Hello, everyone! As we get ready to head into December, we have one last round of home media releases for this month on tap first. If you haven’t had a chance to check out James Wan’s Malignant yet, Warner Bros. is releasing it on both Blu-ray and DVD, and A24 is finally bringing Saint Maud home this Tuesday, too. Both Summer of 84 and Ticks are getting the 4K treatment, and Severin Films is showing some love to Ruggero Deodato’s Raiders of Atlantis as well.
Other titles being released on November 30th include Wild Indian and The Last Matinee.
Malignant
“Malignant” marks director James Wan’s return to his roots with this new original horror thriller. In the film, a woman is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities.

Beloved movie makeup artist and Oscar winner Rick Baker will be retiring soon. In an interview with 89.3 Kpcc's The Frame (via Slashfilm), Baker announced his upcoming exit from major work in the film industry and the auction of some of his various film creations from over the years. "I said the time is right, I am 64 years old, and the business is crazy right now," Baker said. "I like to do things right, and they wanted cheap and fast. That is not what I want to do." "I like to do things right, and they wanted cheap and fast. That is not what I want to do," he added. "So I just decided it is basically time to get out. I would consider designing and consulting on something, but I don't think I will have a huge working studio anymore." Baker teamed up with The Prop Store to auction off...

A Planet Fury-approved selection of notable genre DVD releases for the month of January.
Lightning Bug (2004) Image Entertainment Blu-ray and DVD Available Now
Effects guru Robert Hall’s semi-autobiographical film about a small town teen (Reaper's Bret Harrison) who has aspirations to become a special effects artist. An opportunity to manage the town’s local haunted house is thwarted by his alcoholic stepfather and the staunchly religious views of the surrounding population. The solid supporting cast includes That 70’s Show’s Laura Prepon, Hellraiser’s Ashely Lawrence and Kevin Gage. Written and directed by Hall, it’s an affectionate coming-of-age drama that works in spite of an uneven narrative that falls apart in the final half hour. Hopefully this new extended cut will remedy the scripting problems of the original release.
Special Features include:
* Never-before-released extended cut of the film.
* Making-of Featurette
* Audio commentaries with the writer/director and cast.

Octaman is a pretty terrible movie. I know this better than anyone; yet, I love every single second of it despite its numerous shortcomings. I love the monster, the baby monsters, you name it. Some may think I'm nuts, but I cannot help myself.
Finally, after decades of waiting, the film is getting an official DVD release from Bayview Entertainment/Widowmaker.
Octaman is the sought after (mainly by maniacs like myself) 1972 cult classic from director Harry Essex (Creature from the Black Lagoon) and comes to DVD in a newly remastered from 35mm widescreen edition. It features special effects makeup by future Academy Award winner Rick Baker (An American Werewolf in London) and stars Kerwin Matthews (The 7th Voyage of Sinbad), Jeff Morrow (This Island Earth), and Pier Angeli (Battle of the Bulge). The DVD has original trailers, video interview, and a Retromedia Drive-In wrap-around. The DVD also includes a bonus...

For all our MoreHorror readers recovering from the tryptophan induced stupor we call Thanksgiving, boy do we have a treat for you. What better way to celebrate the recent release of the Evil Dead II: 25th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray than to talk to the man behind the special effects and some of the most amazing visuals in horror movie history: the legendary Greg Nicotero.
If you've seen little productions like Day of the Dead, In the Mouth of Madness, From Dusk 'Til Dawn, Scream, The Cell, Masters of Horror, The Mist and most recently The Walking Dead than you are very familiar with his enormous body of work. I was fortunate enough to chat with the man who literally changed the face of horror before he had to run off to celebrate turkey day.

Doug Beswick’s career, like many creature makers, began with a love and practice of Stop Motion Animation. My understanding is that he met Rick Baker when they both worked at Cascade Studios (most famous for doing the claymation for the series Gumby & Pokey) and later had joined Rick’s crew as a mechanical, animatronics designer. I don’t know the details of how and why Doug decided to open his own shop, but his facility was in a small, industrial park, north east of the San Fernando Valley in Sunland. Prior to my arrival, Doug had gained some notoriety with a couple of projects. The first was Terminator in which, Beswick had built and animated the endoskeleton miniature for the few full body shots of the robot walking. The second was a Disney live action film entitled My Science Project. For that film, Rick and Doug had teamed up to build an impressive, miniature...
