Amazon Studios brings the story of Marie Curie to the screen with Radioactive starring Oscar-nominated actress Rosamund Pike as the pioneering scientist.
Directed by Marjane Satrapi (Persepolis) and written by Jack Thorne, Radioactive is based on the 2010 graphic novel Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie: A Tale of Love and Fallout by Lauren Redniss. The film adaptation follows Curie’s life and the legacy of scientific breakthroughs. At the same time, the story tells the darker consequences that came about after her amazing work.
Curie married fellow scientist Pierre Curie (Sam Riley) who went on to raise two daughters and change the face of science forever by jointly winning the Nobel for the discovery of radium in 1903. After the death of her husband, Curie continues her research and invites scandal when she has an affair with another prominent scientist, Paul Langevin (Aneurin Barnard). A coming of age story can take a number of routes when doing its thing. Some opt to really get raunchy, relying on sex to sell. Others focus on the emotional journey of a teenager. Few are able to meld the two cohesively, since there’s usually a high art/low art divide that gets in the way. This week, Yes God Yes is the kind of coming of age movie that manages to thread that needle. Now, there are a handful of bumps along the way, as well as an inconsistent tone, but the work of Natalia Dyer, as well as the genuine heart on display, rules the day. The film is a mix of comedy and drama, set in the early 2000s. Sixteen-year-old Alice (Dyer) has always been a good Catholic girl in the Midwest, but that’s about to change. When an innocent AOL chat room excursion accidentally turns racy,...

Vertical Entertainment is proud to present Yes, God, Yes, the semi-autobiographical debut from filmmaker Karen Maine, co-writer of Obvious Child. Yes, God, Yes is a fresh, fun look at what solo explorations of sexuality can look like for a girl in the Midwest. Featuring a talented roster of young actors and comedy veterans, toplined by the enormously appealing Natalia Dyer (Stranger Things), the film premiered at the 2019 SXSW Film Festival, where it was awarded a Special Jury Prize for Best Ensemble. Vertical Entertainment will premiere the film in Virtual Cinemas and select drive-ins on Friday, July 24, and the film will launch on digital and VOD platforms on Tuesday, July 28.

"His spirit moved each of you to sign up for this retreat." Vertical Entertainment has released a second, full-length trailer for the coming-of-age, sexual awakening comedy called Yes, God, Yes, which originally premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last year. This semi-autobiographical film is described as "a fresh, fun look at what solo explorations of sexuality can look like for a girl in the Midwest." Alice, a devout Catholic teen in the early 2000s, discovers her sexuality and the pleasures of masturbation, and struggles to suppress her new urges in the face of eternal damnation. Starring Natalia Dyer (from "Stranger Things") as Alice, joined by Timothy Simons, Susan Blackwell, Alisha Boe, Donna Lynne Champlin, plus Wolfgang Novogratz. Out of all the indie sex comedies coming up this year, this looks like the best one. Kinky and smart, and also a fun guide for rejecting the ridiculousness of religion. This might actually be worth a watch.

Although we may be past the heyday of studio sex comedies, and comedies in general when it comes to Hollywood output, the indie film world is picking up the slack and next month will bring a highly-acclaimed one. Stranger Things star Natalia Dyer is breaking out of the family-friendly Netflix mold for Yes, God, Yes. Directed by Karen Maine (co-writer of Obvious Child), the semi-autobiographical debut explores sexuality for one girl growing up in the Midwest. Following a premiere at last year’s SXSW, where it won a Special Jury Prize for Best Ensemble, the first full trailer has arrived.
John Fink said in our SXSW review, “Similar to last year’s inclusive comedy Blockers–which proved teen girls deserve their own kind of high school sex comedy like the boys have enjoyed for years–Yes, God, Yes continues to evolve the genre while remaining completely grounded in its complexities and contradictions.

"You have a new perspective." Samuel Goldwyn Films has debuted an official trailer for an odd indie film titled Auggie, the feature directorial debut of English actor / filmmaker Matt Kane. This premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival this year, and also played at the Newport Beach, Greenwich, and Provincetown Film Festivals. From the looks of it, this seems like another kooky film much like Lars and the Real Girl about a man who falls in love with a fake woman. In Auggie, Richard Kind plays Felix Greystone, who is forced into early retirement and falls in love with an augmented reality companion, damaging his relationship with his wife and daughter. The cast includes Christen Harper as Auggie, plus Larisa Oleynik, Christine Donlon, Susan Blackwell, Steven M. Robertson, and James C. Victor. This seems way more sad and depressing than expected, but it's supposed to be a cautionary tale about technology and our addiction to it.

Exclusive: Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired U.S. rights to the Richard Kind sci-fi movie Auggie from Myriad Pictures.
Directed and written by Matt Kane and co-written and produced by Marc Underhill of Thundercane Productions, Auggie follows early retiree Felix Greystone (Kind) who falls in love with an augmented reality companion, to the detriment of his relationship with his wife and daughter.
At his “early retirement” party, Felix is given a pre-release version of an “Auggie,” a pair of augmented reality smart glasses that project a perfectly human companion onto his world. When Felix’s wife Anne gets a promotion and his daughter Grace gets serious with her boyfriend, Felix suddenly feels very alone. He opens up to his new companion and is recognized and appreciated by her, and begins to fall for her.
Larisa Oleynik, Susan Blackwell and newcomer Christen Harper also star.
Auggie made its world premiere at Cinequest Film and Creativity Festival 2019 and later screened as part of the official selection in the Beverly Hills Film Festival and the Newport Beach Film Festival.
Said Kane, “Marc and I are thrilled to be partnering with Samuel Goldwyn Films, a company with deep roots in the world of quality film. We couldn’t think of a better fit to bring this film to audiences in the U.S.”
The deal was negotiated by Ben Feingold from Samuel Goldwyn with Kirk D’Amico from Myriad on behalf of the filmmakers.
Kind’s credits include Spin City, Gotham, American Dad and Amazon’s Red Oaks as well as such movies as Oscar Best Picture winner Ago, Pixar’s Inside Out and the Coen Brothers’ A Serious Man.

What happens when you get Zachary Quinto and his "Margin Call" costar/close friend Susan Blackwell together for a sleepover? Hint: it involves prank calls.
The pair did an interview for Blackwell's Broadway.com segment Side By Side, and it involved a whole lot of adorableness while discussing Quinto's recent adventures, which include "American Horror Story," "Star Trek Into Darkness" and "Sesame Street."
The best moment comes when Blackwell and Quinto prank call Jesse Tyler Ferguson and pretend he has ordered a stripper for his Tie The Knot pop-up shop. Also being pranked is "Smash" actor Christian Borle, who recently appeared in "The Sound of Music Live!"
Later in the interview, Ferguson texts Quinto back. "Was that Cherry Jones?" the "Modern Family" star asks of Quinto's "The Glass Menagerie" Broadway costar.

Most actors would love to forget their embarrassing onstage mishaps. But nine celebrated stars of stage and screen took a walk down memory lane to raise money for The Performing Arts Project at the organization's inaugural gala at Joe's Pub on Sunday night. "The best way to throw yourself into this is to try not to be impressive," says artistic director Jonathan Bernstein, who dreamed up the event's concept with the evening's host Steven Pasquale. Founded in 2011, the Performing Arts Project provides arts training for the next generation of performers and culminates in a three-week summer residency in North Carolina on the Wake Forest University campus. Faculty members include Laura Benanti, Billy Crudup, Brian d'Arcy James, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Gavin Creel, and Susan Blackwell. "It's devoted to making great human beings," says Bernstein. With Title Of Show receiving mostly glowing reviews for its London premiere, I couldn't help but hope that the creative team that took the quirky, meta-musical from Off-Off-Broadway, to Off-Broadway, to Broadway Jeff Bowen, Hunter Bell, Susan Blackwell, Heidi Blickenstaff, Michael Berresse, and Larry Pressgrove are taking a few moments to arrive at the intersection of Now not the past or future, Here exactly where they are, and This whatever it is they're doing to be truly present and enjoy this moment of their lives a little more clearly. All of this brought me around to the cast album for their sophomore show Now. Here. This., which was funded by a highly successful Kickstarter campaign. Living in Houston, I completely missed the premiere of this show however, everything that made Title Of Show so endearing is present and improved upon in the semi-autobiographical musical's cast album that is as entertaining...
