“Satya” didn’t create much hype prior to its screenings, trailers didn’t show any superstar in lead, critics didn’t fall over themselves to write, but everything changed upon its release, with the film becoming a critical success, earning money multiple times its budget. Director Ram Gopal Verma often opens up about harbouring burning interest for India’s crime world. His movies range from crime (Shiva) to romantic (Prema Katha), comedy (Mast) and so on, but his greatest successes come with stories about the “underworld”.
Arguably, “Satya” is among his finest 2-3 crime based gems. It was the year 1998 when the movie hit big screen, and people might notice close resemblances to incidents they often read on newspaper, nobody from Satya’s arena stepped forward to clarify to which extent the story is real; nevertheless, an air of reality permeates the film.

TollywoodThe film is said to be a soulful love story set against the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pak war.Digital NativeDigital NativeDirector Puri Jagannadh and ace producer and distributor Dil Raju are teaming up after a long time. It has been confirmed that the upcoming directorial from Puri Jagannadh, which features his son Akash, has been taken over by Dil Raju. Yes, the distribution rights of Mehbooba have been picked up by Sri Venkateswara Creations. Dil Raju, one of the most successful producers and distributors in the Telugu film industry, is known for picking up the best scripts. Making the announcement, actor Charmee Kaur, co-founder of Puri Connects, said in a statement: “It gives us immense pride and pleasure to be associated with the successful and well reputed producer Dil Raju garu’s Venkateswara Films, for our film Mehbooba, directed by Puri Jagannadh, starring Akash Puri, a proud Puri Connects venture.” The shooting for Mehbooba has been wrapped up and it is currently in the post-production mode. According to reports, the film’s release is slated to be on May 11 and its makers are working towards meeting this deadline. On Mehbooba, which will mark his son Akash’s debut as hero in Tollywood, the director had tweeted much earlier: “After finishing ‘Mehbooba’ script, I realised that I’m doing a highly intense and passionate love story for the first time ever which is completely out of my repertoire of ideas. It is a soulful love story in the backdrop of 1971 Indo-Pak war.” The film has Mangalore-based Neha Shetty playing the lead opposite Akash. The film has been shot extensively in the northern parts of India, particularly in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan. Sandeep Chowta has composed music for this venture. Akash made his debut as a child artiste in Dhoni in 2012 and went on to act in Andhra Pori as well. Dhoni, which was directed by Prakash Raj, was released in Tamil and Telugu. Tollywood Akash is said to be the lead in father Puri Jagganadh’s romantic entertainer ‘Mehbooba’. Digital NativeOne of the well known directors in Tollywood Puri Jagannadh is all set to launch his son Akash Puri as hero. The director had completed the shooting of the film Mehbooba, which stars his young son Akash in the lead. Touted to be a romantic entertainer, the film has been shot extensively in the northern parts of India. According to sources, the shooting of Mehbooba has been wrapped up recently and it has gone into the post production mode. Apart from donning the director’s robes, Puri Jagannath is also producing it under his own banner. Mangalore-based Neha Shetty has been roped in to play the leading lady in Mehbooba sharing the screen space with Akash Puri. It is a romantic film set in the year 1971 on the sidelines of the Indo – Pak war. Sandeep Chowta has composted music for this venture. The film is bankrolled by Puri's touring Talkies and co-produced by Puri Connects. Sources add that the team is planning it as a summer release and are working towards hitting this deadline. However, the exact date of release is yet to be confirmed, given the fact that several high budget films are in the pipeline for release during that time. Puri Jagannadh made his directorial debut with Badri in 2000 and has directed several blockbusters including Pokiri, Neninthe, Businessman etc. However, the director’s recent releases including Ism, Rogue and Paisa Vasool did not yield the desired results at the box office and he is under severe pressure to come up with a big hit to regain his status back in Tollywood. Akash Puri, on the other hand, made his debut as a child artiste and was seen sharing the screen space with Prakash Raj in the bilingual Dhoni, which was released in Telugu and Tamil. He then went on to act in Andhra Pori in 2015. (Content Provided by Digital Native)...

What comes to your mind when you hear the word Sanam? As a Bollywood music lover, I think of none other than India’s Fantastic Four who have clocked a whopping 2.7 million subscribers (and counting!) at their YouTube channel, thanks to their wonderful renditions of retro classic hits, modern hits and original compositions.
The fantastic four comprise of brothers Sanam Puri (lead vocals) and Samar Puri (lead guitar), Venky S (bass guitar) and Keshav Dhanraj (drums). I would say they are India’s most commercially successful band, and they have enthralled audiences in various concerts both internationally and in India. As a band, Sanam have also succeeded in bridging the gap between the younger and older generations, through their retro renditions.
I have been fortunate enough to have a chat with the band, to gauge their thoughts on current music trends, whose music they like listening to, and much more!

Gabbar Is Back
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Sunil Grover, Shruti Haasan, Suman Talwar and Jaideep Ahlawat
Director: Krish
Let’s give the ‘drivel’ its due. Films about heroes who harangue and punish the corrupt go back to the time when Guru Dutt turned his back on a hopeless humanity in Pyaasa. Since then corruption has grown epidemic.
And so have films on the theme.
What sets Gabbar is Back apart in the genre is its unabashedly massy tone. Here is a film about a man who decides to take charge of a social order on the brink of anarchy when all the formal faculties fail. He doesn’t believe in reprimanding the corrupt. He believes in punishing them with death.
So we have bribe-happy district collectors and other law enforcers hanging limp on trees and hoardings.
Ouch!
Yup, this Gabbar means business. And to the character’s good fortune he is...

After a smartly executed curiosity driven campaign, the promo of Gabbar Is Back has finally been unleashed. The outcome is pretty much as expected, what with an out-and-out massy entertainer with a strong social message – that against corruption – been thrown in. For Akshay Kumar, the film pretty much stands as third in the trilogy of his social action entertainers after Holiday and Baby.
We bring to you 10 reasons that make the Gabbar Is Back promo special, as a result of which it warrants repeat viewing.
Recall value of the title
Gabbar – The name has been iconic for four decades now. More than Mogambo. More than Shakaal. More than Dr. Dang. More than the rest. The greatest villain ever has also been the most moveable of them all. No wonder, when a film releases with Gabbar in the title, it enjoys immense recall value with at least three generations.

New Delhi, Nov 26: Singer-composer Sandeep Chowta is happy that his latest album "Matters Of The Heart", a compilation of mostly jazz numbers, has received a good response in times when Bollywood and international pop tops the charts.
Chowta, known for creating memorable tunes for films like "Mast", "Bollywood Hollywood", "Rakht", "Om Shanti Om" and "Housefull", has collaborated with international musicians like Dave Grusin, Tom Schuman, Chuck Loeb and more for the new album.
"I am very glad that the album is being very well received. In the days of Bollywood and international pop ruling the charts, it is very difficult.

This is no place for the weak. This world as we know it. And this film, as we discover with the thrill of chancing upon an unexpected little gem.
Inspired from a Spanish film, is it? I really don’t give a fig where writer-director Ahishor Solomon got the raw material for this gripping cat-and-mouse tale. Does the kitchen where the food on the table originates really mean anything? What counts is the quotient of curiosity and suspense simulated by the script. And there, John Day ranks very high.
Not for a while have we seen a film so steeped in despair, so swathed in anxiety, so audaciously draped in despair and yet it engages our senses without miring the plot in morbidity.
The story, let me tell you, is not for the squeamish. The two main characters are constantly haunted by their irrevocably tragic parts. Naseeruddin Shah and Randeep Hooda...

Mughda Godse will be seen in an item number for the first time in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns. The actress who has no other films in her kitty now says she was looking forward to work with Tigmanshu Dhulia for sometime now.
The item song is a satire on Indian royalty. The song, composed by Sandeep Chowta and sung by Paroma Dasgupta, exposes the dark side and hidden agendas of influential people. An excited Mughda says, “I was chilling in Goa when Tigmanshu called and offered me the song. I said yes immediately as it was quite wacky and a mad number.”
The lyrics of the song have also got a quirky touch. “Media se keh du kya re main khule aam re, haye ke balma bandh kamre mein rajneeti kare.” See what we mean! Like the song, Mughda says that the shoot in Delhi turned...

Starring Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt, Juhi Chawla, Tanuja, Mukul Dev, Vindoo Dara Singh
Directed by Ashwani Dhir
Every time Vindoo Dara Singh who plays a part of an extended patriarchal Punjabi parivaar in the Sikh heartland, opens his mouth to speak, he is shushed down by others saying, ‘Silencer lagaa’.
By God, at times you feel this loud, flamboyant, ostentatious yet – all right, admit it – sinfully engaging film should just pipe down. There is so much that’s noisy about this film. And we aren’t talking about Sandeep Chowta’s over-accented background score. Yet it’s never unpleasant noise.
Son Of Sardaar takes us straightaway into the core of a family feud in Punjab where Sanjay Dutt, playing a goofy oddball of a Punjabi patriarch as only he can, wants our affable Sardarji Ajay Devgn dead to fulfil an ancestral vendetta.
Let me warn you right away...

The Comic-Con 2012 schedule has now been released in full, and barring any major updates, is set. The blessing and curse of being an attendee is deciding which panels/autograph sessions/special events to attend, when they conflict. And they always do.
For you to see for yourself, below are what we are calling the “headliner” panels; those panels that are taking place in Hall H, Ballroom 20, Room 6Bdf, and the just-next-door Hilton Indigo Ballroom, the four major venues for panels. There are descriptions of each panel as well as the show(s) and/or movie(s) they are there to discuss.
See how many conflicts you might have, or how you might arrange time and space to somehow attend these plus spend every day in the vendors’ Exhibit Hall and chasing zombies in the nearby The Walking Dead Escape. By the way, if you figure that out, Please let us know.

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. And hopefully they'll provide a fix soon for the Sdcc smartphone app - in years past it's been extremely helpful.

After seeing umpteen films about cricket from Lagaan to Iqbal to Victory, Speedy Singhs is the first Canadian-Hindi film we see about ice hockey. But this isn’t your average sports based first with a dash of patriotism and individual storylines of triumph. Its a story about Rajveer Singh [Vinay Virmani] who is stuck between the expectations of following the family business and devotion enforced by his father [Anupam Kher of course] and his dream of greatness in ice hockey. But you can’t play ice hockey without a team so while papa doesn’t know, he forms his team, the Speedy Singhs, and tries to fulfil this desire.
Of course we have our dash of love with Camilla Belle playing the love interest Melissa, sister to coach Dan Winters, played by Rob Lowe that agrees to train the Speedy Singhs to victory. And maybe for a little fun, a dash of comedy supplied by Russell Peters who plays Sonu,...

Which demons could possibly provoke two normal healthy ambitious young people to kill a man, cut his limbs into several pieces and attempt to dispose of his body in the thick jungles?
Not A Love Story attempts to unravel the abiding mystery of human nature and the extreme measures it resorts to when pushed to the brink. This is the frightening sobering life-changing story of Anusha Chawla (Mahie Gill) a small-town girl with big Bollywood dreams who ends up being an accomplice in a gruesome crime that leaves everyone who knows her aghast.
We certainly are left open-mouthed.
Indeed it is the normalcy of Anusha’s dreams and how drastically they get subverted within the time-frame of a few decisive days, that forms the core of the compelling often repugnant but always riveting crime drama.
Ramu’s camera is frequently more frenziedly crazy than the deeds of the protagonists. The...

How did The Sandeep Chowta Project come about?I’ve been passionate about jazz from the time I was a 12-year-old kid. But when I came into the industry, I got sucked into Bollywood I was doing well with scores like Dum and Company but I didn’t want to be a part of the item song space. The turning point of life came when my house in Chennai was destroyed by the Tsunami. I happened to survive and realised how I had done nothing I really wanted to do in my life. So, I got in touch with my heroes in jazz ...

Film: ‘Kedi’; Cast: Nagarjuna, Mamta Mohandas, Anushka (special role), Brahmanandam, Shaji Shinde, Harshavardhan and others; Producer: D. Shivaprasad Reddy; Writer-Director: Kiran; Music Director: Sandeep Chowta; Camera: Sarvesh Murari; Rating; ** 1/2
Kiran’s directorial debut ‘Kedi’ is weak in its content and strong on visuals. The story does not have any freshness and the screenplay is neither path-breaking nor has any elements of novelty. The film has less commercial elements.
