Good news: NBC's The Irrational will return for Season 2 in the fall of 2024. Even better, most of the cast will be returning.
The Jesse L. Martin-led police procedural stands out in a sea of crime dramas because it focuses on a behavioral scientist who moonlights as an FBI consultant. It is fun, entertaining, and easy to follow.
We've got you covered if you're playing catch-up now that the season has ended.
Our The Irrational Season 2 cast and character guide covers everything you need to know about the characters before you begin this unique series.
How The Irrational Is Different From Other Shows
The Irrational is not purely a police procedural.
Since the main character is a behavioral scientist, neuroscientific principles often come into play when solving each case.
It's not quite as gimmicky as Elsbeth, where the lead detective's quirkiness is the backbone of the show, but it...

The holiday season is in full swing, which means December 24th, 9 pm, Eastern Standard Time is gaining on us as we speak. And with all the wintertime hustle and bustle comes the oft-asked question: Is Rent a Christmas movie or not?
The 2005 film adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s hit Broadway musical starts off on Christmas Eve. It chronicles a year in the life of a group of artistic friends living in New York’s East Village in the late 1980s. The final scene takes place on the following Christmas Eve. As such, it has become one of those movies — like...

On a recent quiet morning at The Summit, the ultra-exclusive gated community in Los Angeles, a crane was called to deliver olive trees to Sebastian Maniscalco’s house.
The Illinois native, known for relatable stand-up about his immigrant parents, and for his onstage physicality and boisterousness, went uncharacteristically silent watching the evergreens drop down on his stunning views of Beverly Hills. He’s used to talking about his much humbler roots.
“I like to poke fun or make light of what we see in society and make fun of my own family and my old-world immigrant upbringing. I think I do it in a way where we’re all laughing together,” he tells Variety.
Maniscalco’s father, Salvatore, emigrated from Sicily at age 15, getting a beautician’s license to support his wife and kids with cut-and-dye jobs in a suburban salon. He is the inspiration for “About My Father,” a...

In the brain-tickling eyesore that is “Three Thousand Years of Longing,” Tilda Swinton plays a narratologist, which is to say, someone who studies stories. Her character, Dr. Alithea Binnie, thinks she’s heard them all, so she’s ahead of the game when she suddenly finds herself at the center of a whopper, a modern-day fairy tale involving a djinn (Idris Elba) ready and eager to grant her three wishes. Some movies aspire to uncover the meaning of life. This one aims to uncover the meaning of movies — as director George Miller attempts to crack the all-encompassing formula for story, the way Albert Einstein did for theoretical physics.
That’s an awful lot for any filmmaker to bite off, but then, this is George Miller we’re talking about, and where else does one go after making the ne plus ultra of action movies, “Mad Max: Fury Road”? Many will...

Jesse L. Martin will star in “The Irrational” pilot for NBC, the network announced on Wednesday.
The actor, who has played Captain Joe West on The CW’s “The Flash” for eight seasons, is dropping from series regular to recurring for the ninth season of the superhero series and will still appear in “multiple episodes,” TheWrap has learned.
In “The Irrational,” Martin will play Alec Baker, a world-renowned professor of behavioral science who lends his expertise to an array of high-stakes cases involving governments, corporations and law enforcement. His world is turned upside down when he meets his match in a female domestic terror suspect. The pilot is based on Dan Ariely’s best-setting “Predictably Irrational” and the author is on board as consultant.
Martin’s previous series for NBC include “Law & Order,” where he played Detective Ed Green for almost 10 years, and “Smash,” on which he recurred as Scott Welker,...

Jesse L. Martin has been tapped as the lead of NBC’s drama pilot The Irrational as he is leaving the CW’s The Flash after eight seasons. While Martin will no longer be a series regular on the Berlanti Prods./Warner Bros. TV-produced The Flash, he is expected to appear in multiple episodes of the DC drama in its recently picked up ninth season.
Tony winner Martin was one of four remaining Flash original cast members, along with star Grant Gustin, Candice Patton and Danielle Panabaker. The existing contracts of all four were up at the end of the current eighth season. As Deadline reported in late January, the studio closed a new deal with Gustin ahead of the CW’s renewal of the show for Season 9 last month. December 24, 2014 — not exactly at 9 p.m. eastern standard time — certainly capped off Andy Señor Jr. shooting without a script in Havana, Cuba as he staged a production of Jonathan Larson’s “Rent” and shot behind-the-scenes footage for what eventually became the documentary “Revolution Rent.”
Opening the show on Christmas Eve certainly became a gift, not only to the Cuban theater company he put together for the production and the local people the show touched once it was mounted, but for Señor himself, who took his career to the next level by directing the documentary alongside Victor Patrick Alvarez.
“It doesn’t matter what I do in my career, no matter what’s going on, if there’s an opportunity to do ‘Rent,’ I hope to always have this in my life,” Señor tells Variety. “There’s nothing more special than to see a group of actors discover not only the...

Seventy years after The Grapes of Wrath was published, its themes – corporate greed, joblessness – are back with a vengeance. Melvyn Bragg on John Steinbeck's remarkable legacy
I read The Grapes of Wrath in that fierce span of adolescence when reading was a frenzy. I was all but drowned in the pity and anger John Steinbeck evoked for these people, fleeing Oklahoma to seek work but finding nothing save cruelty, violence, the enmity of immoral banks and businesses, and the neglect by the state of its own people in the Land of the Free. The novel was published in 1939 and delivered a shock to the English reading world.
But for years I did not read him. Earlier this year, when asked to make a film about Steinbeck for the BBC, I went back with apprehension. The peaks of one's adolescent reading can prove troughs in late middle age. Life moves on; not all books do.
