When it comes to earworms that instantly conjure memories of sitting cross-legged in front of the TV on a Saturday morning, it's hard to beat the theme song for the original "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" cartoon series. The invigorating hype track about the "heroes in a half-shell" was composed by Dennis C. Brown and Chuck Lorre. James Mandell, who provided the vocals, told Dish Nation that he was a session singer in the 1980s and one day he "got a call to come in and sing a tune with a 'wacky' lyric."
Now, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor (also known for his wacky lyrics) and his longtime collaborator, Atticus Ross, are bringing their musical talents to the underworld of the Turtles. The news was let slip by professional skateboarder Tony Hawk, who recently visited Reznor to shoot a music video cameo appearance for a cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Wish.

Protoje is in his head. One of modern reggae’s most important figure is in a contemplative, almost melancholy mood on his latest album, Third Time’s the Charm. Gone are the aspirational anthems and the superstar crossover collabs from previous records. This time, Protoje is leaning back, getting lost in his thoughts, and sinking into the riddims.
The 10-track set’s first single, “Hills,” finds Protoje recounting an idyllic period of isolation during the pandemic lockdowns. “Man, I been up in the hills, you know, like hide away, no sign a me,...

Composers Christophe Beck and the Newton Brothers were among top honorees at Thursday night’s Sesac Film and Television Composer Awards in Santa Monica, California.
Beck was cited for his music for last year’s action comedy “Free Guy,” while the Newton Brothers (Andy Grush and Taylor Stewart) earned their award for scoring the action-horror film “The Forever Purge.”
Television composers honored for popular series included Danny Lux, Jon Ehrlich, Gabriel Mann (“A Million Little Things”) and Paul Buckley (“Odd Squad”).
Scott Jungmichel, recently named president and COO of Sesac Performing Rights, greeted the crowd, while Erin Collins, VP of film, television and developing media, announced that Sesac’s Reel Change: The Fund for Diversity in Film Scoring program (designed to support traditionally underrepresented groups) had recently funded projects for 12 composers, amounting to nearly 200,000.

On this week’s Blue Bloods on CBS, one of the world’s finest actors — whom many have called the American [Sir Laurence] Olivier — is appearing as Archbishop Kevin Kearns. Actor Stacy Keach is instantly recognizable and has a body of work that is enviable in its scope and range. Asked about the often cited comparisons to the great late British thespian, he recalls in Dennis Brown’s biography, Actors Talk: Profiles and Stories from the Acting Trade, how after a chance meeting with Sir Olivier, he was introduced by Olivier as “Stanley Kreech”. It was a moment he recollected with typical self-effacing humor...read more...

We chatted to composer Sebastian Evans about scoring Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...
If you’re a regular reader of this site, you’ll be well aware that Den of Geek are huge fans of Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. So when we were approached about speaking to Sebastian Evans, the composer of the show, we were thrilled. Not only would we be able to gain some insight into an under-investigated area of television making, but we’d get to talk about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The music on the show is great (you’ll find us calling for a release of the show's score towards the bottom of this article), so this felt like a particularly exciting opportunity).

Troubled singer Chris Brown is heading to rehab. A representative for the R&B star announced Tuesday that Brown has decided to go to rehab a day after he was released from jail following his arrest for allegedly punching another man in Washington, D.C. Brown remains on probation after his 2009 attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna and could face jail time as a result of the arrest. "Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility," a statement said. "His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life...

With 4/20 upon us, today marks the release of the first-ever family authorized documentary, "Marley," chronicling the life and times of legendary musician Bob Marley. Directed by Academy Award-winner Kevin Macdonald and executive produced by Marley’s eldest son, Ziggy, the bio-doc is the first U.S. film to be released simultaneously in theaters and stream online and features rare footage and performances of the late icon.
In celebration of the definitive documentary’s release, Marley opened up to the Huffington Post about his involvement with the project, his new satellite radio show, and the idea of embarking on a Marley family tour.
How does it feel to have a film debut in theaters in addition to simultaneously streaming it across digital media platforms such as Facebook?
I think it’s cool. It’s good to be ahead of the game. It’s always good to be doing something fresh. I...
