TORONTO -- The Canadian government on Thursday promoted Tom Perlmutter to government film commissioner and chairman of the National Film Board of Canada.
Perlmutter, who joined Canada's public filmmaker in 2001 as director general of English programming after a career as a filmmaker and producer, replaces the outgoing Jacques Bensimon as head of the NFB.
The NFB has earned 12 Academy Awards from 69 nominations for its documentary, animation and feature film output.
Perlmutter will take on his new position June 11.

TORONTO -- The National Film Board of Canada and the Japan Broadcasting Corp. (NHK) on Wednesday signed the first-ever agreement to co-produce TV programming and share expertise on high-definition video. NFB chairman Jacques Bensimon signed the agreement in Tokyo with NHK president Katsuji Ebisawa. "Our agreement with NHK establishes for the NFB a relationship with one of the world's largest and most creative public service broadcasting organizations," Bensimon said. "It allows us to learn from their expertise and make it available to the Canadian production industry."...
