Andre Braugher’s cause of death has been revealed to be lung cancer, his rep has confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Braugher died Monday at 61 after what his rep then said was a “brief illness.”
He starred as master interrogator Det. Frank Pembleton on NBC’s Homicide: Life on the Street for the first six seasons of the show’s acclaimed run, then played another cop, Capt. Raymond Holt — this time against type and for laughs — on the 2013-21 Fox-nbc sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
He won his first Emmy in 1998 for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for Homicide after a season that featured one of its most memorable episodes, “Subway.” That was a two-hander in which Pembleton tries to unearth whether a man (Vincent D’Onofrio) pinned between a Baltimore subway train and the platform was pushed onto the track — while also trying to comfort him in his dying moments.

Krysten Ritter has fallen down an all new rabbit hole in the first look at the AMC Networks’ anticipated spinoff, Orphan Black: Echoes.
The network released the minute-and-a-half trailer on Thursday during its panel for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, and sees a disoriented Lucy (portrayed by Ritter) waking up to an unrecognizable near future. The original series is set in the same clone-filled universe as its critically acclaimed and fan-loved BBC America predecessor, Orphan Black, which starred Tatiana Maslany.
“What’s wrong with me?” Ritter’s Lucy can be seen asking. ”Why don’t I know who I am?”
The series is set to explore the scientific manipulation of human existence and will follow a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives while embarking on a journey that will both unravel the mystery of their identity and uncover a story of love and betrayal.

It's hard to believe that the Orphan Black franchise is staging a comeback almost seven years after its series finale.
Thankfully, it looks like Orphan Black: Echoes will fit into the franchise very well.
Krysten Ritter is known for delivering stellar performances, and we should expect more of the same in the AMC, AMC+, and BBC America sequel series, set to air in 2024.
The promo was unveiled during New York Comic Con on Thursday and showcases Ritter as Lucy, a young woman caught up in what we can only describe as a nightmare.
"Set in the near future, Orphan Black: Echoes takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence," the logline reveals.

Over six years after the finale of “Orphan Black,” AMC has returned with a first look at the upcoming spin-off “Orphan Black: Echoes.” The teaser was released as New York Comic Con enters its first day on Thursday.
The teaser shows Krysten Ritter as a dazed Lucy asking a woman, “What’s wrong with me? Why don’t I know who I am?”
As the teaser cycles between futuristic scenes of a large city, versions of Lucy emerging from pink test tubes and past and present iterations of the character cycling through various settings, Lucy’s monologue changes. “I have to face them. We have to figure out who we are,” she says by the trailer’s end.
Set in the same universe as the cult favorite Canadian sci-fi-thriller, “Orphan Black: Echoes” follows a group of women as they become enmeshed in each other’s lives. Along the way, they...

Michael Chiklis knew "The Shield" would attract audiences before it even premiered. He showed a rough cut of the pilot to his neighbors and when they reached the now infamous ending — Chiklis' character, the corrupt detective Vic Mackey, kills one of his own men, Terry Crowley (Reed Diamond), who'd been spying on the rest of the team -- Chiklis recalled:
"One of my friends turned and said, 'Oh my God, you're a villain.' And my other friend went, 'Wait a minute, whoa! He's not a villain, that guy's [Crowley] a rat.' And they started vehemently fighting and I just sat there going [...] 'Wow, we're onto something here.'"
According to Chiklis, this divide spoke to the question of the show: how much evil will we accept from law enforcement in the name of public safety? It was an especially pertinent question in the wake of 9/11 and his friends'...

When we first see Andrea Bautista on screen in The Mosquito Coast, it's at a sophisticated soiree where deadly henchman William Lee (Ian Hart) warns the show's protagonist Allie Fox (Justin Thoreaux) that the Bautista family is going to be a problem if they're seen.
The enigma of Andrea Bautista grows as we don't see or hear from her except a single long shot, but she's definitely someone to be reckoned with.

This article contains spoilers for Better Call Saul through season 6 episode 9.
Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are well known for focusing on tightly-wound plots that usually exclude discussion on many of their characters’ personal lives. Most of the scenes we see relate back to their roles in the crime world, and if we see these in-between moments, they tie back to the main narrative.
This is why one particular scene was a real breath of fresh air on Better Call Saul season 6 episode 9 “Fun and Games.” Fresh off his victory over Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton) in the midseason premiere, Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) decides to relax with a glass of wine at a fancy restaurant. As AMC’s Better Call Saul nears its series finale on Aug. 15, the Breaking Bad prequel has turned its directing reins over to an all-star team of franchise directors, including veteran writer-producer-directors like Thomas Schnauz, Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, as well as Breaking Bad favorite Michelle MacLaren.
This week’s episode was directed by Michael Morris, who was behind the camera for the season six premiere, as well as pivotal episodes including “Wexler v. Goodman” and “The Guy for This.” Certainly “Fun and Games,” like “The Guy for This” written by Ann Cherkis, is pivotal.
How pivotal? Well, we’re going to have to see. After two straight episodes featuring the demise of regular characters, “Fun and Games” was casualty-free, but it features key scenes that either will or won’t be series wraps on Rhea Seehorn’s Kim,...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Better Call Saul” Season 6, Episode 9, “Fun and Games.”]
For as much as “Better Call Saul” has functioned as a prequel, one of its undeniable strengths has been looking at what happens when the smoke clears. It’s a show that rises to its most harrowing moments, as the past few weeks have shown. The latest chapter, “Fun and Games,” is a different kind of trick, the ability to embed that same kind of stomach-dropping firepower in a handful of conversations. It’s an hour of faces of people forced to reckon with what’s now broken in their own lives, whether or not they fully blame themselves for doing the actual breaking.
Kim (Rhea Seehorn) and Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) get the lion’s share of the opening (filled with two of the most mischievous match cuts this creative team has ever pulled off), as they each follow Mike’s instructions...

The Girl in the Woods is one of the most exciting TV shows of the year.
The series follows a young woman's escape from a mysterious cult-like colony that guards the world from monsters hidden behind a door in the woods.
TV Fanatic got the chance to chat with Sofia Bryant (Tasha), Misha Osherovich (Nolan), Will Yun Lee (Arthur Dean), Reed Diamond (Hosea), and Kylie Lya Page (Sara) about bringing the series to life.
We also talked with Stefanie Scott, who plays Carrie. Stefanie's full interview is at the bottom of the post in video form.
One thing that was evident from the series is that all of the characters get a lot to work with. They feel very well-developed, and the show does not waste a single character.
Reed was ecstatic to work on the show because it had everything his 13-year-old daughter is looking for.
"She's looking for real compelling horror.

The Leverage crew has reunited on IMDb TV, minus their longtime mastermind. What did the premiere reveal about what each team member has been up to? And how was “the very brilliant, very angry” Nate Ford written out?
The first of Leverage: Redemption‘s opening eight episodes (another eight arrive in the fall) picked up on the anniversary of Nate’s death, which his widow Sophie was dreading. Whenever a flick debuts at a film festival and then takes a year to come out, people can suspect the worst. Well, I’m here to tell you that Our Friend is an exception to that. I saw the movie back when it was going by The Friend as its title, during its festival run, and it’s a very good film. Casey Affleck, Dakota Johnson, and Jason Segel give top notch performances, to say the least. Now, as it prepares for a January release, a Trailer has debuted, featuring a quote from none other than yours truly! That was an honor, and it’s a pleasure to be quoted in such a strong work. Take a look at the Trailer below and be sure to keep an eye out for my citation! Here’s the description I wrote for the movie last year, when it was still called The Friend...

Wildly uneven but sporadically affecting, Bobby Roth’s “Pearl” is . A few abrupt narrative transitions indicate that some scenes, for whatever reason, must have been discarded during the editing process. But what remains on screen is enough to hold attention and generate rooting interest, especially if you’re amused by inside-baseball allusions to the film and TV industry.
There is an unmistakable air of autobiography to “Pearl,” along with the distinct flavor of a labor of love. Writer-director Roth first attracted notice with two well-received indie films, “The Boss’ Son” (1978) and “Heartbreakers” (a 1984 Sundance Festival prize-winner) before concentrating almost exclusively (and prolifically) on TV movies and series television. Jack Wolf, Lapaglia’s character, is a filmmaker who evidently has made some very bad, maybe unforgivable career moves, but still sells the occasional TV script.

It’s hard to find the right tone when telling a terminal illness tale. Over at the Toronto International Film Festival, The Friend was one of the world premieres and offers up a different way of telling a cancer drama. In part, by not focusing as largely on the patient, this is more about the human toll on family members. Moreover, the movie is as much as anything a tale of friendship, and a wholly special one at that. Buoyed by some tremendous acting, this film can be a bumpy ride, but it arrives at a rather compelling place. Toronto may be losing this one in the shuffle, but that’s a real shame. The film is a look at an extraordinary friendship, based on a true story. When Matt Teague (Casey Affleck) first meets Dane Faucheux (Jason Segel), he’s prepared to hate him. After all, he’s the...

The Terror Season 2 Episode 5
Last week's episode of The Terror: Infamy was a turning point, and it feels like the season as a whole has finally come into its own with "Shatter Like a Pearl," an exciting and scary episode that focuses in on the series' most captivating storylines. If the first three episodes felt like a bit of a slog, especially for horror fans hoping for a tone and atmosphere similar to the first season, then Infamy's fifth hour is a rollercoaster ride full of severed ears, walking corpses, and yurei.
"Shatter Like a Pearl" steps into these more traditional horror sequences elegantly, weaving a story about loss and racial tensions throughout. Always excellent is Cristina Rodlo as the grief-stricken Luz Ojeda, or "the ghost woman,...

After watching this episode, I had to wonder: why not more underwater crimes?
Like this classic locked-room mystery on Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 13.
I'm sure underwater photography jacks the production costs up big time. But with two ex-SEALs on FIve-0 and islands surrounded by all kinds of water, it is kind of a natural idea.

While some cable networks strike gold with hit TV series, usually cable shows just don't draw the same sort of audience the big broadcast networks do. Although USA Network originally ordered the new TV show, The Purge, the thriller is also going to be rerun at times on its sister-station Syfy. Will running it on two NBC-Universal owned networks help it draw a larger audience, or at least minimize the cost to one network, or will viewers just be confused? Will The Purge be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.

The most recent “Purge” movie may have flashed back to show the origins of the frightening ritual, but the USA television series of the same name won’t be as political.
The New Founding Fathers of America (Nffa) are still a part of the show, most notably through the character of Albert Stanton (Reed Diamond), who is an architect of this new world order. But “for everybody else, it’s background noise,” says showrunner Thomas Kelly. “This is the world they live in.”
The show is set a decade after that first purge, and so the core characters have just gotten used to it as a part of their lives. The majority of them try to ignore it and go about their lives without giving into any “purge” urges.

For those fond of some (fictional) purging, 2018 heralds a tantalizing double bill from Blumhouse and Universal.
On the one hand, we have The First Purge, a movie prequel set to deep dive into the New Founding Fathers of America and explain how (and why) they authorized that 12-hour window of ungodly mayhem in the first place. And then comes The Purge, a spinoff TV series that chronicles the story of four people who experienced Purge Night and lived to tell the tale.

Among the cast for this one are Gabriel Chavarria, Jessica Garza, Hannah Emily Anderson, Lili Simmons, Amanda Warren, Colin Woodell,...
