intellectual and entertainment media and talent. He is a co-founder of
AlchemyHouse Productions, Inc., based in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and Los
Angeles, California; the firm also manages national and regional music
acts.
Tom has a deep interest in the pursuit of synergy between artists, technology, and management. His unique insights on the many facets of media creation come from more than 20 years spent working with talent in film, television, live-events, radio, recording, promotions, and the ever-expanding arena of Internet-based media technology.
Tom's career began in Dayton, Ohio at Cox Broadcasting at a very young age, where he worked as a radio technician at WHIO in 1984. He soon transferred to then sister station KFI/KOST in Los Angeles, California, and from 1985 to 1987 produced and engineered public service programming and produced customized syndicated radio shows for broadcast, including Dick Clark's Rock Roll & Remember and Count Down America. Some of Tom's other duties at KFI/KOST included shift/board operations, man-on the street interviews, and commercial and promotional production support.
The opportunity to work in television came in 1987 when Tom was offered the position of broadcast operations technician with WKEF-- Dayton, Ohio's NBC affiliate. This position led to an increased passion for technical production and in 1989, he decided to concentrate on freelance work and consulting. Since then, he has worked in the capacities of grip, gaffer, utility, lighting director, production technician, technical director, cinematographer, sound engineer, and editor. The business aspect of producing and writing emerged as Tom's strengths as he developed a clear understanding of exactly what is required to produce high-quality content. Some of the notable clients he worked for during this period include PriceWeber Marketing, Saatchi & Saatchi, Mead, Proctor & Gamble, NBC, Sea World Ohio, and NCR Corporation and shows such as the NBC Special, Life in the Fat Lane (Utility 1996).
In 1993 Tom was offered an opportunity to return to Los Angeles, where he worked for dick clark productions inc (dcpi). He worked in many capacities with Dick Clark and dcpi, including assistant to the associate producer, production accountant, budget coordinator, production, and staff crew coordinator. Some of his credits include: The Golden Globe Awards, The Academy of Country Music Awards, and Sea World Busch Gardens Party for the Planet. Other production coordinating credits include the national version of The MDA Jerry Lewis Stars Across America (1995), and a line producer (production manager) credit on the pilot-television show, Loveline (1996), which was hosted by Dr. Drew and Adam Corrola on MTV (Stone Stanley Productions).
1997 saw Tom return to freelance work when he signed on as producer and unit production manager on the feature film Irish Whiskey (1998). Later that year, he accepted a full time position at Antioch University McGregor in Yellow Springs, Ohio, where he continues to serve as the university's information coordinator and web developer. Tom received his M.A. in Management from Antioch University in 2003.
Tom balances his responsibilities at Antioch University McGregor with a continuing passion for production and production consulting. This passion is evidenced in his work with AlchemyHouse Productions, an innovative and constantly evolving production company, where Tom continues to strive for a greater degree of synergy in the process of producing new media. His most recent credit is associate producer for the documentary The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil (2006) produced by The Community Solution in Yellow Springs, Ohio. He co-developed and managed the musical act BoomBox, a duet from Muscle Shoals, AL, from September 2006 through 2007.
