The third season of the “Scream” reboot is finally happening — but it’s airing on VH1 instead of it’s original home at MTV. VH1 released the first look trailer today, and announced that the three-night event will kick off on July 8.
From executive producer Queen Latifah, the third season features Academy Award nominee Mary J. Blige, Grammy Award winner Tyga, Cj Wallace (“Notorious”), Keke Palmer (“Akeelah and the Bee”) and model and actress Paris Jackson.
The reboot cast new characters is the classic story of a group of teenagers being targeted by a serial killer in a ghoulish mask and black cloak, wielding a tell-tale bloody knife.

When you associate Drew Barrymore with horror, most of us automatically think about her iconic performance in the opening act of Scream. So it comes as no surprise when we find out that Barrymore will be helping to guide a new, female-focused horror TV series.
It’s called Black Rose Anthology, and it will be a series on The CW consisting of hour-long episodes written and directed by women. Jill Blotevogel (MTV’s Scream: The Series) is writing the pilot.
Deadline reports that the Black Rose Anthology “will explore some of humanity’s deepest fears from a woman’s unique perspective. Classic themes of terror will be tackled via vignettes about guilt, jealousy, repression, paranoia, insanity, sexual obsession and survival through a modern and distinctly feminine lens.”
The show is less likely to be a slasher and more aimed at psychological terror, which is usually much more terrifying. The series is still in development,...

Over the course of his 55 year filmmaking career, John Carpenter has delivered some of the most iconic projects of both the horror and thriller genres. From Halloween and The Fog, to The Thing and Christine – the writer-director has been long-established as a gold-standard creator of cinema. Now, as he settles into his second half-century behind the camera, Carpenter has signed a deal with Universal Cable Productions that will see him bring all that experience, expertise and creativity to bear on the small screen, in two separate projects.
Firstly, Carpenter will develop Tales For A Halloween Night for Syfy. This will be a scripted anthology series based upon Carpenter’s own award-winning graphic novel series of the same name. While it’s confirmed for the Syfy network, a writer has yet to be hired to adapt the novel series for the television project. However, the potential of the show is noteworthy...

His name is synonymous with Halloween, so it's rather fitting that John Carpenter, the master of horror himself, is teaming up with Universal Cable Productions (Ucp) to develop a Tales for a Halloween Night series for Syfy based on his graphic novel anthology of the same name.
In addition to Tales for a Halloween Night, Carpenter's new deal with Ucp includes executive producing other content with Sandy King via their Storm King Productions, including the in-development series Nightside, based on the book series by Simon R. Green and set to be adapted for the screen by Jill Blotevogel (MTV's Scream TV series).

When it comes to genre television series as of late, there are a few shows that get more love than others. And since I finally caught up with the recent season two finale of Scream: The TV Series, I thought now would be the perfect time to tip my hat to this underrated series that not only wears its horror-loving heart so very clearly on its sleeve, but also keeps the mystery-fueled spirit of Wes Craven’s films alive and kicking, all while showcasing a lot of fantastic talent behind the camera as well.
And as much as I adore those first two factors, it’s that final part—the way Scream: The TV Series has utilized some incredible directorial talent—that has made me a staunch supporter of the show, as I’d argue that Scream may the best genre series that most fans have consistently overlooked ever since it debuted last summer.

There’s something we’ve got to talk about before we can talk about the final three episodes of Scream, and that’s about the sad passing of Wes Craven on Sunday, August 30th. There’s a thousand things to say about Wes Craven and what he did for the horror genre, especially in the Scream franchise, and there are plenty of great pieces on the man all across the internet, so I won’t repeat was has already been articulated. We wouldn’t have this show without Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson’s Scream franchise, which is one of the only horror franchises without a single bad installment. As previously reported, TV Line chatted up Scream executive, Jill Blotevogel, and she delivered new, early season 2 spoiler scoops. In this segment, she talked about the possibility of seeing Mr. Branson return. It turns out that Jill would definitely be interested in bringing him back for some interesting scenes with Brooke, and more. Jill stated: "I definitely wanted to keep Mr. Branson on the table. I thought Bobby Campo did such an amazing job taking this character, who could’ve very easily been a write-off as the skanky teacher who sleeps with a student — he ended up being more interesting. I would like to see him in Season 2. He’s definitely not going to be teaching at Lakewood anymore. But his presence would be really interesting. Wanting to see that scene between him and Brooke, a month after the events of the finale — to me, that’s something that would be fascinating.

Recently, TV Line got to talk up Scream's executive producer, Jill Blotevogel, to get some early season 2 teaser spoilers. In this segment, she let us know what Emma will be up to. It turns out that she's going to be more closed off, defensive, stronger, and more. Jill told them: "Going into Season 2, she’s going to be a character with a lot more information. She’s probably going to be more closed-off, more defensive. But she’s also going to be stronger. I think of Sarah Connor, going from Terminator to T2, in that she’s this fresh-faced innocent in the first one, and by the second one — not that we’re going to see Emma doing pull-ups and assembling rifles or anything — she’s a character who’s been through the wringer. Emma’s going to be a little more guarded. Her strength has been tested, and...

MTV's Scream series paid a touching tribute to the late Wes Craven last night in the Us.
A short series of cards reading, "In memory of Wes Craven 1939-2015. Thank you for the screams", was shown ahead of the first season finale.
Executive producer Jill Blotevogel told Entertainment Weekly: "We're all still reeling at the suddenness of this.
"I was just really shaken when I heard the news. He really is one of the greats as a creative person - I won't even say as a titan of the horror drama, because he could do so many things. He was amazing."
Craven passed away at the age of 76 over the weekend, following a long battle with brain cancer.
He directed the Scream film series, on which the MTV television spinoff is based.
Meanwhile, the conclusion to the MTV horror's first season revealed the identity of the masked killer terrorising Lakewood.

“Scream,” the MTV television adaptation of the slasher-horror film series will conclude its 10-episode first season tonight, two days after the death of the movies’ original director, Wes Craven. “He, Kevin Williamson and Bob Weinstein had really shaped these amazing series of movies that people say really rejuvenated the horror genre at a time when it had become very stagnant,” showrunner Jill Blotevogel told TheWrap. “His experience was invaluable in creating the pilot for this show, and in life.” A tribute to the show’s late executive producer will air during tonight’s finale. Despite scepticism from fans of the franchise, MTV's Scream series honours the first rule of remakes: don't eff with the original...
The Scream franchise is deservedly adored by cinemagoers and critics, and widely considered to be one of the best horror films to come out of the back end of the 90s. You can certainly see why, with Kevin Williamson's tack-sharp script packed with zingers, its overall clever subversion of the genre, a sterling central performance from Neve Campbell and an undercurrent of cheeky fun. The third act is still, to this day, a triumphant blend of humour, (literally) knife-edge tension and genuine scares.
Few horror movies have achieved what Scream did. Or, to give it its dues, what Scream 2 also did. The sequel to Wes Craven's original hit could have been a messy affair but it achieved an improbable feat: it was just as fun and spooky as the first.

According to showrunner Jill Blotevogel, the secret is taking the successful elements from the Wes Craven film series and “genetically splicing” them into a structure better suited for television. Where a slasher movie runs on adrenaline from kill to kill, “Scream” the TV show will operate on a deeper central mystery and a healthy dose of teen drama. (It is MTV, after all.

On Sunday night, MTV’s highly anticipated new show Scream made its world premiere at the 2015 Los Angeles Film Festival, two weeks in advance of its small screen debut on June 30th. Right before the big screening, Daily Dead had the chance to briefly speak with some of the cast members, including Bex Taylor-Klaus (who also has recently popped up on both Arrow and iZombie), Amadeus Serafini, and Carlson Young, as well as Jill Blotevogel, who serves as an executive producer and writer on Scream.
Here are some of the highlights of what we learned about MTV and Dimension’s new series:
Jill Blotevogel on being respectful of Wes Craven’s original film that inspired Scream the TV series:

Wes Craven’s 1996 feature Scream garnered critical and commercial acclaim during the time of its release for displaying an awareness of the tropes that had entrenched themselves in slasher movies over the years. The success of the film spawned three sequels, with the last feature, titled Scream 4, coming on 2011.
Now the series is poised to return once again, but on the small screen at MTV. With the adaptation being penned by Harper’s Island and Eureka scribe Jill Blotevogel, the series has Wes Craven onboard as executive producer. The cast includes Alpha House‘s Willa Fitzgerald and Arrow‘s Bex Taylor-Klaus, and the premise is as follows.
What starts as a YouTube video going viral, soon leads to problems for the teenagers of Lakewood and serves as the catalyst for a murder that opens up a window to the town’s troubled past.

A new take on the "Scream" franchise calls for a new take on its iconic Ghostface mask, and that's just what the upcoming MTV series has in store.
Entertainment Weekly shared a first look at the mask that will grace the face of the new, kept-under-wraps-for-now villain on the series, and while it's quite different from the Ghostface that "Scream" fans already know, that's entirely the point.
"The [original] mask is so iconic," explained executive producer Jaime Paglia in an interview with EW. "If you were to have that mask in a television series, but you weren't following any of the characters [from the original], I believe that would be misleading the audience."
Instead, this new mask is its own entity -- while also purposefully calling to mind some other classic horror villains. As executive producer Jill Blotevogel tells EW, in addition to evoking the spirit of the original Ghostface, it's also meant to...

I'll be honest: I always found the original Ghostface mask (based on Edvard Munch's famous "Scream" paintings) a little silly. That said, it fit nicely with the jokey, tongue-in-cheek nature of the original film series. MTV's new small-screen revival of the franchise, however, has gone with a more overtly scary look for the new incarnation (as revealed by EW): So why the new version? Here's executive producer Jaime Paglia to explain: “The [original] mask is so iconic. If you were to have that mask in a television series, but you weren’t following any of the characters [from the original], I believe that would be misleading the audience." And if the mask reminds you of Michael Myers' white "William Shatner" visage, you wouldn't be far off: “It evokes some of the Jason hockey mask and the white Michael Myers mask, but it’s still first and foremost evocative of the Scream mask,...

While the "Scream" films, at 90 minutes each, were able to follow and make fun of the slasher film mold, MTV's upcoming TV series adaptation has to take a different route.
Speaking with Buzzfeed, executive producer Jaime Paglia says that on change they have had to make is that the body count has to be spaced out and time devoted to these characters which will allow us to care about the before they get taken out:
"What we try to do in every moment is separate out the fact that this is a town where people are being stalked and look at them individually as characters, figure out what their secrets and lies are, and what their relationship dynamics are going to be. So if you were to watch this as a regular teen soap, you would be engaged with them and care about them and the stakes would be there.

MTV’s Scream adaptation must have had a decent pilot, a full season has just been ordered...
Do you like scary movies? More importantly, do you like televisual serials based on previously successful scary movies? We hope so, because MTV have just ordered a full series of their small screen adaptation of Scream.
Via a cryptic tweet and a phone line, MTV announced that the series will premiere next October, nice and close to Halloween 2015. We’ve also learnt that the series will be ten hour-long episodes long and that Wes Craven will be involved in a producer capacity, as are Harvey and Bob Weinstein. Kevin Williamson however, who scripted the original film, will not be involved.
Jamie Travis of Faking It directed the successful pilot episode, with Revenge’s Jay Beattie and Dan Dworking writing the script. On executive producer and showrunner duties was Harper’s Island’s Jill Blotevogel.

“Do you like scary movies?” If this line from Wes Craven’s Scream still sends a shiver down your spine, then perhaps you should prepare to be creeped out by more cryptic phone calls, as MTV has officially put in a series order for their Scream reboot.
MTV made the announcement via Twitter, using blood-splattered emojis to get the message across, in addition to a listed phone number. If you call the number, a man imitating Roger L. Jackson’s chilling vocal cords says, “Do you like scary TV? Scream is coming to MTV October 2015.”
The first season of the show will consist of 10 episodes and it is believed that the franchise’s iconic Ghostface outfit will not be worn by any killers early on, based on this statement made by R.J. Torbert of Fun World (the official rights-holder and manufacturer of the Ghostface costume) in an interview with Ghostface.

Just two weeks ago, MTV announced that it had set director Jamie Travis (Faking It) to helm the pilot episode of a series based on the popular meta-horror Scream franchise. At the same time, the network revealed a cast of young up-and-comers, including Willa Fitzgerald (Alpha House, Royal Pains), Amy Forsyth (Reign), John Karna (The Neighbors), Carlson Young (Key and Peele) and Amadeus Serafini. Some quick casting news is here for the upcoming MTV series based on the Scream franchise as THR is reporting that four more actors have signed on for active duty, one of whom will be replacing the previously announced Amy Forsyth.
Willa Fitzgerald will star as Emma Duvall, a classic beauty whose looks and popularity hide a natural shyness and intellectual nature. Her new life with the “in crowd” leaves her estranged from her childhood best friend, Audrey.
