Hollywood, with its lengthy list of Jewish founders, flourished during an era of rampant antisemitism. In recent years, the Anti-Defamation League has said anti-Jewish sentiment has hit levels unseen since after the Great Depression, a time when Jewish studio moguls had difficulty securing bank loans as many lenders would not work with Jews. Now, in Los Angeles specifically, an Adl report (released months before the Israel-Hamas conflict) found harassment and vandalism increasing to highs.
On Nov. 8, the Los Angeles Museum of Tolerance hosted a screening of footage produced by Hamas to brag about murdering Jews. During the screening, the head of the Museum of Tolerance, Rabbi Marvin Hier, reminded viewers that if not for atrocities like the one on Oct. 7, the Jewish global population should be 200 million today, but “there are only 14 million because we are the leftovers of pogroms.” The screening, organized in part by Gal Gadot, saw protestors...

Exclusive: It was one of the most poignant and heartbreaking stories to come out of the U.S. forces’ fight against Al-Qaeda. Air Force Combat Controller John Chapman, mortally wounded, was first thought to have died in the mountains of Afghanistan in the battle of Takur Ghar. This hero who took on two dozen Taliban soldiers and saved 23 Americans was then left behind when Seal Team 6 retreated. Evidence is overwhelming that Chapman survived being hit: After the retreat, military video footage shows a man courageously fighting out of a bunker all alone on the mountain and, among other findings, Chapman’s voice was unmistakenly heard on the radio. A true American hero.
The story of the fight and what occurred has been written in a book and is also the subject of a Newsweek cover story “Honor Guard.” Now management and production shingle Thruline Entertainment has optioned an upcoming book...

The last few weeks have been great for historical graphic novels. Idw’s Calamity Jane: The Calamitous Life Of Martha Jane Cannary, 1852-1903 is a lushly illustrated account of Calamity Jane’s life by Christian Perrissin and Mathieu Blanchin, and Fantagraphics’ Johnny Appleseed contrasts the story of John Chapman’s…

Its supporting characters, like beat cop Katarina Da Silva (Millie Ruperto), may insist that "the world isn't always white-and-black . . . especially not in the favela." But the Rio-set thriller Falcon Rising could easily be reset in Commando's fictional, monochromatic banana republic of Val Verde, as its creators fail to highlight the idiosyncrasies of its setting.
Both Commando and Falcon Rising follow burly American war vets who schlep out to third-world countries just to kill locals who have wronged the women they love. Here, ex-marine John Chapman (Black Dynamite star Michael Jai White) avenges his sister Cindy (Laila Ali), a social worker, after crooked cops put her in a coma. With James Cameron so intent on pushing filmmaking further and further into the digital realm, pursuing 3D and computer technology capable of matching reality to a photo-realistic level, it’s surprising that his focus hasn’t turned more towards video games. He’s credited consoles like the Nintendo 3Ds in powering 3D cinema while rarely dipping into that format for telling stories, but as a new video proves, that hasn’t stopped gamers from attempting the director’s signature style. The ability to create cutscenes from gameplay has blown the doors open on how people frame their in-game accomplishments, and, combined with YouTube, how they share it. For some, that option allows for level walkthroughs and bragging rights; for others, like YouTube user John Chapman and his “Grand Theft Auto V” online team, recreating “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” seems the better, more entertaining option. Indeed, in a recently uploaded video...

Some YouTube users just go above and beyond don’t they? Case in point user John Chapman who put his creativity to work with Grand Theft Auto V and recreated the dirt bike and motorcycle chase scene from Terminator 2: Judgment Day. It's an incredible accomplishment when you think of the time and patience one would need in order to do this. Don’t be cynical, just enjoy it. I've owned the game since its release and I have yet to master the dog training...

I really enjoy watching movie scenes that are recreated in different and creative ways. YouTube user John Chapman and his team took it upon themselves to recreate the awesome truck chase scene from Terminator 2: Judgement Day in Grand Theft Auto 5. It turned out freakin' spectacular! I know that you'll all get a kick out of this. Here's a note from Chapman:
Hey everyone, so this week we remade a scene from T-2 (Terminator 2: Judgment Day) and it took quite some time. It mostly took a lot of time because I wanted to try to make it exact. Yes I may have missed some small scenes but damn we worked hard on this from the actual setting up, to the directing, to the editing so please give it a look.
This video made my day. ...

With the reboot Terminator: Genesis on the way (which still has ties to the original franchise storyline), there's no better time to be reminiscing about James Cameron's sci-fi action films. The 25th anniversary of Terminator 2: Judgment Day is just a couple years away, but some fans have paid tribute a little prematurely, and in a very cool way. For those who don't know, the sandbox city in the video game Grand Theft Auto V is called Los Santos, but it's clearly modeled after Los Angeles. And there's a long aqueduct that runs through part of the city where an infamous chase takes place between Arnold Schwarzenegger, Edward Furlong and Robert Patrick. That scene has been near perfectly recreated in the game. Watch! Here's the scene from Terminator 2: Judgment Day in Grand Theft Auto V (via Annapurna Pictures): In the description of the video, creator John Chapman says,...

Li'l Sebastian isn't (or wasn't) Indiana's only beloved (if fictional) cultural figure. On Monday (Sept. 26) the state -- and indeed apple lovers everywhere -- celebrates Johnny Appleseed Day. We all know Appleseed -- real name John Chapman -- is credited with planting apple trees all over 19th century America. But here are some things you may not know about the guy:
1. When asked why he didn't marry, Chapman said he believed two female spirits would be his wives in the afterlife if he stayed single on Earth.
2. A devout Swedenborgian who believed in avoid materialistic trappings, Chapman is said to have wandered around shoeless and wearing just rags despite holding vast properties in Indiana, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
3. A sculpture of Appleseed in front of an Ohio high school was renamed "Early Settler," after the board of education decided Appleseed was too eccentric a guy to honor and, we presume, somehow influence teenagers.

This week! We explore whether Disney lets little boys become Disney princesses – and if that's okay! We answer whether a guy should tell his 13-year-old brother to stop saying "That's so gay." And we ask: "Does de-gaying a movie ever work?"
Have a question about gay male entertainment? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!)
Q: One of my cousins has a five-year-old grandson who is totally obsessed with Disney princesses and all things of a feminine nature. His parents are working on being accepting of him, but his grandmother, who has a gay son and a gay cousin (me), is totally accepting of him. Disney World has something called The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique (gotta love that name), which is a salon that transforms little girls into the Disney princess of their choice. They also have something called The Pirates League, where...

This spring, The Sherman Playhouse is proud to present the uproarious comedic farce, Not Now Darling, by Ray Cooney and John Chapman. Not Now, Darling takes place in a London fur salon and involves two partners, one who struggles to keep things on an even keel, and the other who is an energetic philanderer. Mistaken identities, wives, mistresses, fur coats, and a lightning pace of rapid-fire jokes and slamming doors all become part of the hilarious doings in the tradition of classic English bedroom farce.
