Fan favorite British crime drama Vera will be ending after its upcoming 14th season on ITV.
The show’s star, Brenda Blethyn, who portrays the title character, said in a statement, “Working on Vera has been a joy from beginning to end and I’m sad to be saying Cheerio. But I am so proud of our achievements over the last 14 years. I’ll be forever grateful to the wonderful Ann Cleeves who created Vera, and to Elaine Collins who saw fit to cast me in the role. The producers, dream cast and crew have been fabulous and I’m going to miss them, but I won’t forget their huge talent, the camaraderie, laughter or kindness we shared nor the friendship of the people of the North East and our fans worldwide. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Brenda Blethyn’s career has been prolific, from playing timid librarian Alison opposite Simon Callow in Andrew Norriss and Richard Fegen’s wonderful 1980s sitcom Chance In A Million to her BAFTA winning turn as Cynthia in Mike Leigh’s 1996 film Secrets And Lies.
For over a decade, Blethyn has played the softly spoken yet dogged detective Vera Stanhope, created by author Ann Cleeves.

Trump’s trial takes place from today in New York. Peacock’s Stormy is produced by Emmy-nominated Erin Lee Carr and producer/director Sarah Gibson (Orgasm Inc: The Story of One Taste), who were also behind the Britney vs. Spears explosive doc. “Our team is thrilled to have international rights for this sought-after documentary produced by two renowned filmmakers who specialize in portraying the stories of women...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Criminal Record finale “Carla.”] Apple TV+‘s latest crime thriller does wrap up its case in the finale, but given that nothing really seems to be limited anymore, we have to ask the question: Will there be a Criminal Record Season 2? “Quite honestly, we’ve been so consumed by making this series—we didn’t finish in post very long ago—and getting it out that we just haven’t really had those conversations. We just want everybody to love this season,” executive producer Elaine Collins told TV Insider. Added executive producer Paul Rutman, “Then we’ll see.” The finale sees the truth come out about the murder for which Errol Mathis (Tom Moutchi) has been serving time all these years. He didn’t kill his girlfriend, despite a statement her son Patrick gave to Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty (Peter Capaldi) that led to Errol’s confession. Rather, the murderer was ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Criminal Record Episode 7 “The Sixty-Twos.”] It takes until the penultimate episode for Criminal Record to reveal the events of the night that Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty (Peter Capaldi) got that confession out of Errol Mathis (Tom Moutchi) for the murder of his girlfriend. But the events that lead to that are heartbreaking. It was “always” the plan to wait until now to show that, executive producer Elaine Collins tells TV Insider. “When we talked about creating the series and when we were storylining it, we decided right at the beginning, okay, we’re going to have a bubble episode. And it was always going to be the penultimate episode, wasn’t it?” Executive producer Paul Rutman confirms it was. “It felt like the right time. I think you go too soon, and you rob Hegarty of his mystery, and we want to keep the audience guessing about this character until the last ...

This episodes one and two review contains plot details but is largely spoiler-free.
In eight-part crime thriller Criminal Record, Peter Capaldi’s Dci accuses Cush Jumbo’s DS of unconscious bias. Has she – a woman of colour – automatically believed a tip-off about a West African-British prisoner’s wrongful conviction because she’s primed to see racist conspiracy everywhere? Or is Jumbo’s character simply seeing racist conspiracy because she’s looking right at it?
That mystery is at the centre of this new drama from the makers of ITV’s Vera. Two episodes of writer Paul Rutman’s series are out now on Apple TV+, with the rest to follow weekly on Wednesdays until February 21. Has Jumbo’s DS Lenker stumbled on a corrupt ring of racist cops led by Capaldi’s Dci Dan Hegarty, or is she putting two and two together to make five?
Your take on the ‘Is Hegarty a baddie?...

When Peter Capaldi flickers into view on the Zoom call, I half expect him to tell me to “F** Off!”
For TV viewers of a certain age, the 65-year-old Scottish actor will forever be Malcolm Tucker, the supremely sweary spin doctor in Armando Iannucci’s pre-Veep Brit political satire The Thick of It.
“It’s The Thick of It and Doctor Who,” says a charming (and clean-mouthed) Capaldi, about the roles he’s most recognized for (he played the twelfth incarnation of the Doctor in the cult sci-fi series from 2013 to 2017). “Surprisingly, The Thick of It is still incredibly popular [the series wrapped in 2012]. People, generally very cool, smart young people, recognize me from that a lot. They generally just ask me to swear at them.”
Of course, there’s a lot more to Capaldi than Tucker and the Doctor. His scores of film and TV appearances include playing alongside Burt Lancaster in Bill Forsyth’s 1983 classic Local Hero,...

The streamer has made an eight-episode series order for Criminal Record, a new one-hour thriller starring Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo as detectives in a tug of war over a historic murder conviction. From BAFTA Award nominee Paul Rutman (Vera, Indian Summers), the series is currently in production in London and is produced for Apple TV+ by Tod Productions and Stv Studios.
Described by Apple as a “powerful, character-driven thriller set in the heart of contemporary London,” the show sees an anonymous phone call draw two brilliant detectives into a confrontation over an old murder case: one a young woman in the early stages of her career; the other, a well-connected man determined to protect his legacy. The series touches on issues of race,...

The 23-minute short stars Richard E. Grant (who later appeared in Doctor Who alongside Capaldi’s predecessor Matt Smith) as the author Franz Kafka as he tries to write one of his most famous stories, The Metamorphosis. The novella...
