Copenhagen-based TrustNordisk has just picked up international rights to the Danish drama “Home” by actor-turned director Marijana Jankovic (“The House that Jack Built”).
For her debut feature after 2019’s multi-awarded short film “Maja,” a best short winner at Tribeca, Jankovic has assembled an impressive A-list international cast.
This includes Dejan Cukic (“Snabba Cash”), Nada Sargin (“The Mould”), Zlatko Buric (“Triangle of Sadness”), Claes Bang (“The Square”), Jesper Christensen, Trine Dyrholm (“The Girl With the Needle”) and Lene Maria Christensen (“Unruly”).
Based on a script co-penned by Jankovic with the seasoned Bo Hr. Hansen, behind Thomas Vinterberg’s upcoming series “Families like Ours,” a hit at MipTV, and Babak Vakili (“Outlaw”), the story is inspired by the director’s own experience, and feelings of and reflections on uprootedness.
Aged six, she moved from Montenegro to Denmark with her parents, but feeling homesick, she returned to her grandmother’s care. A year later,...

Projects participated in the Nordic festival’s works in progress event.
Ruben Ostlund got buyers and festival programmers hopping with excitement in Goteborg as he presented the first footage from his forthcoming fifth feature The Square during the festival’s work in progress pitches.
Ostlund screened about seven minutes from one scene of the new film, during which a controversial performance artist (played by Terry Notary) makes guests at a black-tie art gala very uncomfortable. “You know I love awkward situations,” the director said.
Goteborg’s audience of industry experts commented that they were impressed by the confidence of the unnerving scene, which showed Ostlund working on a bigger scale even than his last hit, Force Majeure.
At a festival session later for the public, Ostlund previewed a second clip from the film, in which a museum director (Claes Bang) delivers a self-centered video apology to a boy he had accused of being a thief.

There’s no such thing as easy money, something actor Joel Kinnaman learned back in 2010 when he starred in Daniel Espinosa’s fairly well received crime thriller aptly titled, you guessed it – Easy Money. Instead of finding riches, Mr. Kinnaman found a jail sentence and heartbreak, leading into Babak Najafi’s direct sequel, Easy Money: Hard To Kill – the second movie in this now three film franchise. Although we’re working with a new director and a newer team, Babak still keeps the same thrilling focus that made Espinosa’s original film so intriguing, but our new story also plays it safe by working with most of the same characters. Again, there’s no such thing as easy money, but when you mirror a successful formula, you’ve still got it pretty damn easy.

Man of Straw: Kinnaman Beginagain in Energetic Yet Paltry Sequel
While Swedish director Daniel Espinosa’s 2010 film Easy Money kicked off his lucrative international status, it also opened up a lot of doors for star Joel Kinnaman, who has now starred in the complete trilogy inspired by the success of the first film. Director Babak Najafi takes up director credit for the first sequel, Easy Money: Hard to Kill, a 2012 title that will hit Us theaters not long before the trilogy cap follows suit. Many of the cast members from the first film pop up here for a hyperkinetic reunion, slickly edited together in blasts of juxtaposition where three parallel subplots inevitably converge. Featuring a strong set-up that is neither marred by endless posturing or redundant rehash, we’re finally dumped into a soggy middle-of-the-road finale after a trip that is neither as heartily written nor excitingly performed as the first entry.

Ah yes, the allure of film noir is so very addictive. Set-up saps, dangerous dames, crime bosses, goons with gats, they’ve been a part of American cinema since the 1940′s. One of the genre’s biggest fans is Martin Scorsese ( you could say he put his own spin on them starting with Mean Streets and Taxi Driver ). Well, Mr. S knows when it’s done well, that why he’s put his name ( as in “Martin Scorsese presents” ) on this Swedish import. Sweden? The land of dour relationship dramas? Well, it turns out that they can make a very engaging crime thriller. Particularly director Daniel Espinosa ( he’s already jumped across the pond to make the recent Denzel Washington spy caper Safe House ), who gives us the taut nail-biter Easy Money. And if you know your noir, you know there’s nothing easy about going after those elusive big bucks.

Easy Money
Directed by Daniel Espinosa
Sweden, 2010
Sometimes it just takes a little bit of American television to help out the little guy. Made in 2010, Daniel Espinosa’s Swedish thriller is only now hitting American theaters, likely on the strength of its lead, Joel Kinnaman, who American audiences will recognize from the polarizing AMC television show The Killing, and who is soon to don the metallic Robocop suit in the inevitable remake.
Hyper in the Guy Ritchie mold, but without the annoying stereotypes, one-liners, and slim narratives, Easy Money is a thriller that fits the trend of recent dark, front-to-back actioners like the excellent French Point Blank.
Jw (Kinnaman) is a brilliant economics student, a misfit and a bit of a conman. He’s a taxi driver by night, but spends his weekends playing the part of the rich playboy. In order to keep up his idealized lifestyle he takes...

Photo: The Weinstein Co. Daniel Espinosa's Easy Money (Snabba Cash), a Swedish gangster film based on Jens Lapidas's novel of the same name, has already landed a distribution deal through the Weinstein Co. while Warner Bros. is attempting to put together a U.S. remake with Zac Efron in the lead role (not so sure about that latter decision). The film, in fact, was so popular in its native Sweden it grossed more than the third film in the Millennium trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, and resulted in Espinosa being courted for the likes of X-Men: First Class and ultimately landed him a gig directing Safe House with stars Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds at Universal. Is the film that good? Well it sure isn't bad.
