Steven Spielberg kissed his wife and embraced his mother before his left hand floated to his temple in disbelief. Then he grew visibly emotional as he made his way to the stage of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The 46-year-old Spielberg had just won his first Oscar — as best director for “Schindler’s List,” an unflinching look at the Holocaust and its horrors. “This is a big surprise,” presenter Clint Eastwood said somewhat sarcastically.
As Eastwood’s joke suggests, Spielberg’s victory at the 1994 Academy Awards was preordained — an unavoidable coronation after he had dominated popular culture so completely over the past year. Not only had he subverted his image as a boy genius, spinning escapist fantasies out of celluloid, by tackling a project as grown up as “Schindler’s List,” but he had also reestablished himself as the most successful director in Hollywood with another 1993 release, “Jurassic Park.” The adventure film, essentially “Jaws” with dinosaurs,...

June is ’90s month on Vice TV. But based on its recent programming decisions, it could be argued that the cable network is currently in a perpetual state of ’90s month.
With the debut of “Dark Side of the 90’s” Season 2 on Tuesday and the July 12 premiere of Nacelle Company’s docuseries “Icons Unearthed: Star Wars,” Morgan Hertzan, Vice TV executive vice president and general manager, tells Variety that his team’s goal with this content is to reach the Gen X audience through its seemingly endless love for the era.
“Obviously, a lot of media has focused on millennials, a lot of media is focused on the ‘Greatest Generation,'” Hertzan said. “We’re young for a cable network, we’re pretty young median age, as cable goes. And we really have that Gen X audience and they love when we do stuff like this. So we decided, let’s lean into that.

Vice TV’s “Dark Side of the 90’s” returns with its second season next month, featuring new twisted tales from the era. In the Season 2 trailer, which is exclusive to Variety, Mary Jo Buttafuoco breaks down the infamous 1992 incident in which she was shot in the face by Amy Fisher, a teenager that her husband, Joey Buttafuoco, had committed statutory rape against.
Labeled by the tabloids as “The Long Island Lolita,” 17-year-old Fisher served seven years on first-degree aggravated assault charges for the attack. “I turned my head to open my door, and that’s when my head exploded,” Mary Jo Buttafuoco says in the trailer.
The promo also includes 90’s icon Maury Povich, and teases of deep dives into “Cops,” “The Real World” and Mma and UFC.
Per Vice, “‘Dark Side of the 90’s’ reveals the soul of the decade through the pop culture moments, trends and people that captivated us.

It's been more than 25 years since Mary Jo Buttafuoco was shot in the back of her head by her husband Joey Buttafuoco's lover, 16-year-old high school student Amy Fisher. But now, Mary Jo is opening up about the "Long Island Lolita" scandal that rocked the nation back in the 1990s, and just one day before she tells all in Oxygen's Snapped, she revealed that now that it's been more than two decades since the incident, Mary Jo has finally been able to forgive Amy for what she did all those years ago. "After seven years, I went to the Betty Ford center because I was addicted to these drugs and I wanted to get off of them," Mary Jo said in an interview with Fox News about her addiction to pain killers after the incident. "I had survived this gunshot wound, but I was now a drug addict if you will.

Mary Jo Buttafuoco is speaking out in a new interview — and she has some choice words to say about Amy Fisher, the “Long Island Lolita” who shot her in the face on May 19, 1992.

“She’s in her 40s now,” Buttafuoco continued of Fisher. “She hasn’t made good choices, that’s her decision. I wish she hadn’t. I forgave her. I forgave her more for me, because again, like I said, when you got this anger and this bitterness you have to say,...

January 6 marked the twenty-year anniversary of Nancy Kerrigan's knee-whack heard 'round the world. It combined everything that Americans could possibly want in a scandal: Sports, a blonde vs. a brunette, class conflict, humorous names, and non-lethal violence. It was the best story since Joey Buttafuoco, and this one had the added international stage of the Olympics. Tomorrow night, Espn's "30 for 30" documentary series finally takes on the scandal with The Price of Gold. What The Price of Gold has that few other "30 for 30" docs have is an utterly, pervasively familiar subject matter. It's hard to think of a more famous moment in sports, one that's so clearly part of the lexicon. From very early on, it's been a pop-culture goldmine. For a while there, you couldn't turn on a TV without seeing some mention of the event. Joey Buttafuoco says he has been inspired to write a memoir of his affair with the Long Island Lolita, Amy Fisher, after surviving an almost fatal illness. But he warns, not everyone is going to be happy with what he has to say, especially police on Long Island.
“My motivation to write the book is the life-threatening illness I had, diverticulitis. I was bleeding black blood like a dumper on a hot day on a New York City Street. The doctor told me I had 48 hours to live. I was writing things down like a knucklehead on a napkin. I cried for three months trying to recover. I was always the strongest guy I ever knew, emotionally and physically but this took me to my knees.”

I nearly forgot that every season during the audition rounds, American Idol seems hopeless. We spend hours paying attention to methfaced losers who "sing" in Chester Cheetah growls, or elitist bastards in their deplorable vests, or gospel screamers who faint six times a day because of a disorder called nothing. It's not until late February when the focus shifts to the Adam Lamberts, Melinda Doolittles, and the Siobhan Magnuses, those standouts who don't need condescending narration from Seacrest to seem important. At this time, we're still slugging it out with the ugly screaming skulls.
Let's take a curated journey through some of last night's most important moments. If at any time I seem tolerant of "What a Wonderful World" or "Georgia On My Mind," remember to shoot me in the gay face, because I want to soak those maudlin-ass Idol ditties with kerosene and ignite them in front of a weeping Nigel Lythgoe.

Who’s in better shape?” He said. While Stern asked them if there would be bad blood exorcized in the...

A review of tonight's "How I Met Your Mother" coming up just as soon as you shred my Joey Buttafuoco pants... Because the second Robin Sparkles episode was inevitably disappointing compared to "Slap Bet," and because this season had been so frustrating up until last week's more vintage "Himym" outing, I'd been bracing myself for a while for "Glitter" to make me sad about what the show had become. Instead, the return of Robin's teen pop alter ego turned out to be one of the season's funnier (albeit silliest) episodes. The actual emotional storylines didn't work all that well. As a...

Amy Fisher is going back to doing what she knows best.
The 'Long Island Lolita' who, at age 16, shot her middle-aged lover Joey Buttafuoco's wife in 1991, is now becoming a full-time porn star.

"I'm not going to be a porn star," Fisher promised Maury back in 2007 after her husband Lou Bellera 'leaked' their private sex tape which sold a healthy 200,000 copies.
On tomorrow's show, she will apologize for going back on her word. But, hey, apparently, porn videos pay more than simple stripping, which is how she has been earning a living for several years.

It’s only the second episode of NewsRadio, but “Inappropriate” sees the quirky staff of Wnyx start to get into the kinds of sometimes over the top, almost always funny shenanigans that will continue throughout the course of the series. The main plot revolves around Matthew making a rare appearance in the booth, during which he mispronounces Joey Buttafuoco’s name repeatedly (it’s not hard to guess how). Meanwhile, Dave and Lisa end up sleeping together before even knowing each other’s last names, starting the on-again, off-again relationship that will go for most of the show’s run. The other recurring plot thread that’s introduced here is the contentious relationship between Bill and Catherine, namely because Bill enjoys annoying Catherine too much. In other words, “Inappropriate” begins a lot of themes and plots that the show will continue to use for the majority of its run. That alone makes it worth watching.

Chicago – Oliver Stone’s “Natural Born Killers” is easily one of the best films of the ’90s, an experimental, daring, visually mesmerizing study of not just violence but America’s obsession with it. At the peak of his directorial abilities, one of the best filmmakers of the ’80s and ’90s turned his lens on the way we turn evil people into tabloid heroes and he did it with such vibrant style that “Nbk” has just as much resonance as it did fifteen years ago.

Every week, we find a new Worst Film Ever and deliver it to you as a public service. These films should be avoided at all costs, but if you absolutely have to see them, strap on your rosary beads and prepare to lose your faith in film! This week’s Worst Movie Ever is: Underground Comedy Movie (1999) Synopsis: Ill-conceived sketches meant to insult and offend - including, but not limited to, fetus sales, Boobwatch, Bag Lady Beauty Contest, Musical Parody "I Hate L.A.," spoofs on Dirty Harry, and Michael Clark Duncan losing his gay virginity. Offensiveness at its worst! What you may not realize, dear reader, is that a long discussion (almost thirteen minutes) went into shaping this feature - questioning over what films would be off-limits and which ones would be rife for hatred. There's something seemingly unfair about including a movie like this amongst the ranks of the Worst Ever simply because it's such...

John Wayne Bobbitt has been kicked off a celebrity fight bill after being arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada, for allegedly beating up his new wife. Bobbitt was billed to step into the ring with scandalous Joey Buttafuoco for "Celebrity Boxing 2" on May 22, but he has since been dropped. The 35-year-old ex-Marine spent Monday night behind bars for reportedly punching and kicking his new wife of seven weeks, Joanne, ironically during an argument about his appearance on the Celebrity Boxing show.
