Filmed in 1959 but not released until Aip picked it up in ’62, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die is a weird little treasure that deserved to be saved from the wreckage. It surpasses all yardsticks of measurement such as taste or talent, and instead floats to the surface on sheer strangeness and a stringent commitment to sleaze. Man cannot live on refinement alone.
Released in May after Aip purchased it and thrown to the wolves on a double feature with Invasion of the Star Creatures, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die (Aka The Head That Wouldn’t Die) came and went like the patrons at a Dusk to Dawn bill by the local drive-in. Mass production on the public domain line ensured faded memories and dimmed shocks until Mystery Science Theater 3000 gave it new life. Regardless of how you’ve come to it, Brain still retains the title of best...

On second thought, Amazon is cutting Zelda Fitzgerald’s story short. The streaming service is reversing its Season 2 renewal of Z: The Beginning of Everything, instead cancelling the Christina Ricci series.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the decision to cut bait on the period drama comes as the streaming service looks to reduce spending on original programming in 2018. A writers’ room had previously been opened for Season 2, with a reported $7 million already spent on preproduction.

Often regarded as the pinnacle of the franchise, Super Castlevania IV is the classic tale of vampire hunter Simon Belmont stalking Transylvania’s dark and undead overlord. As well as being infinitely playable, Super Castlevania IV is renowned for its beautiful soundtrack featuring compositions and arrangements by the Konami Kukeiha Club that were well beyond anything heard on a Nintendo system before. With Mondo pressing the 16-bit sounds to 180-gram vinyl, the label sought out French visual artist JenoLab to create a cover art that packs more bite than Dracula himself.
With a catalogue of delicious digital dreamscapes under the belt, it was only a matter of time before JenoLab would be headhunted for a cover art contract.
“Mondo sent me an e-mail after finding my art portfolio on the internet” JenoLab explains. “They asked me if I would be interested in illustrating the score for Super Castlevania IV, to which I agreed.

Remember this lot popping up in Quantum Leap? They're our pick of the best guest performances in the time travel show...
Once again, we’re celebrating great guest performances in one of our favourite shows. We’re defining a guest appearance as an actor who plays a particular character no more than twice over the run of the show. There’s a bit more competition for the list for this show than most – since Quantum Leap only had two regular cast members and nearly every other actor on the show appeared only once!

In 2015, the body of 7-year-old Seth Johnson was found on a mattress with vomit stains inside his parents’ Plymouth, Minnesota, home. A medical examiner determined that Seth succumbed to sepsis, which ravaged his emaciated body for several weeks after his appendix ruptured.
Last month, child neglect charges were filed against Timothy and Sarah Johnson, who adopted Seth in 2010 when he was 3. This week, the Johnsons were no-shows for a bail hearing in Minnesota’s Hennepin County. Why? Police allege they’re halfway around the world in New Zealand, where they’ve been for weeks.
Here are five things to know about the case.

Canadian sci-fi series Travelers presents a genuinely fresh and fascinating vision of time travel, and boasts a strong cast...

Television’s love affair with time travel goes back a long way. Naturally, Doctor Who was one of the early proponents of the genre and since then there have been many successful (and many less so) series bringing time travel to the small screen. Quantum Leap mixed science with humour, drama and humanity, Continuum brought some genuinely intelligent ideas and Legends Of Tomorrow has thrown a whole lot of heroes into a mainstream tale of time travel and derring-do.
Over the past twelve months, time travel has been something of a go-to for TV schedules with Timeless, Frequency and mini-series 11.22.63 all coming up with something fresh to say. One show that seems...

A 1997 episode of Pokemon contains an unexpected homage to Ray Bradbury's The Fog Horn - the loose basis for a pivotal 50s monster movie.
There's a certain pleasure in spotting pop culture references in animated shows aimed at kids, whether it's unmistakeable allusions to Goodfellas in Animaniacs or The dude from The Big Lebowski showing up in an episode of Powerpuff Girls. An early episode of the animated TV series Pokemon, meanwhile, took the unusual step of spending a large chunk of its duration on paying homage to one of America's most distinguished genre writers.

The 32-year-old reality star posted a before and after photo of herself that showcased her body transformation in a big way. The first pic was of her in a white strapless dress at the Hollywood premiere of House Bunny in August 2008. After months of mouth-watering trailers and backdoor stage-setting, "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" is finally upon us. The series, which pulls characters from "Arrow" and "The Flash" and sets them adrift in time, premieres this Thursday on the CW.
Moviefone recently screened the two-part pilot and -– spoiler alert -– it's tremendously fun.
Understandably, there are a lot of moving parts. Not only must "Legends" introduce a brand new protagonist in time master Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), but the series also has to show him wrangle together a large group of colorful heroes and villains from the CW's other comic book shows. The premiere does a great job of weaving in each new character without ever slowing down the narrative, but there is much to digest.
How does the whole time travel thing work exactly? Does "Legends" feel more like "The Flash" or "Arrow"? And what about guest stars -– are there any of them?...

With the holidays finally upon us, the home entertainment releases are starting to slow down a bit. Thankfully, the good folks at Scream Factory have us genre fans’ backs though, as they’ve got two great Blu-rays coming out this Tuesday to tide us over for a bit: The Brain That Wouldn’t Die and Nightmares (a film I loved as a kid).
Also arriving on Blu-ray and DVD this week are the box sets for Defiance: Season Three and Dominion: Season Two, as well as the fantasy actioner, Dragon Blade.
The Brain That Wouldn’t Die (Scream Factory, Blu-ray)
Strangely relevant in today's ethically challenged world, this movie presents a truly psycho surgery case and is "one of the great sci-fi sleaze classics" (Starlog).
When Dr. Bill Cortner loses his sweetheart, Jan, in a car accident, he refuses to give up hope for her life. Scooping up her decapitated head,...

Chicago Fire‘s Casey and Dawson have been reunited for nine episodes now, and yet, he’s failed to put a ring (back) on it. So why haven’t the formerly engaged firefighters reclaimed their old relationship status?
According to star Jesse Spencer, a re-proposal is simply unnecessary after everything the pair has been through.

“In their hearts and minds, they are already married,” the actor explains. “They’re together. I don’t see them breaking up. I, as Jesse, would be traumatized if they had to break up at this point.

Forget your 'Jan in the Pan' jokes and all those 'thing in the closet' remarks about gay subtext.
