In 2013 Dick Clark Productions bought former marketing exec Carlos de Abreu's glitzy fall awards season sidebar, the Hollywood Film Awards, which used to be attached to his shabby Hollywood Film Festival, which he also sold. De Abreu's former festival never quite found its niche, lacking legitimacy and picking mediocre films. The Hollywood Film Awards cleverly piggy-backed on award season to lure major stars to make red carpet appearances. The good news in a world with too many awards shows leading up to the Oscars: CBS will not air this year's Hollywood Film Awards, after the show's inaugural broadcast on Nov. 14, 2014 averaged just 4.1 million viewers. The bad news: the 19th Hollywood Film Awards will still be held on Nov. 1 at the Beverly Hilton. Clip highlights will post online, presumably including Robert De Niro's acceptance of this year's Hollywood Career Achievement Award, as Dick Clark Productions seeks an elusive TV partner.
