The first season of Reacher became an unexpected hit – the adaptation of Lee Child's novels attracted viewers unfamiliar with the source material, as well as fans of the books who complained that the character previously played by Tom Cruise was far from what Child described.
The second season came out almost two years after the release of the first, and the show was renewed for a third season at the end of 2023. And only recently new information has emerged – a new chapter of Reacher's story will be released in 2025.
It's still a long wait, so here are five TV shows to help you pass the time while you wait for the new season.

It’s official. Amazon has confirmed the casting of Maggie Q as star of the upcoming Renée Ballard Bosch spinoff series, which Deadline previously exclusively reported. Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming series based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels is being renewed for Season 2, Variety has learned from sources.
The show, which stars Aldis Hodge as Cross, has yet to debut its first season or even set a premiere date. But according to sources, Amazon was impressed enough with what they have seen from the first season to greenlight the second and begin casting. Jeanine Mason has reportedly already been cast in Season 2.
Reps for Amazon declined to comment.
If “Cross” proves to be popular, it would be the latest successful Amazon series based on a long-running novel character. The company found themselves with a massive hit on their hands courtesy of “Reacher” starring Alan Ritchson, based on the Jack Reacher novels written by Lee Child. Likewise, Amazon’s longest-running series to date was the cop drama “Bosch,” based on the Harry Bosch novels written by Michael Connelly.

The 27th Sonoma International Film Festival (March 20-24), as always, leaned into wine and food with the sold-out opening night U.S. premiere of Thomas Napper’s “Widow Clicquot” (Vertical Entertainment), starring Haley Bennett as the woman who saves the legendary winemaker’s legacy. The wine country film festival drew its highest audience attendance to date with a robust film slate programmed by artistic director Carl Spence (working with Executive Director Ginny Krieger), in his second year, including upcoming specialty fare like Luc Besson’s “DogMan” (Briarcliff Entertainment) starring Caleb Landry Jones in an incendiary performance, and Sony Pictures Classics’ raucous comedy “Wicked Little Letters,” starring Olivia Colman, along with a smattering of yummy wine and food events.

April’s an uncommonly strong auteurist month for the Criterion Channel, who will highlight a number of directors––many of whom aren’t often grouped together. Just after we screened House of Tolerance at the Roxy Cinema, Criterion are showing it and Nocturama for a two-film Bertrand Bonello retrospective, starting just four days before The Beast opens. Larger and rarer (but just as French) is the complete Jean Eustache series Janus toured last year. Meanwhile, five William Friedkin films and work from Makoto Shinkai, Lizzie Borden, and Rosine Mbakam are given a highlight.

Bosch is definitely one of the most successful and critically acclaimed cop dramas out there, and that’s saying something considering there are thousands to choose from. Adapted non-chronologically from Michael Connelly’s popular mystery novel series, Bosch features Titus Welliver as the stoic LAPD detective, Harry Bosch. Throughout the show’s seven-season run, Bosch has survived shootouts, military assassins, serial killers, lawsuits, internal affairs probes, and a lengthy suspension — all stemming from his unwavering commitment to a single principle: the pursuit of justice for all. Starting all the way back in 2014 and ending with its final season in 2021, Bosch...

I used to read Lee Child's Jack Reacher books when I traveled, burning through a paperback on a long flight. Post-pandemic, I don't find myself in planes that often anymore, but I need still need my regular fix of preposterous action, hard-boiled mystery, and glorious tough guy nonsense. So the world of Reacher, built around a hulking former U.S. Army cop who travels the country as a homeless drifter and solves crimes/snaps necks along the way, now lives in my ears. I've gone full audiobook. Child's famous "frictionless" prose is ideal gym listening -- you don't need to concentrate too hard when you're on the treadmill, as the plotting is designed to go down real easy. Jack Reacher books are written to be enjoyed effortlessly by a wide audience, after all. Even a listener who is struggling through mile three of that daily jog can enjoy every twist and turn.

The Untitled Renée Ballard project is centered around a character that has not appeared on the two Bosch series to date. It follows Detective Renée Ballard, who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division—a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest case load in the city. Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination.

When Amazon greenlit a series based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling series of Harry Bosch novels, there was one detail everyone involved knew they had to get right. The show’s success hinged on finding the right actor to play LAPD Detective Harry Bosch.
Luckily, the Bosch creators struck gold with Titus Welliver, who’s embodied the gruff detective over nine seasons of Prime Video’s Bosch and its Amazon Freevee spinoff, Bosch: Legacy. But the casting process wasn’t easy, as Connelly recently recalled.
‘Dozen and dozens of actors’ were considered for the title role on ‘Bosch’
On Nov. 8, Connelly sat down for a virtual chat about his new novel, Resurrection Walk, with author S.A. Crosby as part of Barnes & Noble Midday Mysteries series. At one point, the conversation turned to Bosch, with Connelly opening up about how Welliver landed the role.

As a spin-off of Bosch, Amazon Studio’s fan favorite and most popular procedural drama, Bosch: Legacy, added a new dimension to the narrative by exploring Madeline Bosch’s storyline with equal importance to the primary continuation of Harry Bosch’s adventures. As we have previously mentioned, Maddie’s arc quite often turned out to be more interesting than that of her famous detective father, and the second season is no exception in that regard.
In the previous season, the focus was on Maddie learning the ropes about police work from her father and her colleagues, and she was struggling to cope with the grim reality of the world of crime. By the end of the first season, Maddie herself became a victim of such a heinous crime when she was abducted by the serial rapist Kurt Dockweiler. Beginning the second season with a nerve-wracking scenario of Maddie’s abduction, Bosch: Legacy quickly moved on to new situations involving Harry and Chandler, where their professional lives came into jeopardy. The first four episodes build up the central narrative smoothly, and there are three distinct plotlines to follow that occasionally mingle with each other. One of Chandler’s former clients, David Foster, was framed for the sexual assault and murder of City Hall employee Lexi Parks, and to prove his innocence, the senior lawyer had assigned Harry to the case. After being rescued from the clutches of her captor, serial rapist Kurt Dockweiler, Maddie re-joined the LAPD, and due to her proficiency, she was quickly recruited into the Cru unit. However, her experience as a victim made it hard for her to move on, and she has been plagued by anxiety and fear of similar situations taking place in the near future as well.

No matter how badly the Bosch family tries to put the dour experiences behind them, the ghosts of the past continue to haunt them, and the most they can do is hope and endure. After the tense, turbulent beginning with the first two episodes of the second season, Bosch: Legacy finds itself delving into new situations, while the impact of the events during immediate past is still lingering strongly in the lives of Harry, Maddie, and Chandler.
In the first two episodes, the serial rapist Screen Cutter, aka Kurt Dockweiler, who had abducted Maddie during the first season finale, was shown to surrender himself in exchange for immunity from prosecution. Harry Bosch is back where he belongs. After an earthquake rendered the Bosch character’s iconic home uninhabitable, he spent most of the first season of the spinoff series Bosch: Legacy living in temporary quarters with a far less impressive view. A major part of the first season of Bosch: Legacy revolved around Maddie following her father’s footsteps in joining the LAPD as a cop, a decision that elicited mixed feelings in both her and her father. On one hand, Harry was proud of Maddie, but at the same time, the risks involved with the vocation made him increasingly anxious for the safety of his daughter. Maddie’s initial enthusiasm for joining the force was also dialed down a bit as she faced the harsh realities of a brutal, unforgiving world, which undoubtedly took a mental toll on her. Linking this particular tone of narrative, the ending of the first season subjected the Bosch family to a horrible fate, as Maddie gets targeted and later abducted by the serial killer known simply as Screen Cutter, whom she was pursuing during her short tenure as a cop.

[This story contains spoilers from the two-episode premiere of Bosch: Legacy.]
Working as a journalist covering the police beat in the ‘80s and ‘90s, Michael Connelly believed his reporter’s job would be a means to an end in becoming a best-selling author one day. He would parlay his riches of stories from the various personalities of law enforcement officers he met during his newspaper years and craft a fictional no-nonsense L.A. Police Detective named Harry Bosch. Bosch’s creed would be simple and to the point: “Everybody counts or nobody counts.”
In 1992, The Black Echo became Connelly’s first best-seller featuring Detective Bosch. He hadn’t imagined then that, a little more than 20 years later, Bosch would become the longest-running single character in television streaming history, played by Titus Welliver. In an upcoming episode of Bosch: Legacy Season Two, private investigator Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch (Titus Welliver) asks a favor of a couple of colleagues from his days as an LAPD homicide detective. Their exchange is terse and extremely one-sided in favor of the self-righteous Bosch. As he walks away, Christina Vega (Jacqueline Obradors) mutters, “Same old Bosch.”
“Same old Bosch” might as well be the actual title of Bosch: Legacy, which is among the least spinoff-y of spinoffs ever made(*). It brings back the hero of Bosch as its main character.

Despite having a varied directory of content, different streaming services tend to have a certain genre specialization, which is considered to be their Usp. With Netflix’s thrillers, mysteries, and true crime, HBO’s is mostly about innovative dramas that tackle a variety of themes set in different backdrops. Apple TV+ delves deep into grand-scale sci-fi, and Amazon Prime aces the grounded crime drama genre. One of the series that catapulted Amazon Prime’s popularity among fans of the said genre was Bosch, a procedural detective drama that is possibly the longest-running series on the streaming service as well.

For Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), everybody counts or nobody counts. However, that mantra takes on a deeper meaning in Season 2 of Bosch: Legacy as the retired homicide detective turned private investigator is on a desperate search for his daughter Maddie (Madison Lintz). The budding LAPD police officer was taken from her apartment by a lucha-masked assailant during the cliffhanger from the Freevee series’ first season. Time is of the essence for Bosch, who enlists the help of attorney Honey “Money” Chandler (Mimi Rogers) and other familiar faces including his old partner Jerry Edgar (Jamie Hector). As Bosch fans know, this is just the tip of the iceberg of what’s to come. Here we gather intel from EPs Tom Bernardo and Henrik Bastin. They’ve been among those who have played an important role in developing the Bosch universe for streaming alongside the book series’ author Michael Connelly. This looks...

Private investigator Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) has already lost his beloved ex-wife in a gangland shooting, and in Bosch: Legacy’s second-season opener on Freevee, daughter Maddie (Madison Lintz), a rookie cop for the LAPD, is in critical danger after being kidnapped last season by a serial rapist in a Mexican wrestling mask. “Harry feels helpless,” says executive producer Henrik Bastin of the former cop. “He’s no longer on the force and he can’t go after his own daughter’s abductor.” (Credit: Warrick Page/Amazon Freevee) Of course, Bosch is a play-outside-of-the-rules kind of guy, and the first two nail-bitingly intense episodes flash back and forth between Maddie’s brave attempts to survive her dire situation and her dad’s desperate attempts to locate her. “This case,” Bastin says, “will strain relationships and be an [ongoing] major storyline.” Meanwhile, the FBI is homing in on Harry and his frenemy,...

As The Lincoln Lawyer has been renewed for a third season on Netflix, fans are hoping to see a future crossover with Prime Video‘s Bosch. Lincoln Lawyer and Bosch share the same universe, at least within Michael Connelly’s books, on which the two series are based. Michael “Mikey” Haller, the criminal defense lawyer and recovering addict who runs his office out of his Lincoln, is revealed to be the half-brother of Detective Hieronymous “Harry” Bosch. The characters have crossed over multiple times in Connelly’s books. Connelly’s 2008 novel The Brass Verdict, which Netflix’s first season of The Lincoln Lawyer is adapted from, sees Bosch make his first crossover appearance. This has led to fans thinking they...
