Even though James “Ghost” St. Patrick tried to build a life where his kids wouldn’t have to break the law to get ahead, we’re inclined to think he’d be proud of the way Tariq steps up in the new trailer for Power Book II: Ghost‘s final season.
The video at the top of the post outlines Tariq’s situation when the Starz drama returns in June: He has Noma, Effy and the Tejadas gunning for him, with only his longtime pal/business partner Braden backing him up. And if that weren’t bad enough, he’s...

Popular and pre-existing IP has reigned supreme in Hollywood as most studios and streamers look to continue the success of former franchises for an easy win. But that’s not a trend Nicole Dow is aiming to pursue.
As the head of TV for Marsai Martin’s Genius Entertainment, her formula isn’t overly complicated. Dow breaks down their development slate into three specific categories: kids and family, young adult, and new adult.
The latter of which is a less explored territory. The genre first came about within the last 15 year — and only recently gained steam online with authors like Colleen Hoover (“It Ends With Us”) and Casey McQuiston leading the charge. As the name explains, new adult covers the emerging adult generation between the ages of 18-29.

In 2021, Juneteenth, the celebration of the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans, was established as a federal holiday, and with new holidays to celebrate, there are new opportunities for holiday movies, of course. From director Dawn Wilkinson (“A Nashville Christmas Carol”) and writers Matt Allen (“Mighty Oak”), Lisa Mathis and Krista Suh, comes “Block Party,” a summer family comedy that’s ostensibly themed around Juneteenth.
The connection to Juneteenth feels tenuous at best, as characters continually name-check the holiday but never stop to explain or discuss the meaning of the celebration. The script assumes that the audience is familiar with the holiday and its importance, which is perhaps a heartening sign that Juneteenth doesn’t need to be explained anymore, but most great holiday films at least touch on the significant themes of the holiday (e.g. “the true meaning of Christmas”).
“Block Party” feels strangely divorced from what Juneteenth actually signifies,...

Tracee Ellis Ross scored her fourth Emmy nomination this year for her performance as Dr. Rainbow Johnson in ABC’s “Black-ish.” The nomination comes after a significant few years for the actress, including a prequel series about young Rainbow called “Mixed-ish” and the film “The High Note,” her first starring role in a movie in over a decade. But Ross remains proud of the work she is doing on “Black-ish,” which is now entering its seventh season.”We don’t lean into the traditional sitcom wife/mother, the idea that you’re upholding an idea of perfection, that you are doing only one thing and being one version of what it is to be a woman,” says Ross in an exclusive new interview with Gold Derby. Chris Pine’s character didn’t have a drug problem in “I Am the Night,” but he did do a lot of drugs.
“The joke was Jay’s got a lot of problems, but drugs aren’t really a problem,” writer and executive producer Sam Sheridan said, speaking at TNT’s Fyc event for the program. “They’re like a symptom, [but] we didn’t want to make it [about that].”
Still, as Jay Singletary, Pine felt like a bit of a loser, especially when the limited series’ fictional protagonist met up with its real-life hero, Fauna Hodel (played by India Eisley).
“I felt creepy, you know?” Pine said. “It was that weird dynamic where you have the leading man and the leading lady, and you think something romantic may happen, but it can’t happen. So you have to toe this line, and we play it in one episode that was odd […] in Hawaii.

"It's right when I say it's right," we hear Jimmy Lee (Golden Brooks) tell her daughter Fauna, and we already get the sense of the home life dynamic. There's going to be some rancor bubbling under the surface, and rebellion. The young teen chides her mother with "who needs school anyway?" and her mom warns her that she's "different than that" loser talk. And now we see a protective mom who has a reason to be protective.

For the cast and crew of TNT’s new mystery drama “I Am the Night,” filming in the John Sowden House was all too real. Nicknamed the “Jaws House” for its sharklike facade, the famous Los Angeles residence was once home to Dr. George Hodel, a well known Hollywood gynecologist in the 1940s and prime suspect in the Black Dahlia case.
The limited series tells the true story of Fauna Hodel, a young girl played by India Eisley who finds out that she’s Dr. Hodel’s biological granddaughter. Alongside Jay Singletary (Chris Pine), a washed up journalist obsessed with the Black Dahlia murder, the two delve into the secrets of the past and soon get twisted up in the surreal world of Dr. Hodel.
Variety spoke with the stars of the show, along with director Patty Jenkins, at Thursday’s premiere at the Harmony Gold Theater in Los Angeles.

Here all the fatal attractions grow stubble. From daddy dearest to the journalist who stars in series to the cops protecting her, Fauna Hodel is constantly at risk of death.
The series is based on the real life story of Fauna Hodel, the biological grandfather of Dr. George Hodel (Jefferson Mays), a renowned Los Angeles gynecologist who may also be one of the most heinous criminals in the history of Hollywood: The Black Dahlia murderer. We know this going in because it is telegraphed on almost every frame, but also because main character...
