Twenty-one DGA members have graduated from the guild’s 2021 TV Mentorship Program, which pairs seasoned episodic television directors with members seeking to develop TV directing careers. Read the names below.
The program, which is part of the DGA’s diversity and inclusion initiative, pairs early-career directors (protégés) with veteran TV directors (mentors) who serve as their professional guides to the working world of episodic television.
“Today we shine a light on our graduating class for their talent, commitment and hard work – and extend our heartfelt gratitude to this exceptional group of accomplished mentors who dedicated so much of their time to teach, to listen, and to set their protégés up for success,” said DGA president Thomas Schlamme. “Seeking to build a career as an aspiring episodic television director in the middle of a pandemic couldn’t be more challenging, but every one of our graduates chose to take that time...

Production has been completed on That One Time, an independent pilot for Lucky 13 Productions that was directed and created by Melanie Wagor, a 2020 DGA Director Development Initiative protégé.
Dermot Mulroney and newcomer Dylan Flashner star in the project, written by Wagor and Cameron Northey. Wagor and Joel Michaely are executive producers, and Northey is co-executive producer.
The pilot follows a diverse group of high school students as they struggle to define themselves while contending with what it means to be a teenager in 2019 – a time fraught with sex, drugs, social media, turbulent friendships, dysfunctional families and rapid societal change.
Jenna Leigh Green, Yazmin Monet Watkins, Troy Gentile, Ryan Malaty, Dana Melanie, Michelle DeShon and Robyn Lively are also in the cast.

USA Network’s longest-running series on the air, dramedy Psych, is extending its run. It has been renewed for a 16-episode seventh season that will premiere later this year. In a first, the news was broken by the series’ stars James Roday and Dulé Hill in a video on Psych‘s Facebook page and Twitter feed, which was unlocked by solving a puzzle with clues revealed throughout the day. “We are always trying to find ways to reward our Psych brand ambassadors for their loyalty and passion and social media plays a critical role in how we connect with the people who matter most — the fans,” USA co-presidents Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel said. The recent 2011 portion of Psych‘s sixth season averaged 2.31 million viewers among adults 18-49 and 1.22 million adults 18-34 in Live+7, both series highs. The show returns with the conclusion of Season 6 on February 29. Psych is executive produced by creator Steve Franks,...

As if the sixth season premier of Psych is not enough to get everyone excited, in a recent conference call with press, creator and executive producer Steve Franks provided a bit more insight into his dream Psych episodes and what he hopes for in the (cross-your fingers!) show’s seventh season.
James Roday alluded to the seasonal finale of Season 6 as having a big cliffhanger. If the series is not picked up for Season 7, would you conclude the show with a movie or something like that?
Steve: It was sort of a natural. When we’re finishing up the season finale, we had something big planned that we didn’t think work well enough and something we sort of saved. And as we looked at the way the story is developing, along the course we found like a really, really cool cliffhanger, and we ended up shooting that as our finale.

Psych returns tonight at 10/9c, and the hit show isn't slowing down this season. Still loaded with incredible guest stars and pineapples, it's as fun as ever, and somehow still comes through fresh as the first season. Of course, even I have to admit that a couple of episodes last season went a bit off, but there were also some amazing efforts in there, and this season is kicking off with some brilliant shows.
Tonight's episode, "Shawn Rescues Darth Vader," brings us guest stars Malcolm McDowell and Polly Walker, and gives us not only a good case, but throws us right into the heart of the relationship/work troubles sure to arise betweeen Shawn and Juliet. The case finds Shawn stuck in a rather serious predicament, and one that means he has to get unusually specific in his predictions, which raises its own red...

There's a straight forward simple story at the core of Mel Damski's Legendary that is, unfortunately, cluttered and clouded by extraneous characters and situations.
WWE Studios goes for the heartstrings with this approachable drama about shattered bonds and the healing properties of sports. In typical melodrama fashion, the movie forces every possible character archetype and familiar situation without charting its own course, and provides only sparing surprises from an otherwise predictable set of events.
Cal Chetley (Devon Graye) attempts to repair the deep wounds in his family by uniting them through the common cause of sport and a fledgling career in high school wrestling. His older brother Mike Chetley (John Cena) is damaged and scarred by the loss of his father and plagued by a penchant for alcohol. Through his tutelage of his younger brother, Mike Chetley reconnects with his family and leaves behind his demons. It's a heartwarming,...

A fresh sneak peek for "Legendary" has surfaced online before the film hits limited U.S. theaters on September 10. Shorter than the first trailer, the new one is packed with scenes which expose Devon Graye's Cal Chetley who is determined to be a wrestler like his brother Mike, portrayed by WWE Superstar John Cena.
Mike, a one time world-class high school/collegiate wrestler, left Cal and his mother behind years ago after a tragic car accident killed their father - and accident to this day Mike feels responsible for. A book-smart and undersized fifteen-year-old boy, Cal is far from how a wrestler is supposed to be. Tim Matheson’s name used to be synonymous with the classic‘70s frat film Animal House. But after enjoying almost 50 years in theentertainment business (not bad for a 63-year-old), Matheson has finally seemedto officially shed his Eric Stratton association.
These days, the actor/director is better known as the goldenboy of USA Networks, where he frequently works behind the camera and makes the occasionalguest appearance on shows like Burn Notice, White Collar, and Covert Affairs.
In a recent interview, Matheson talked about whether heconsiders himself more of an actor or a director, his role at USA, and theparts he’d like to explore at the network.
Q: Since you’re doing both the acting and directing, do youconsider yourself more of an actor or a director?
Tim: I think at the moment—that’s so hard. I think right nowI’m more of a director...

If you've never seen Dee Wallace in a film then you probably don't watch movies, because at this moment she has 179 credits to her name as a professional actress, 18 of those projects yet to be released- which led me to first ask her where in the world she found the time to call me for a phone interview yesterday afternoon. She somehow made time for me to ask her a few questions about her career and life in the entertainment industry, and provided some really cool behind the scenes stories to some of the biggest movies ever made.
Dee Wallace has worked with directors like Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Joe Dante, Rob Zombie, and Blake Edwards- there's a reason that prestigious directors like these have called on her time and time again, and if you look at films like The Howling, Cujo, E.T., or The Frighteners , that reason will be clearly evident.

"Psych" will be sleuthing for another year.
USA Network has renewed the crime comedy for a fifth season with a 16-episode order.
"Psych," starring James Roday as a fake psychic with great observational skills and Dule Hill as his best friend and partner in their police consulting business, was a breakout hit for the network when it launched in July 2006 as the highest-rated USA series debut.
The series, from Universal Cable Prods. and creator Steve Franks, has consistently delivered solid ratings, especially in the younger demographics.
" 'Psych' just keeps getting better and better," said USA president of original programming Jeff Wachtel. "Steve, James, Dule and the entire team keep us laughing and keep the audience coming back for more."
"Psych" will face a challenge in January when the second half of its fourth season will run for the first time without its formidable lead-in, "Monk," which is wrapping its eight-season run in December.
