X Factor sources have revealed that Simon Cowell decided to change the age limit of the older group on the show, because there were too many talented singers.
Normally the wannabes are divided into four categories – Girls 16-24, Boys 16-24, Groups and 25′s +. However this year the older group will bed aged from 28 and over, so that some of the gifted older singers can be slotted into the girls or boys category and therefore saved from the chop at bootcamp stage.
An insider told The Sun: “There are normally twice as many under-25 singers as over, but with some of the best acts being in their mid-20s this year they wanted to make sure they didn’t lose them.”
A show spokesman said: “At Nicole’s suggestion, and agreed by Simon and Louis Walsh, the boys and girls category age limit has been increased to 28.
