Ken Jennings bid farewell to Grant DeYoung this past week. Grant had won four games in a row and then he lost before his fifth win. However, Ken believes that Jeopardy! fans have not seen the last of the former champion. According to Ken, he expects to see Grant back at the Tournament of Champions.
Fans seemed confused at this statement, but it makes sense based on recent history.
Ken Jennings Expects Grant DeYoung In Jeopardy! Tournament Of Champions

Yogesh Raut is still on a high after winning the intensely competitive Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions and is now reflecting on his triumphant return to the Alex Trebek Stage. The psychologist and podcast host from Vancouver, Washington, was crowned the Toc winner on Tuesday, March 19, after defeating fan favorite Ben Chan and professional quizzer Troy Meyer. In doing so, Raut bagged himself $250,000 and a guaranteed spot in the upcoming Jeopardy! Masters tournament. “Jeopardy!’ is inherently a challenging game to play,” Raut said in an interview with the Seattle Times. “There’s a lot of luck involved, and over and over again, I benefited from the bad luck of other contestants.” Raut’s victory was met with mixed reactions from viewers, as some still had lingering animosity from his first time on the show. He first appeared on Jeopardy! in January 2023, winning three games for a total of $96,403. During his time on the show,...

Yogesh Raut is the new Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions winner, but his victory was met with a mixed reaction, with some viewers criticizing his “obnoxious” buzzer technique. The psychologist from Vancouver, Washington, beat out fan favorite Ben Chan and professional quizzer Troy Meyer on Tuesday, March 19, to secure the Toc crown along with the $250,000 prize pot and a guaranteed spot in the upcoming Jeopardy! Masters. Following Raut’s victory, fans took to social media to share their thoughts, with some praising his trivia skills and others blasting his erratic buzzer handling. “Am I the only one who found his frantic buzzer ringing obnoxious?” wrote one viewer on Instagram. Others agreed, with one person responding, “My mom did too! She said he was a maniac with the buzzer and that he was gonna break it.” Another added, “The way he held his buzzer was very disruptive to the other contestants. He did that the entire series.

A new victor has now emerged from Jeopardy!‘s 31st Tournament of Champions, which finally produced the series’ winner in Tuesday night’s nail-biter of an episode. Ahead of the installment, which was the sixth in the tournament, Yogesh Raut came in fresh off a second win in Monday’s episode, catching up to Ben Chan and his previous two wins. Trailing behind both of them, but still not out of contention, was Troy Meyer, who had one win of the three needed to succeed. Ultimately, only one of these three Jeopardy! favorites could take the top honors, and it was the Final Jeopardy round that sealed the deal. Throughout the episode, everything seemed to be coming up Troy Meyer. In the first round, he got six clues right and led the pack with $9,400 to Raut’s $5,400 and Chan’s $3,400. In the second, his lead continued, with him securing $19,800 to...

The show must go on… for at least one more night, that is. Jeopardy!‘s Tournament of Champions continued on Monday, March 18, and ended in a runaway that notched another much-needed victory for one of the finalists. Coming into night five of the tournament, Ben Chan had an edge over fellow contestants Yogesh Raut and Troy Meyer with two wins to their single victories (making him one away from taking the whole shebang and notching a spot in Jeopardy! Masters Season 2). However, the other players were far from out of the running, and after this episode, he’s got some real competition to speak of as it’s a match point for not one but two contestants. Right from the start, things seemed to be going Raut’s way, as he earned $8,800 to Chan’s $4,800 and Meyer’s $3,600 in the first round. It was the second round, however, that really...

The Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions is underway, and the best of the best competitors are going head to head to put their skills to the test.
Yogesh Raut, Ben Chan, and Troy Meyer were presented with a question in the “Songs of Youth” category worth $400.
Jeopardy!’s host, Ken Jennings, revealed the clue to the trio, which read, “Inspired by her bestie, Tay Tay sang when ‘somebody tells you they love you’ at this title age ‘you’re gonna believe them.'”
Troy’s guess was 17, Yogesh’s guess was 22, and Ben was stumped at the clue, meaning none of the three players got the correct answer: 15.

Jeopardy! super-champ Ben Chan is one of the three finalists in the 2024 Tournament of Champions and has opened up about his approach to the intensely competitive showdown. Speaking to Wpr’s The Morning Show on the day his quarterfinal game aired earlier this month, the philosophy professor from Green Bay, Wisconsin, revealed the “biggest surprise” about his Jeopardy! experience so far has been watching himself on television. “I had dreaded that part of it, because, you know, a lot of people don’t like their voice. I thought I would not like my voice or my face if I saw myself on TV,” he shared. “But the watch parties were actually probably the most fun I had. You really do it for your family and-or your community, because that’s what brought you there. So that really completes the experience.” In terms of preparing for the game show, Chan touched on his unique buzzer technique.

Jeopardy! host, Ken Jennings has fans raging when he let a contestant break a vital rule. This is something that rubs viewers the wrong way when it happens. So, what exactly happened? Read on for more details on the entire situation.
Jeopardy! Ken Jennings Lets Contestant Break Vital Rule, Fans Rage
Ken Jennings has given Jeopardy! contestants grace at times and this does not sit well with viewers at home. There have been instances when contestants have been in Final Jeopardy! but their handwriting has been illegible. It then becomes a question of if they wrote the right answer or not based on who can read it. Yet, one cardinal rule of the game is how one answers. It must always be in the form of a question such as “Who is” or “What is.” If this does not happen then the answer should not be accepted and with good reason.

It’s not over ’til it’s over, and Friday night’s Jeopardy! contestants found that out the hard way. The episode, which aired on March 15, featured three finalists as part of its 31st Tournament of Champions series: Yogesh Raut, Troy Meyer, and Ben Chan. Coming into day four of the tournament, each of these players had already tallied one victory, but now one contestant has notched a second win, which makes him one more win away from clinching a total victory (and a spot on Jeopardy! Masters Season 2). Throughout the night, Chan trailed his fellow contestants by a wide margin. After the Jeopardy! round, he had under $2,000 and half as many correct answers as Raut and Meyer. His fortune improved a bit in Double Jeopardy!, but he still trailed the others going into Final Jeopardy! with $12,800 to Meyer’s $33,200 and Raut’s $20,400. Still, it wasn’t a runaway, so...

Jeopardy! is usually very careful and thorough when it comes to the wording of its clues, but one particular question about The Simpsons on Thursday’s (March 14) game contained a mistake. In the third game of the Tournament of Champions finals, which saw pro-quizzer Troy Meyer battling it out wit Ben Chan and Yogesh Raut, the contestants were faced with a category titled “Real Names of Unreal People.” Chan selected the $600 under the category, which read, “Robert Underdunk Terwilliger is the real name of this vengeful The Simpsons character.” Meyer, who won Wednesday’s (March 13) game in dominant fashion, quickly buzzed in and correctly guessed Sideshow Bob. However, it turned out the Jeopardy! clue writers had misspelled the name of the infamous Simpsons villain. Jeopardy, Inc! It seems that the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions victory is anyone’s to claim after the latest finals game between remaining competitors Ben Chan, Troy Meyer, and Yogesh Raut. The players went head-to-head for the third time as the first-to-three victories race continued, and while Ben and Troy had the chance to take a lead, Yogesh came out on top. This means that all the current finalists have one win under their belt at this stage in the competition, meaning they’ll each have to win two more games to take the lead. All of the players delivered strong final scores, but Yogesh was a clear frontrunner with a final score of $35,601, ahead of Troy’s $30,400, and Ben’s $30,401. Troy Meyer scored a major win in the second game of the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions finals on March 13, marking a massive improvement from his third-place loss in the March 12 matchup. With a potentially record-breaking final score and a Daily Double wager that had the live audience screaming with excitement, fans online are praising his “stunning” playing. Troy was up against fellow finalists Ben Chan, who won the March 12 game, and Yogesh Raut. Yogesh was seeking redemption after his shocking Final Jeopardy wager landed him in second place in the first game of the finals. In Game 2, he bet it all in his Final Jeopardy wager instead of zero. The latest Tournament of Champions on Jeopardy! has delivered many shocking moments.
Tuesday’s new episode was another for the books after Ben Chan comfortably beat out fellow champions Justin Bolsen and Emmett Stanton.
At the beginning of the high-octane installment, host Ken Jennings discussed how the 2024 Tournament of Champions has been the most “dramatic in history.”
Going into the episode, Chan was seen as a strong competitor, with nine initial wins. Still, given that many strong competitors had already lost their spot in the tournament, nothing was off the table.
From the jump, Chan had a comfortable lead, snagging a Daily Double at $7,000.
By the time we got to Double Jeopardy!, he had banked $11,400, compared to Bolsen’s $1,600 and Stanton’s $3,200.
Ben Chan’s victory was imminent
By the Final Jeopardy!, he had amassed $29,800, so it was inevitable he would be leaving with the win and advance to the semifinals.

Order has been restored to Jeopardy!‘s 2024 Tournament of Champions thanks to fan favorite Ben Chan, who won Tuesday night’s (March 5) episode in dominant fashion. When the actors in the SAG-AFTRA guild joined their writing counterparts in the WGA in going on strike, nearly all production in Hollywood came to a grinding halt. That result certainly made sense as most of the entertainment we consume employs the services of actors and writers.

Following vows by several recent champions to boycott the “Jeopardy!” Tournament of Champions if it takes place amid the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, the show’s producers say they “never had any intention” of holding the annual contest “until the strike is resolved.
Furthermore, the show’s spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday, none of winners from the most recent season have even been contacted about participating.
The statement emphasized that the show has “a long history with and tremendous respect for the WGA and our writers,” and that “we would never air game material not created by WGA writers.” The statement also emphasized that it operates in compliance with SAG-AFTRA.
Instead, the statement says, the show will go into “a holding pattern,” postponing the Season 39 Tournament of Champions and instead producing new original episodes using material that was written before WGA went on strike. More details will be announced in August.

Instead, the statement says, the show will go into “a holding pattern,” postponing the Season 39 Tournament of Champions and instead producing new original episodes using material that was written before WGA went on strike. More details will be announced in August.

“Jeopardy!’s” Tournament of Champions has a bigger problem on its hands than trivia this year.
Starting with a Reddit post made on Friday by 13-time “Jeopardy!” winner Ray Lalonde, several prominent contestants have pledged not to return to the series to compete in the Tournament of Champions in solidarity with the Writers Guild of America, as the series employs WGA members.
Lalonde, an IATSE member who works in scenic design, wrote that that there were “credible reports that the producers are making contingency plans to start filming the next season of the show with old and/or recycled material if the WGA strike remains unresolved.” Lalonde then went on to praise “Jeopardy!” writers for their work and their current efforts to secure a new deal with the studios, before making a promise to support them. “As a supporter of the trade union movement, a union member’s son and...

Jeopardy! is shaking up its pattern due to the writers strike.
Sony Pictures Television, which produces the daytime game show, is pushing back the upcoming Tournament of Champions after a number of former winners declared that they would boycott the show if it used “recycled material” for questions.
A spokesperson said, “Jeopardy! never had any intention of producing a Tournament of Champions for Season 39 until the strike is resolved.”
“Our current plan is to go into a holding pattern of sorts, pushing back the Season 39 postseason to first produce original episodes featuring the best of our WGA written material. Next month, we will share more news about exciting plans and enhancements to the contestant experience for this upcoming season and beyond,” it added.
Contestants including Ray Lalonde, Chris Pannullo, Ben Chan, Luigi de Guzman and Amy Schneider had said that they would not be competing under the current circumstances.

Questions are swirling around the viability of Jeopardy! Season 40 amid the ongoing writers’ strike, with a delay looking increasingly likely.
Amid talk that the game show’s producer, Sony Pictures Television, is mulling a number of strike workarounds — including recycling old questions — several Tournament of Champions contestants say they will not appear on Jeopardy! until the work stoppage is resolved. Production on Season 40 is set to get underway in mid-August, with the annual Toc typically among the first episodes to be shot. The final episode of Season 39, meanwhile, airs this Friday.

Several “Jeopardy!” champions have vowed to exit the game show’s annual tournament in solidarity with the ongoing WGA strike, which just entered into its 13th week.
As the syndicated competition series gears up for its 2023-2024 season, the writers’ strike has not only impacted planning for the upcoming installment but will also now prompt absences for former winners set to appear on this season’s Tournament of Champions.
Recent “Jeopardy!” champion and self-proclaimed “lifelong devoted fan” Ray Lalonde announced he would not to compete in the tournament should the WGA strike remain unresolved on social media, first pointing out reports that the game show has “contingency plans to start filming the next season of the show with old and/or recycled material.”

Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions is the latest series to be hit by the writers strike.

The annual Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions is being pushed back.
After several big winners from the 2022-23 season say they won’t take part in the tournament while the writers strike is ongoing, producer Sony Pictures TV said late Tuesday that it “never had any intention” to tape the tournament until after the strike is resolved.
Jeopardy! employs Writers Guild of America members, and the syndicated game show is planning to rely on material from prior seasons (39 years’ worth) as it begins taping shows for the 2023-24 season, the show noted in its statement Tuesday. The Tournament of Champions usually tapes in late August and September but will be moved until after the strike.
Ray Lalonde, a TV set builder and painter from Toronto who won $386,400 over 13 games last season, told The Washington Post that he emailed the show’s producers on July 21 to say he wouldn’t take part...

Ben Chan recently went on a nine-day winning streak on Jeopardy!, cementing his spot in this year’s Tournament of Champions in the process. But he almost didn’t end up on the show at all. Taking to Twitter on Sunday, May 28, Chan revealed how he almost blew his chance to appear on the long-running game show after he missed an email inviting him to an audition. “I didn’t see the invite to audition for Jeopardy! until 2 months after it was sent, and my tryout date had passed,” he explained, referring to it as his “sliding door” moment. “I hate imposing & wasn’t going to ask for another shot, until friends encouraged me… & I got my shot!” Speaking of “sliding door” (h/t @buzztronics) moments.. Jeopardy!‘s still struggling to find a consistent champion in the wake of Ben Chan’s loss, but has a new promising competitor emerged? In the May 25 match hosted by Mayim Bialik, returning champion Ed Petersen faced off against Jesse Chin an accounting director from Bayside, New York, and Megan Braught a library assistant from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Following his single victory, Ed entered the match with strong footing, scoring decently in the first round. He entered Double Jeopardy! with $5,600 against Jesse’s $2,800 and Megan’s $3,000, but Ed’s lead couldn’t last forever. It quickly became clear that Jesse was the player to watch as he pulled in a strong $4,000 win with the Daily Double, boosting his score noticeably during the Double Jeopardy! round. Heading into Final Jeopardy!, Jesse’s total was $14,800 over Ed’s $12,400 and Megan’s $6,200. Presented with the category, “Asia,” the clue read, “Trained as an engineer,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the May 24 episode of Jeopardy!] May 24, 2023 marked the first game of Jeopardy! following the end of Ben Chan’s recording-breaking, nine-episode streak. Returning champ Lynn Di Vito went up against Ed Petersen and Joyce Sun in the episode, which aired just before the finale of Jeopardy! Masters. Following the episode, fans of the game show remarked on the number of clues left on the board in the rounds, a result of a slower-paced game but not an entirely unheard of outcome. Lynn, a retired museum educator from Colorado Springs, Colorado, came into the episode with $11,800 in winnings. Ed is a planning technician from Orlando, Florida, and Joyce is a retired lawyer from Bloomfield, New Jersey (whom you might recognize from a 1960s Pampers commercial). Their pacing was slower than what fans see in Jeopardy! Masters, which led to some leftover clues on the board in each round (though not a shocking amount). One ...

Although many fans online called the ruling from the judges harsh and that Chan was robbed of his streak, he was still able to leave his mark with his impressive run, breaking records and securing a place in the Tournament of Champions. According to the Jeopardy! subreddit, Chan has ten games, nine wins, and nine runaways under his belt, making it the seventh longest consecutive runaway streak after host Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer, Matthew Amodio, and Amy Schneider. Chan also has the longest consecutive runaways from a debut game, a first from any contestant in the show’s history. The post explains Ben received this history-making news after the show. What kind of a name is Benedick, anyway?
Jeopardy! contestant Ben Chan must have been asking himself the same thing as he realized his nine-day winning streak on the ABC gameshow was coming to an end. On Tuesday night’s episode, the philosophy professor from Green Bay, Wisconsin, whose nine games’ worth of winnings totaled $252,600 by that point, lost Final Jeopardy! by one letter.
The final round’s answer read, “Both of the names of these two lovers in a Shakespeare play come from Latin words for ‘blessed.’”
Chan’s opponents, Lynn Di Vito and Danny Leserman, both wrote down Romeo and Juliet. Chan had his tenth win in his grasp, but he slipped up by writing “Beatrice and Benedict” rather than “Beatrice and Benedick.” So close, but not good enough for the Jeopardy! judges.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the May 23 episode of Jeopardy!] Nine-day Jeopardy! champ Ben Chan took on retired museum educator Lynn Di Vito and policy communications manager Joe Leserman to continue his record-making reign and increase his total winnings of $252,600. Host Mayim Bialik joked that Chan could even someday match Ken Jennings’ streak of 65 runaway wins. However, a rocky game for Chan and a harsh ruling from the judges may jeopardize his chances of breaking that streak. Ben lost $4,200 on a true Daily Double in the first round but retained the lead going into Double Jeopardy with $3,800, Danny at $600, and Lynn with $400. Lynn secured the second Daily Double and took first place by adding $3,000 to her total of $7,200, tying with Ben. During the third Daily Double, Ben dropped $3,000 from his score of $11,200 against Lynn’s $11,600 but played a strong game leading into Final Jeopardy with $17,400, Lynn with $14,800, and $2,400 for Danny. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the May 18 episode of Jeopardy!] Here’s another reason to be a fan of current Jeopardy! champion Ben Chan: what the watch you can see on display when he rings in to answer means to him. I actually didn’t know that much about it, but about a month after I inherited it, I was watching Antiques Roadshow, which I’ve watched for 20 years, and for the first time ever, an item that I own showed up and was appraised,” he said. With his five consecutive wins, Ben Chan snagged himself a spot in the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions. And in the May 17 episode, he marked another milestone when winning his sixth consecutive runaway game. With this victory, Ben became the first Jeopardy! player to win their first six games by runaways. In Jeopardy!, a runaway game is when a player’s winnings are so large, no wager from the second or third place players could help them catch up. Ben won four runaway games before he had to exit the gameshow due to Covid-19 in April. On May 16, he became the first player to win their first five games by runaways since Rick Knutsen in 2001. On May 17, he upped the ante with a sixth consecutive runaway. Ben was playing against Brittani Seagren and David Lu in the episode. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the May 16 episode of Jeopardy!] Following his defeat of Hannah Wilson, it was up to four-day champ Ben Chan to retain his crown and continue his quest to become a future Jeopardy! Master. But despite Ben’s dominant gameplay style, contestants Lydia-Claire Kerrigan and Tom Winiarski gave him a run for his money Tuesday evening with host Mayim Bialik. In the first round, Tom was in the lead with $4,000 vs. Ben’s $2.600, but when Chan doubled to $12,800 after answering the first Daily Double, he took the lead before the final two categories on the board were cleared. Going into Double Jeopardy, Ben had $13,200, Tom with $6,600, and Lydia-Claire at $3,200. Tom got the second Daily Double in the “Don’t Go Anywhere” category but could not answer correctly, dropping his score to $6,800 from $11,800. Jeopardy!‘s latest champion faced another in an unusual match-up as Ben Chan returned to the competition on May 15 after a brief absence due to travel issues, pitting him against eight-day champ Hannah Wilson. While it may have been some time since Ben stood behind the podium, he didn’t miss a beat, buzzing in for answers left and right through the Jeopardy! and Double Jeopardy! rounds. A three-day champion himself, Ben returned with $69,001 in winnings so far, up against Hannah’s $229,801. Needless to say, Wendy was already behind the lead that these two champions already had, but whose game would it be?
