Director Matt Harlock (American The Bill Hicks Story) and comic artist Krent Able, whose previous short, Ink, C**ks & Rock’n’Roll is live on Vice, have launched a new supernatural horror, entitled Deep Clean, on Kickstarter. In his latest podcast/interview, host Stuart Wright talks to Matt about the film, the Kickstarter campaign, collaborating with comic artist Krent Able and their first film together…
The campaign is Live Now, runs until July 13th. Deep Clean is a supernatural comedy horror, in the vein of films like Trollhunter, Shaun of the Dead and Attack the Block. Official synopsis:
What if the council road crews you see causing traffic jams every day were not what you thought? 16-year-old Alex on a boring work placement with his loser Uncle. What he doesn’t know is that Deep Clean is a secret council unit whose job…is blocking up demon portals.

Sylvester Stallone is set to star in Escape Plan 2 - although it's unclear as of yet if Arnold Schwarzenegger will return too...
A small but significant update here. Escape Plan 2 is very much a live project, it seems.
Sylvester Stallone is set to shoot the film later this year. And now it has its director in place. Mikael Hafstrom, who helmed the first movie, won’t be back for this one. In his place will be Steven C Miller. Miller has recently directed a trio of Bruce Willis features – Extraction, Marauders and First Kill, and was also behind the camera for the recent Nicolas Cage-John Cusack flick, Arsenal.
It’s still unclear whether Arnold Schwarzenegger will be reprising his role in the follow-up. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more…

The Dead Lands
Written by Glenn Standring
Directed by Toa Fraser
New Zealand, 2014
Cinema rarely looks to events of a pre-biblical vintage, but a mini-genre of pre-civilisation survival pictures does exist for those who pray to the old ones. The first instance of this primitive return to our roots which spears our interest was Clan of the Cave Bear, mysteriously directed by frequent Scorsese cinematographer Michael Chapman. More recently Kevin Reynolds took us on a adventure to Easter Island with Rapa Nui, and Roland Emmerich’s credibility was crushed with 10,000 BC, whilst the more seriously minded Nicolas Winding Refn added his brooding masculinity to the genre with his monosyllabic Valhalla Rising. Perhaps the highest profile film in the prehistoric swaps of survival is Mel Gibson’s brutal Apocalypto, which seemed to have been culled from the video game techniques of peril and boss fights rather than the historical archive of the local Natural History museum,...

Kino resurrects an odd curio with Shoot the Sun Down, a counter-culture Western from 1978, notable for headlining Christopher Walken just prior to his Oscar win for The Deer Hunter and Margot Kidder before she was that year’s Lois Lane in Superman. Of further note, director David Leeds, who financed with his own production company, would never again lend his name to another film in any capacity. The film, which is obviously modeled after Sergio Leone’s Man With No Name series, considering it’s mysterious protagonist, has all the makings of a subversive genre entry, it’s stance on violence guided by an incredibly idiosyncratic score (that’s not Ennio Morricone) and Michael Chapman’s beautifully photographed landscapes (with plenty shots of rising/setting suns for its grand motif). However, muddled plotting and a comatosely constructed climax peg the film as rather forgettable, which is unfortunate considering its strange ambience.

Kristen Stewart movies: Snow White and the Huntsman
Swath Box Office Pt.2: Chris Hemsworth / Charlize Theron Star Power
Of course, one could argue that the Twilight franchise doesn’t consist of Kristen Stewart movies, but ensemble pieces like The Avengers or Prometheus. In a sense, that would be a correct assessment. But it would be more correct to affirm that at the very core of Catherine Hardwicke’s Twilight, Chris Weitz’s New Moon, David Slade’s Eclipse, and Bill Condon’s Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and the upcoming Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is Stewart’s Bella Swan. Everything revolves around her.
True, when Twilight came out in fall 2008, Stewart was merely "the actress who plays Bella" — much like Chris Hemsworth to a certain extent remains "the actor who plays Thor." But things have changed quite radically since then. Kristen Stewart has become a global celebrity and, quite possibly, a strong...

It's hard to believe that nearly half the year is already over. With April having come and gone, we've already endured our first big fest of the season - Coachella, of course - and thankfully this year's Grammys helped make the beloved Bon Iver a household name. Best of all, Adele is on track to receive the first diamond record (10x platinum) since Usher's '04 effort Confessions.
So, basically it's safe to say that 2012 is already a hell of a year in music, and we've spotted some amazing new acts on the rise this year that are sure to only make it better. You may already recognize some of the names (who hasn't heard of Kimbra at this point?), but we hope you get well acquainted with all of them.
Here are six of our favorite acts on the rise. Who are some of yours?

Fertility service IVF Australia is to launch an advertising campaign encouraging gay men to be sperm donors, and promoting its services to same lesbian couples looking to have children.
The campaign, which will include print, digital and radio, will run in media outlets allied to the Pink Media Group sales house.
The campaign asks for “healthy, intelligent & generous” donors.
Among the information available to prospective parents is the sexual orientation of a sperm donor.
Prof Michael Chapman, senior fertility specialist at IVFAustralia, said that one reason for the campaign was because sperm donations are declining. He said: “We have more than 100 women looking for sperm donors in our clinics in New South Wales, and many have to wait more than six months for that donation. Between 2005 and 2008, the number of IVF cycles facilitated by donors decreased markedly, and anecdotally we believe the numbers have continued to decline since then.”

Melbourne, Jan 1: Sydney women are turning to sperm donors in Us as Australian men are too scared to donate.
Local donations to IVF clinics have all but stopped since it became easier for children to track down their biological fathers, News.com.au reported.
IVF Australia head Professor Michael Chapman told The Sunday Telegraph that donor shortages had become critical, falling from 100 to 10 at his clinic in the past four years.
"Last year we only had two or three donors on our books," Professor Chapman said.
"Today around Australia there are about 50 donors, but the demand is still substantially higher than that."
Consequently, IVF Australia started importing sperm from the Us two months ago.
