- Co-wrote with Brazilian guitarist Antonio Carlos Jobim the song "Garota de Ipanema" that became best known as "The Girl From Ipanema", one of the most recorded songs of all time in popular music. The song was inspired by the beautiful Helô Pinheiro who used to pass by the café where both men used to relax near the beach. English lyrics later added, were written by Norman Gimbel.
