“This is the year two thousand and twenty. The place is the Challenger Sea Mount, the top of an underwater mountain, a complex beneath the sea. Two hundred and fifty men, women and children live here. Each of them, a scientist pioneer. For this is our last frontier, a hostile environment which may hold the key to tomorrow. Each day, these oceanauts meet new challenges as they build their city beneath the sea. This is Sealab 2020.”
Hanna-Barbera had to change with the times and as the 1970s dawned, kids and adults alike were tuning into the difficulties planet Earth was facing. Ecology and Earth Day were on everyone’s lips. At the same time, parents’ groups were insisting Saturday morning cartoon shows do more than shill cereal and have characters hit one another.

Their answer was Sealab 2020, which lasted a mere season comprising just 13 episodes.

The Smurfs have landed on the big-screen and the movie is a hit. While it will take awhile for the feature film to be offered on DVD, the original cartoon adventures are available already.
As you may recall, The Smurfs ran from 1981 until 1989 and were a cornerstone of NBC's Saturday morning line-up. Led by wise and gentle Papa Smurf, the cute little blue creatures did their best to live happily in the forest and to stay hidden from the outside world, particularly from evil wizard Gargamel and his nasty cat, Azrael. Some of the best vocal talent in the business provided the voices — actors like Don Messick, Lucille Bliss, Frank Welker, Danny Goldman, June Foray, Michael Bell, William Callaway, Hamilton Camp, Alan Oppenheimer, Alan Young, and Paul Winchell.

The characters in the upcoming The Smurfs movie will be played by an all-star cast. We know that Jonathan Winters is voicing Papa Smurf, Katy Perry will provide the Smurfette's vocals, George Lopez will perform Grouchy, and Alan Cumming will voice an all-new character, Gutsy Smurf. Quentin Tarantino was in talks to play Brainy but that apparently won't be happening now.
A few characters will be live and not cartoon, similar to the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies. Hank Azaria will play a live Gargamel, Neil Patrick Harris will appear as Johan, an expectant father, and Jayma Mays will play his pregnant wife.
But, what about the original cartoon voices? Some of the best talent in the business provided the voices -- names like Don Messick, Lucille Bliss, Frank Welker, Danny Goldman, June Foray, Michael Bell, William Callaway, Hamilton Camp, Alan Oppenheimer, Alan Young, and...

You have to hand it to the old Super Friends episodes, and to DC, for cramming a surprising amount of DC lore into small 7-minute sized servings. While incredibly silly in nature, there’s enough substance in each little adventure to make watching them all a breeze. But even if you can’t bear to see your favorite superheroes treated like the Scooby gang, take solace in knowing that these mindless shorts were the basis for the fan-favorite Justice League (their nemesis group the Legion of Doom makes an early appearance here). You’ll either love these cartoons or hate them, but the off-the-wall plotlines for each cartoon makes the series unpredictable fun and campy.
Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Wonder Twins, Robin and even the Green Lantern combat forces both terrestrial and alien in the name of earth’s safety. From their headquarters in the Hall of Justice,...
