Based on the ’70s and ’80s scripted dramedy “The Love Boat,” “The Real Love Boat” puts singles on a luxury cruise through the Mediterranean to look for love amongst destination dates, challenges and surprise new singles. The 2022-23 TV season has its first casualty.
CBS’ dating show The Real Love Boat has been pulled from the broadcast network after four episodes. It will finish out its season on Paramount+.
The move comes after the show, an unscripted spin on the 1970s-’80s romance/comedy anthology, pulled in soft ratings numbers for its first four episodes. The Real Love Boat is CBS’ least watched primetime series of the fall, averaging a little under 1.9 million same-day viewers and a slim 0.24 rating in the key ad demographic of adults 18-49. Delayed viewing hasn’t helped much: After a week of DVR and on-demand viewing (as measured by Nielsen), the first two episodes rose to just 2.59 million viewers and a 0.3 among adults 18-49.
Paramount+ also streams the four episodes that aired on CBS, as well as the original scripted series.

Paolo Arrigo was giving the producers behind CBS’ “The Real Love Boat” a tour of the Princess Cruises ship he oversees when the creative team fell in love with the captain. They then asked Princess if they could borrow Arrigo for a few weeks — and that’s how, in addition to being a real-life ship captain, he now plays one on TV.
“We were scouting the ship and met Captain Paolo, who was the designated captain of the ship at that time,” executive producer Jay Bienstock tells Variety. “When we met him, we thought, ‘Wow, you are so charming and so interesting. We’d love to have you be on the show, as opposed to being the captain while we’re filming.’ And then Princess graciously gave him to us.”

Exclusive: CBS won’t be heading back into the Panamanian jungle.
Deadline understands that celebrity-competition series Beyond the Edge has been canceled after one season.
The show, which premiered in March 2022 and ran through May, followed Survivor and was in a slot that previously featured Tough as Nails and The Amazing Race, but it struggled to break out.
TV Series Cancellations 2022: Photo Gallery
The series featured nine celebrities who traded their worlds of luxury to live in the dangerous jungles of Panama for two weeks — testing whether they have the grit to withstand torrential downpours, scorching heat and deadly wildlife. There wasn’t any judges or eliminations – instead, each celebrity had to rely on their inner fortitude, physical ability and courage and have faith in their teammates to endure in the wild.
For each day they lasted and every challenge they won with their team, the celebrities raised more money for their charities.

Discovery+’s upcoming reality dating series “Naked and Afraid of Love” strips away some of the “comforts of modern dating” — mainly clothes — in order to give eight single men and eight single women a chance to find romance in the nude with just the bare necessities in their island paradise setup. And, no, that did not include soap, toothpaste, deodorant or any other personal-hygiene products.
“In terms of dating, if somebody is undesirable to somebody else, it doesn’t really lend itself to love, right?” “Naked and Afraid of Love” executive producer Jay Bienstock told reporters during a virtual panel for the show at the Television Critics Association’s press tour Monday. “So we did a very, very fast sort of like– they got to clean off in the water because the water was there and they would actually be able to just sort of rinse their mouths out real fast.

Discovery Channel is entering the dating game with series orders for three shows that blend romance with nature, entertainment and adventure, including “Naked and Afraid of Love,” “Mating Season” and “Mountain Love,” TheWrap has learned exclusively.
The trio of series will be available across Discovery, Inc. platforms later this year.
Here’s the official description for “Naked and Afraid of Love”:
Today, dating has become filtered – through the clothes we wear, jobs we have, and lives we share on social media. But what if it was all stripped away — the filters, dating apps and curated personas — leaving room for only our most primal wants and needs, and exposing who we really are in the process? Would we forge stronger connections? Discovery seeks to answer these questions and more in “Naked and Afraid of Love,” a groundbreaking take on modern dating that is the ultimate blend of survival and romance unlike anything viewers have seen.

Amazon has canceled canine competition series The Pack after one season.
The streamer has decided against renewing the series, which was hosted by Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn and her dog Lucy, for a second season.
It comes after the ten-part series debuted in November.
People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) condemned the show, saying that “animals are individuals – not props for movies and TV shows” but an Amazon spokeswoman said that the charity’s statement did not influence the cancelation decision.
The show, which was described as The Amazing Race with dogs, was produced by eOne-owned Naked and Afraid producer Renegade 83 and Amazon Studios.
It featured twelve teams of dogs and their humans on an epic adventure across multiple continents. In each locale, the human and dog duos went through a series of challenges, designed with a team of accredited veterinarians and certified dog experts that also...

Amazon Prime Video has canceled humans-and-their-dogs competition “The Pack” after just one season, TheWrap has learned. The “Amazing Race”-style series was hosted by Olympian Lindsey Vonn (and her dog).
Last month, TheWrap obtained and published editing room-floor footage of dogs being put into seemingly dangerous situations. PETA condemned the footage in a statement to TheWrap.
“Video footage of a dog dangling in midair from someone’s harness and paddling in a futile effort to gain his footing before getting swung into a rock face shows exactly where producers’ priorities lay for ‘The Pack,'” PETA wrote to us. “It seems that this clip ended up on the cutting room floor because producers knew that the dog was not enthusiastic and happy, but distressed. This senior dog should be curled up on a sofa, not thrown into one dangerous situation after another for the sake of ratings. No dog would...

On a beautiful, sun-lit day in Costa Rica, new reality show contestants step into harnesses and prepare to rappel down a waterfall, with their teammate strapped to them. But should their teammate be too nervous to partake in the challenge, they will be allowed to perform an alternate instead because health and safety, including mental health and stress levels, come first over competition. This isn’t any reality show, after all, it is Amazon Prime Video’s “The Pack” and those teammates are four-legged and furry.
Hosted by Lindsey Vonn (and her dog Lucy), “The Pack” travels 12 teams, each consisting of one human and one dog, to nine different countries over 10 episodes. In each, they perform inspiring but at times nail-biting challenges that involve common canine behaviors and tricks such as digging, tugging and pulling, to more specialized skills including scent work, as well as elements that require the humans...

Apt to its title, the promo gives introduction to how the game will be played, and where it will take place. 13 people are transported to a remote place in Louisiana Bayou which is deemed the most haunted place in the U.S. as well as the place where Voodoo is practiced largely. The contestants only know that they will be dropped into a dark wood to face their fears but they have no idea that they are being watched. The CW make an introduction to their new reality show, "13: Fear is Real" by releasing a clip from one of the episodes. Using a night vision camera, the clip shows Ted trying to look for Leah in the dark and eventually hears her screaming asking for help in the distance.
To be premiered on January 7, "13: Fear is Real" is a new show designed to evoke a person's deepest fear. Pitted against each other in situations straight from the horror movies, the 13 will face shocking surprises, psychological scares and lots of "beware of the dark" moments, all designed by a "mastermind" of terror.
In addition to frightening them, he'll also entice individuals to work in concert with him and against the others, creating a situation in which the 13 will not only look over their shoulders but will also never be certain who is real before them.

CBS is adding divorce and crime to its reality development slate.
The network has greenlighted two pilots: Splitsville, executive produced by Jamie Kennedy, and an untitled project from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition creator/executive producer Tom Forman.
Splitsville, described as The War of the Roses meets Let's Make a Deal, is a game show for divorcing couples who battle it out for their belongings in a series of competitive challenges.
The project, from Magic Molehill Prods., is executive produced by Kennedy, Jay Bienstock and Jeffrey Kramer.
Forman's project features a team of law enforcement officials helping people who have been victims of a crime. The pilot reunites Forman with CBS, where he most recently exec produced Kid Nation.
CBS tackled similar issues four years ago when it teamed with Mark Burnett for Recovery, a reality project in which a team of military and law enforcement veterans set out to find kidnapped children.
The pickup of the two pilots comes on the heels of CBS' order of three new reality series last month -- Katalyst Films' Game Show in My Head and the biweekly celebrity talent contest Secret Talents of the Stars.
