Shondaland is known for creating TV hits, but with “Bridgerton,” Shonda Rhimes’ media label struck gold. But, for the Shondaland media team, success isn’t simply measured by the number of viewers who’ve streamed the Netflix series (although a record-breaking 82 million households is certainly nothing to sneeze at).
Thanks to longstanding talent relationships and executives who are knowledgeable about what makes their fans so loyal, each segment of the brand works to serve one goal — giving audiences a 24/7 content experience.
Shondaland executives Chris Diiorio (chief strategy & business development officer), Sandie Bailey (chief design and digital media officer), Alison Eakle and Tom Verica (senior creative production advisor) joined Variety for a discussion as part of SXSW’s virtual festival to explain how the synergies within the company work.

Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” continues to fly high in its second weekend at the box office, as it is estimated to earn $70 million from domestic receipts after making $19 million on Friday.
While that weekend total would signify a higher drop-off than “Black Panther” — 54 percent compared to 44 percent for the 2018 hit — a $70 million result would be the second-highest second weekend total in March box office history, sitting only behind the “Beauty and the Beast” remake’s $90 million made in 2017. With this result, the 10-day domestic total for “Captain Marvel” will rise to $266 million.
In second and third are this weekend’s new releases, Paramount’s “Wonder Park” and CBS Films/Lionsgate’s “Five Feet Apart.” “Wonder Park” is in second with an estimated $17 million opening from 3,838 screens, slightly better than the $10-14 million start expected by trackers. The animated film faces a tumultuous production that includes the firing of director Dylan Brown...

The most notable thing about Paramount’s “Wonder Park” — a sugar-addled “My Neighbor Totoro” ripoff with a beautiful message and a hideous everything else — is that the movie seems to have been made without a director. That’s not an insult, it’s a fact: Behold what might be the only IMDb page where the writers get top billing.
Perhaps that’s a damning indictment of a production that never found its way. More likely, it’s an honest reflection of how most $100 million animated films are made these days; “Wonder Park” doesn’t feel like the result of a coherent artistic vision as much as it does the result of a Rube Goldbergian workflow so convoluted that it’s a miracle the finished product even cuts together. [Note: Director Dylan Brown was fired for “inappropriate conduct” in January 2018]. Like a rickety wooden roller-coaster with just enough momentum to pull off a vertical loop,...

Why is “Wonder Park” called “Wonder Park”? The heart of the new digitally animated feature, a co-production of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies, is set in a spectacular fantasy amusement park, with train tracks shaped like a giant octopus’ tentacles, that’s nestled in a pastoral sunlit forest vista that looks like it could be the setting for Shangri-La. As much as any theme park in existence, it seems designed to fulfill any and every child’s dream. The name of the place? Wonderland. It’s possible that “Wonderland,” as a movie title, was seen as some sort of potential infringement upon the Lewis Carroll estate. But whatever the reason, the phrase “wonder park” is never uttered in the film, and that creates a slightly dislocated feeling.
So does the rest of the movie. It’s one of those kiddie features in which you can sense, in every scene, how...

With a $153 million opening domestically and $455 million worldwide, “Captain Marvel” is certain to be one of the fastest films to gross $1 billion at the box office. But exactly how fast will depend on whether it can hold as well in its second weekend as inclusive superhero films like “Wonder Woman” and “Black Panther.”
While both of those films had very different openings than “Captain Marvel” — “Wonder Woman” opened to $103 million while “Black Panther” opened to $202 million — both notably kept their second weekend drop-offs below 50 percent. Strong word of mouth, combined with the cultural weight those films had, resulting in Marvel and DC fans returning to theaters to see again and again, making them both huge hits.

“It’s time to open the park” – an announcement for Wonder Park that seems to bear repeating in this first official full-length trailer for the upcoming animated feature from Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies.
Starring Jennifer Garner, Matthew Broderick, John Oliver, Mila Kunis, Kenan Thompson, Ken Jeong, Norbert Leo Butz, Brianna Denski and Ken Hudson Campbell, Wonder Park tells the story of young June (Denski), a “wildly creative” 12-year-old girl who once designed a magnificent amusement park that’s long since gone to weeds and rust.
And chimpanzombies. Best not to try for an explanation on that one – just watch the trailer above.
“My mom and I invented this place and somehow you came alive,” says June to a colorful menagerie that includes a big bear, a warthog, and a porcupine (“I’m nobody’s pin cushion”). June’s mom is voiced by Jennifer Garner.

The first teaser trailer for Wonder Park has arrived and it is jaw-droppingly gorgeous! More within...
When an imaginative 12 year-old girl, June, goes on an excursion, she stumbles upon a dilapidated, but magical park called Wonderland. There, June finds outrageous, colorful animals and larger-than-life rides in a rundown park that only she can bring back to life. This is the first teaser trailer for Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies, Wonder Park!
The teaser trailer for Wonder Park features glorious visuals that make the film extremely appealing. However, I do hope that more story is unveiled when the full-length trailer eventually finds the light of day. Although, Wonder Park isn't without its fair share of drama. Previously, this film was supposed to be the directorial debut for former Pixar artist Dylan Brown, but he was ousted from the film in January after multiple women reported "innappropriate behavior and unwanted conduct". Nevertheless,...

In the trailer, a young girl (voiced by Brianna Denski) walks into a forest which reveals a magical place beyond the trees. The theme park comes back to life, with all of its inhabitants, including bears, monkeys and pigs, reprising their roles in the park.
“Wonderland is now open!” the monkey says.

Women in Animation has partnered with a group of independent studios on a pledge to have zero tolerance for harassment in the industry.
The advocacy group has lined up 11 companies — OddBot, Inc., Six Point Harness, Titmouse, Bento Box Entertainment, CounterPunch Studios, Duncan Studio, Incessant Rain Animation Studios, Renegade Animation, Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, Tonko House and Wild Canary Animation — and hopes to convince others to join and affirm their commitment to creating healthier work environments. In each instance, the studio president and owner have agreed to sign the pledge and to have it counter-signed by each of their employees.
The move came about in the wake of an open letter that was sent last October to studio chiefs. It was signed by more than 200 women and gender nonconforming people in the animation industry, urging others to speak out about sexual harassment and calling the problem pervasive.
