“Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski apologized on Friday morning for using a gay slur to describe Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The MSNBC anchor was criticized heavily on social media platforms and by President Donald Trump after she mused during Wednesday’s broadcast that Pompeo wanted to be a “wannabe dictator’s butt boy.” Brzezinski’s comments were in reference to the secretary’s attempts to duck questions about Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s alleged involvement in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
“The term is crass and offensive, and I apologize to everyone, especially the Lgbtq community and to my colleagues, for using it,” Brzezinski said during Friday’s show.
The “Morning Joe” host was off on Thursday dealing with a “family matter.” She tweeted an apology for her remarks on Wednesday, but elaborated during her return to the broadcast, by referencing the imagined reaction of her father,...

Mika Brzezinski apologized on-air two days after using a homophobic slur while talking about Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
“There’s a lot going on, but I want to get to something first,” she segued clunkily after a recap of the morning headlines.
“I was off yesterday for a family matter…but I wanted to address a term that I used on this show on Wednesday that was vulgar. I knew it right away, and I tweeted that it was a terrible choice of words and that I was sorry.”
“But please allow me to say this face to face: The term is crass and offensive and I apologize to everyone, especially the Lgbtq community, and to my colleagues, for using it.”
“It was a mistake. My father would have found it so unbecoming and disrespectful and he would have told me. I will work hard to be better.

President Trump was almost immediately condemned for his crudely personal attack on Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski Thursday morning — and some of the most biting comments came from fellow Republicans.
Trump, 70, took to Twitter early Thursday morning with a series of insults aimed at Brzezinski and her cohost/fiancé Joe Scarborough.
“I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don’t watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year’s Eve, and insisted on joining me,” Trump wrote. “She was bleeding badly from a face-lift.

Happy 80th birthday, Shirley MacLaine!
The legendary, award-winning actress, who was born April 24, 1934 in Richmond, Va, started out as a dancer and got her big break on Broadway. She made her first film with Alfred Hitchcock, became a Rat Pack regular, flirted briefly with politics but has never stopped acting as she enters her 7th decade in Hollywood.
She started off as a lovably kooky ingenue, but is known today for her cantankerous matriarch roles in "Downton Abbey," "Bernie," "Steel Magnolias," "Guarding Tess," and, of course, her Oscar-winning role as Aurora Greenway in "Terms of Endearment."
Her next gig is a singing and dancing role on "Glee," of course. Happy Birthday to one of the most talented, most colorful character actresses of all time.
1. She was named after Shirley Temple.
2. She's been performing since age 3, when she began doing ballet.
3. As a girl, she pretended she was Rita Hayworth, since...

On Monday morning, Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski were joined by Brzezinski's father, for National Security Adviser Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski, fresh off winning the 2011 Jury Du Prix Tocqueville prize. In his acceptance speech, as his daughter noted, he opined that the United States is becoming "a country of socially ominous extremes between the few super rich and the increasingly many who are deprived." One source of the frustration among the American people, as Dr. Brzezinski sees it, is the "mystery" surrounding the way our economic system and the great, instantaneous flow of money works.

Richard Holbrooke pushed harder and cared more than other American foreign-policy players. Peter Beinart on Holbrooke's special blend of superpower swagger and moral passion.
There will probably never be another American diplomat like Richard Holbrooke. The reason is partly personal. Most diplomats are careful, reserved, discreet... diplomatic. Holbrooke was the opposite. He didn't merely court reporters; he stalked them. And when they didn't write enough about him, he wrote about himself. He did not do subtle. When he bore down on people, he had about as much respect for personal space as Lyndon Johnson in a men's room. As Democratic doyenne Pamela Harriman once put it, "he's not entirely housebroken."

In all these ways, Holbrooke was part of the sociology of 20th-century American Jewry. He entered the Foreign Service in the 1960s, when it was still something of a Wasp club.

Not only was Joe Scarborough sitting back and watching Mika's stunned reaction in amusement, but so too was Mika's father Zbigniew Brzezinski, the former cabinet member under President Carter.
