Sally Carman ''deliberately turned down parts'' similar to her 'Shameless' character. The actress plays ex-prostitute Kelly-Marie Maguire in the Channel 4 series - which is in its final season - but was careful to choose something completely different for her next role, eventually settling on playing a middle class mum in 'Prisoners' Wives' She said: ''In a way I think Kelly-Marie was a massive blessing, because she looks so extreme that when I turn up to auditions looking normal people think I'm really versatile. ''But I have deliberately turned down parts similar to her - loudmouths and prostitutes - because you are...

Returning to British screens this past Thursday, Prisoners Wives has been one of BBC One’s secret weapons when it comes to quality drama on their channel. Despite the average-y ratings and the slash of two episodes this series, the hype for the return has been pretty exciting. While this may not be a show directed at WhatCulture readership, it still deserves to be championed alongside other WhatCulture loved shows.
The first episode sees the return of Francesca (Polly Walker) and Harriet (Pippa Haywood), continuing their story arcs from the last series. Francesca is slowly drawn more in the mob life of her husband’s, whilst Harriet finds new solace in Christianity as well as a new romance. We are all introduced to two new characters. The first being Aisling (Karla Crome), a young woman ready to walk down the aisle, but paired with a petty...

Returning to our screens this past Thursday was BBC One’s Prisoners Wives, a female led drama series focusing on the lives of a handful of wives and their male loved ones behind bars, as well as how they can handle the drastic change in their own lives. The first series attracted strong ratings, which was enough to warrant its return. However, instead of the standard six, we are instead given a shorter four episode run this time round.
With that, WhatCulture managed to spent some time with actress Pippa Haywood and chat with her about this new series and her character Harriet’s journey in Series II.
How does it feel being back for a second series?
I was absolutely delighted. Its one of my favourite programmes I’ve ever worked on. I just love Harriet and have a real soft spot for her. She has such depth and...

Prisoners’ Wives BBC1

Prisoners’ Wives season 2 got off to an explosive start as gangsters turned Francesca’s home into Sheffield’s equivalent of Dante’s Inferno. Things went from bad to worse for Francesca (Polly Walker) as a supposed truce between her husband and a a local rival ended with the latter being blown to smithereens whilst sitting beside Francesca in the back of car.
Francesca wasn’t the only person having a bad day. Newcomer Kim (Sally Carman) was performing karaoke at a kids’ party when the police burst in and hauled her husband off to jail. Unlike most of the fellows in the show, her husband was actually innocent having been falsely accused of molestation by a troubled youngster from next door.
Another newcomer in the cast is Karla Crome who plays Aisling. Technically, a prisoner’s daughter rather than a wife, but either way she...

'Shameless' star Sally Carman has to wear three pairs of knickers when she films sex scenes. The 32-year-old actress - who portrays foul-mouthed prostitute Kelly-Marie Ball - will only film X-rated scenes if she can keep her private parts hidden under numerous pairs of panties. She said: ''It's pretty much in my contract. I have a three pairs rule. As long as I've got three on, I'm Ok.'' While she insists on being well-covered during sex scenes, Sally doesn't normally mind dressing up in racy outfits for work. She added: ''I will put anything on, I really don't care.'' Although the actress has appeared in the ..
