
It began in spring 2003 as a backdoor pilot for CBS’ sturdy military-law procedural Jag. Co-created by Jag mastermind Donald P. Bellisario (Magnum, P.I., Quantum Leap) and Don McGill (Numbers, CSI), NCIS follows special agents from D.C.’s Naval Criminal Investigative Service, led by Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The show’s initial core cast included Michael Weatherly (Tony Dinozzo), Sasha Alexander (Caitlin Todd), Pauley Perrette (Abby Sciuto) and David McCallum (Ducky Mallard). Twenty years later, the series continues to thrive, as it stands as CBS’ No. 1 broadcast drama for five straight seasons and has launched four spinoffs, with the first international entry, NCIS: Sydney, debuting this fall on the network.

Exclusive: Magnum P.I.‘s reprieve at NBC is coming to an end. The network has opted not to order additional episodes beyond the 20-episode fifth season picked up last year.
NBC is expected to mount a sizable campaign for the remaining 10 episodes, marketing them as the series’ final chapter.
The reboot starring Jay Hernandez was not in need of a renewal decision at the time of NBC’s upfront last month because its 20-episode Season 5 had been split into two, with the first half airing this midseason and the second half slated for midseason 2024
However, the options on the cast are up June 30, which forced the issue now. NBC had three scenarios, to pick up a sixth season, to extend the options on the cast, or to release the actors and end the series. Networks have been very conservative...

NCIS’s Sean Murray recalled his stepsister Troian Bellisario “acting a little weird” around him when they first met.
The two became stepsiblings when Murray’s mother, Vivienne Murray, married the Pretty Little Liar star’s producer and screenwriter father, Donald P Bellisario, in 1998.
“[Bellisario] was acting a little weird around me when she first knew me,” Murray told Entertainment Weekly in a new interview.
“She then told me years later it was because when she was a kid, she had seen Hocus Pocus and had a crush on me and she was trying to work that out.”
Murray, 45, appeared in the original 1993 fantasy comedy film alongside Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, when he was 14. Bellisario was eight at the time.
His role as Thackery Binx, the human boy-turned-black cat by the three Sanderson sisters, made him a first-time crush for a certain set of millennials.
