These days, Nathan Fillion may be starring as a middle-aged police newbie on The Rookie, but there are millions of fans who still picture him as mystery novelist Richard Castle on the series Castle, which ran for eight seasons on ABC. While it’s difficult for Fillion to put a finger on exactly why people loved [...]

I must admit that I didn't have high hopes for The Rookie.
First off, the show's concept seemed a little light-weight. A 40-year-old is the oldest rookie to join the Lapd. It left me wondering what difference that would make after he gets through his initial training because there are plenty of 40-something police officers.
Then there was the show creator, Alexi Hawley, who was also the co-showrunner for Castle Season 8. I loved Castle, but you only have to read my Castle Season 8 reviews to find out how much I vehemently despised that final season.
Finally, there was the spoiler which reported that John Nolan, the 40-year-old rookie would be sleeping with a fellow officer about half his age.
None of the above was selling me on The Rookie, but between TV fans asking me about the show and ABC being nice enough to send out a screener of the pilot episode,...

Much like his character, John Nolan, Nathan Fillion is starting over in the role on ABC’s The Rookie.

Not every gentleman on television is a James Bond in training. Some may be upstanding citizens living their life with honor, respect, and dignity. Others might not lead such an honest life, but their charm, sense of style, and good manners make them quite desirable.

Viewing ABC’s Take Two premiere made me smile. It looks like the network may have another hit on their hands. How can I say that? Because most people thought that Castle, the first show created by Take Two creators Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller was doomed to fail. The premiere of Castle has 52 percent score on Metacritic. It ran for eight seasons. More importantly, the very things that Castle got slammed for are what its viewers found enduring. Here’s the best-written one that got it wrong. It’s from the Washington Post Wildly famous mystery novelist Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion)

Once upon a time, not so long ago, Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable (Bill Cosby) held the number one 'TV dad' spot on Father’s Day lists worldwide.
Sure, sure, Cosby and Cliff are two different men, but the lesson is the same. It's no longer enough to simply be present, crack jokes, and serve the kids Jell-o.
The time has come to hold our TV fathers to a higher standard. Out with the old and in with the new... Here are TV's Most Heavenly Fathers of this millennium.

In what was a pleasant surprise Deadline announced that ABC’s Take Two will be starting this summer! This is the new show from Castle creators and executive producers Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller. They are the off-screen duo responsible for creating that “love story wrapped in a procedural” that starred actors Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic as writer Richard Castle and Detective Kate Beckett. Fans of Castle often refer to the duo as “MilMar” – which is also the name of their production company. Together and separately MilMar penned some of the show’s highest-rated episodes. The most iconic of those is the season four finale, “Always,”

Nathan Fillion is returning to ABC in a big way.
The Castle veteran is leading the cast of The Rookie, a brand new cop drama will find Fillion's character way out of his depth.
The official logline:
John Nolan is the oldest rookie in the Lapd. At an age where most are at the peak of their career, Nolan cast aside his comfortable small-town life and moved to L.A. to pursue his dream of being a cop.
Now, surrounded by rookies 20 years his junior, Nolan must navigate the dangerous, humorous and unpredictable world of a “young” cop, determined to make his second shot at life count. Inspired by a true story.
The rest of the cast includes Afton Williamson, Eric Winter, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil, Titus Makin, Alyssa Diaz and Mercedes Mason.
At first glance, you would probably have mistaken John for Richard Castle from, well, Castle.
