One of the most prominent themes throught “Younger” is the differences between Millenials and Gen X, which has helped to broaden the show’s audience to those of all ages. But it’s also posed interesting challenges to the cast and writers. At TheWrap’s screening of the final two episodes of “Younger” Season 2 on Monday, creator Darren Star, writer Dottie Zicklin and stars Sutton Foster and Hilary Duff explained how they often have to learn from each other, because the generational divide can be so great. For instance, Zicklin said she’s had to learn about Snapchat because it...

Most of the new comedies NBC ordered for next season look like the comedies that have aired on the network in recent years: They're laugh track-free, single-camera shows in the vein of "30 Rock" or "Community."
But not all of them. The fall show "Whitney" and the midseason series "Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea" care cut from the old-school sitcom mold -- a live audience you can hear laughing, multiple cameras and setup-punchline rhythms reminiscent of shows from NBC's comedy heyday in the '80s and '90s.
Formal differences aside, though, what matters with any comedy is whether it's funny. Here are our first impressions of NBC's comedy offerings for 2011-12.
The fall comedies:
"Free Agents" (watch clips)

It's that time again, and NBC has revealed it's 2011-2012 schedule. A couple of things have been kicked to the curb, and a host of new shows are coming to fill things in. I have a preview of the new fall shows, and the full schedule for you. There are a few surprises on the cut and not cut side of things, and the new shows have a bit of something for everyone. As usual, some of the ones that look the best to me are reserved for mid-season. And, NBC has apparently given up on Saturday altogether.
It's a whole lot of info, so let's just jump in.
NBC has introduced its 2011-12 primetime schedule, showcasing six new dramas and six new comedies from a roster of renowned hit-makers that includes Steven Spielberg, Lorne Michaels, Brian Grazer, Tom Werner, John Grisham and Peter Berg, among many others.

After spending untold amounts of cash on hundreds of dramas and comedies — most of which will never make it to your living rooms — the five broadcast networks will begin announcing in New York next week which projects are good enough to earn a coveted fall pickup. (NBC and Fox will present their fall schedule to advertisers on Monday, followed by ABC on Tuesday, CBS on Wednesday and the CW on Thursday).
Buzz is already strong for several projects (for more on the hot ones, click here). But every year, we always wonder what diamond-in-the-rough was left on the cutting room...

And they’re off! Casting is all but completed and production has already begun on scores of pilots for the five broadcast networks. But not every comedy and drama will go the distance. Which project has the right stuff? What pilot already has you feeling like you popped a Lunesta? Check out the mammoth slate for fall consideration. (And remember, all projects are whittled down in late April/early May before the nets present their fall slates to advertisers in New York):

After a rather aggressive pilot season that has spared no expense in terms of big names (Stephen Spielberg, David E. Kelly, Chelsea Handler, Debra Messing, Peter Berg, Michael Patrick King, Jack Black, etc.), NBC has more or less finished ordering pilots for 2011-12. All in all, there are 24 pilots in total (11 dramas, 13 comedies) and a lot of 'em don't sound half bad.
I know, you can hardly tell anything by titles and descriptions, as shows good on paper can be executed poorly and shows that sound ridiculous can be the funniest or most touching show around, but now that we finally have every order in, it's not a bad idea to look through what they have here, what they need, and where they're going as a network.
What they have here is a whole lot of risks (especially on the drama side), but that's what it's going to take in...

NBC is pretty much done ordering pilots for the 2011-12 prime time season and, under the new leadership of Robert Greenblatt, the network seems to be doing exactly what it needs to dig itself out from behind CBS and Fox: It needs to go big and bold. (Right now, NBC ranks third among adults 18-49 with a 2.6 rating/7 share and fourth in viewers, with 7.8 million). Though the network has picked up its share of (safe) comedies, it’s definitely taking some much-needed risks with drama development. The Wonder Woman project from David E. Kelley may come with a high-price tag,...

NBC ordered four new comedy pilots Wednesday, including projects from Chelsea Handler and Whitney Cummings.
Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea is based on Handler's best-selling book of the same name. Inspired by the life of the E! late-night host, the comedy follows a group of twentysomethings — led by an outspoken young woman — living and working together. Handler will serve as an executive producer along with Tom Werner, Mike Clements (Life and Times of Tim) and Tom Brunelle. Julie Larson (Rent) and Dottie Dartland Zicklin (Dharma & Greg) wrote the pilot.

Updated, 1/7: Each year, the five broadcast networks develop hundreds of scripted dramas and comedies in hopes they’ll become the next NCIS and Desperate Housewives, or the latest Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory. And like every year, a great deal of them are not worth mentioning here — mostly because they involve the bland types of cops, lawyers, and doctors who you’ve already seen fighting crime or sneaking a kiss on the way to the ER.

Lawyers for Twentieth Century Fox Television and profit participants on the sitcom "Dharma & Greg" were back in court Friday in a case that could cost the studio as much as $15 million or more in revenue from the hit 1997-2002 series.
In a strange twist, the outcome of the litigation also could take a big chunk of money away from "Dharma" co-creator Chuck Lorre.
In October 2007, a lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by several creative forces behind "Dharma," including star Jenna Elfman, co-creator Dottie Dartland, director James Burrows, executive producer More-Medavoy Management and talent agency Slessinger & Associates.
The plaintiffs claimed that Twentieth, which produced the show, was underpaying them in part by improperly deducting Lorre's considerable backend interest before calculating what was owed to them under their own deals.

Citing improper accounting practices, Dharma & Greg's co-creator, writer, executive producer and lead actress have filed suit against 20th Century Fox TV, claiming that they are owed $15 million in profit-participation payments.
At issue in the state court lawsuit, filed Oct. 1 in Santa Monica, is the modified adjusted gross receipts agreement with co-creators Dottie Dartland and Chuck Lorre.
The plaintiffs claim that Fox improperly deducted those modified adjusted gross receipts payments to Dartland and Lorre from the gross receipts of the series, and that significantly understated their share of the modified adjusted gross receipts.
The plaintiffs include Jenna Elfman, Dartland, Michael Slessinger, executive producer James Burrows and More-Medavoy Management. Lorre is not a party to the litigation.
A Fox spokesman said the studio does not comment on pending litigation.
The lawsuit's claims are broken down by the percentage each plaintiff claims that they're entitled to get. For example, Elfman and Slessinger, who acted as a consultant with regard to creation, development and licensing of the series, claim that Fox agreed to pay each of them 5% of the modified adjusted gross receipts.

Dartland Zicklin has come on board the network's comedy pilot starring Elfman and executive produced by Darren Star as executive producer/showrunner.

Matthew Reilly penned the pilot, which Zicklin will executive produce with Star.
Originally set up at Sony Pictures TV where Star is based, Superstars will now become a co-production with ABC Studios where Dartland Zicklin has an overall deal.
