- Peter Carey was born on May 7, 1943 in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, Australia. He is a writer, known for Bliss (1985), Until the End of the World (1991) and Dead End Drive-In (1986).

- Formerly an advertising copywriter in Sydney, and partner in the ad agency McSpedden Carey.
- While in the advertising business, he became friends with Bob Blanchett, whose daughter, Cate Blanchett appeared in the adaptation of Oscar and Lucinda (1997).
