Here’s a neat tidbit: the original “Assassin’s Creed” was originally supposed to have a co-op mode, but it was eventually cut from the game.
“Before we knew about the Desmond story and Animus link, we had a huge co-op component in there,” mission director Phillipe Bergeron told Oxm. It’s unclear whether the co-op mode included any kind of player-vs-player interactions, like the multiplayer modes in “Assassins Creed: Brotherhood,” but it definitely caused problems for the game’s sprawling sci-fi narrative.
“For us it was really part of the single-player experience, to have in-and-out co-op, and in the end we never thought it made sense in the storyline that we had for the Animus,” he explained. “There was no way to reconcile having multiplayer or co-op in an ancestor’s memories. Your ancestor lived his life in a certain way, so assuming you had branching storylines,...

A recent interview with Ubisoft‘s Philippe Bergeron regarding Assassin’s Creed III has revealed the omission of a feature from last years’ Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, that being the tower defense-based gameplay sections.
Bergeron said that the feature, which was mostly optional in Revelations, “wasn’t flying any more”, and that the development team wanted to give the series a fresh start in terms of gameplay. He went onto say that they wanted to keep what worked from previous games as well as address various issues that have plagued the series in the past.
Seeing how the tower defense system was a commonly criticized feature of Revelations by reviewers, this is probably a wise move. It will be interesting to see what new gameplay mechanics replace it, especially if the ship battle gameplay shown at E3 is any indication.
Assassin’s Creed III is scheduled for an October 30th release.

Computer-generated motion picture animation from “Vertigo” to “Toy Story” to the 3D spectacles of today will be explored during “The Development of the Digital Animator,” the latest installment of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Marc Davis Celebration of Animation, on Monday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Several pioneers of digital animation will revisit the long path from laboratory to cineplex during a panel moderated by animator and historian Tom Sito.
When “Toy Story” burst onto the scene in 1995, computer-generated imagery was, for many, a bold new technique in animation. However, its lengthy and meticulous development can be traced back to its first public exposure with the mesmerizing title sequence for “Vertigo” (1958). Of equal importance to the technical developments were the influential animators and designers who devised artistic uses for engineering advances.
Scheduled panelists include:
Rebecca Allen, an experimental filmmaker...

Earlier this morning, the White House released Barack Obama’s long-form birth certificate, which includes obscure B-sides like “Hospital Address (Full)” and “Mother’s Age.” The document’s existence and dissemination could have been a death knell to the Birther movement, if the Birther movement was informed by such things as documents and their existence. Nay—America’s most resilient conspiracy theorists aren’t going to let a thing like reality stand in the way of their suspicions. Politico’s Ben “Who?” Smith reports: “Orly Taitz, once called ‘Queen of the birthers’ and who was responsible for a number of lawsuits, is verifying the document’s authenticity and now believes that the president is using a false Social Security number.” Some other guy who we’ve never ever heard of, Phil Berg, “now believes that Obama was adopted by his Indonesian father and lost his U.S. citizenship.” If Taitz...
