Hugh Jackman will be returning to the role of Logan a.k.a Wolverine and will be making his MCU debut with the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor shares the screen with Ryan Reynolds and it will be the first official appearance of mutants in the MCU. Jackman was last seen in 2017’s Logan, after which he retired from the role.
Since the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine dropped, fans have been speculating which variant of Logan Jackman will be playing. The trailer hinted at Wolverine being from a universe that let his world down and Jackman can be seen being regretful for the wrongs he has done. While fans speculated if he played the Logan from X-Men ‘97, an industry insider had a different answer.

Former X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo has taken to social media to share a "homework assignment" for fans that may want a better idea of what to expect from the middle chapter in the three-part season finale, which airs on Disney+ next Wednesday.
DeMayo posted the cover to 1993's Uncanny X-Men #304, which marked the 30th anniversary celebration of the iconic mutant heroes, and the third chapter in the "Fatal Attractions" storyline.
Spoilers for Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1 and (possibly) Part 2 follow.
Though a few significant events occur in this issue that could inform the episode, we'd say it will most likely draw influence from Magneto's arc. Towards the end of Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1, Dr. Valerie Cooper frees Magnus from Bastion's prison, and the Master of Magnetism flies to one of the northern magnetic pole to manipulate Earth's magnetic field, using his powers to wipe...

Marvel Studios Animation has hit the jackpot with its new series X-Men ’97. The series has got the fandom deep in discussion about the X-Men characters and the themes that made the mutants popular. While the Animation department’s What If…? is considered MCU canon, the same cannot be said for X-Men ’97. While the showrunner Beau DeMayo definitively claimed that the animated series is a standalone entity, Marvel Studios was not so sure.
X-Men ’97 may not be MCU canon, but it was surely not an easy decision to make
Kevin Feige reportedly went back and forth a lot about making the animated series canon to the MCU. However, it appears that the show chose to stay on its own path for now, following in the footsteps of its predecessor X-Men: The Animated Series.

Every great X-Men story has some sort of relationship drama at its center. The pathos of characters having to deal with interpersonal conflicts while their existence is at stake is the kind of drama that defines a good X-Men story. It seems that X-Men ’97 understands this well, having introduced one of its most contentious love triangles back into the story, right as Genosha was blown up in a terrorist plot against the mutant population.
Jean Grey and Logan Howlett in X-Men ’97
X-Men ’97 created a lot of drama in Scott Summers’ life, exposing the mother of his child as a clone, while the actual Jean Grey might have been missing in action since the original Animated Series. However, with Jean returned, things took a a turn for the worse when Jean, in a moment of weakness, ended up kissing Wolverine, who was there to comfort her.

For decades, Hollywood has struggled with the concept of the reboot.
Not merely the "remake," which was a fairly common occurrence ever since Hollywood figured out how to upgrade the technology of The Wizard of Oz (1910) and re-film The Wizard of Oz (1939) -- now with sound and color! -- but specifically, the reboot.
As in upgrading not the technology but the culture of the original piece.
When The Brady Bunch Movie reboot came out in 1995, it was an audacious spectacle. It was reimagined as a tongue-in-cheek parody of 1960s/1970s culture and of the naivete of the original series.
By the early 2000s, reboots were no longer quirky experiments of avant-garde filmmakers but big money makers and even award-winning art films.
By the time Disney, Marvel, DC Comics, and Hasbro joined the reboot revolution, audiences had been lulled into a sense of tepid acceptance of all things rebooted. The visual effects were out of control.

Kids from the '90s kids rejoice! The X-Men are back, specifically the version from the animated series. Though it's been decades since "X-Men: The Animated Series" went off the air, the new show treats it as if no time has passed.
Despite the controversial last-minute firing of the show's creator, "X-Men '97" is exactly what you'd want it to be. In his review for /Film, Witney Seibold wrote "Just like classic rock, "X-Men '97" is familiar and comforting." Indeed, this is a rare revival that truly feels like a proper continuation of the original. Sure, the animation is a big upgrade and the action scenes are spectacular, but a lot of effort was put into making the new episodes feel like they belong to the same show as the '90s episodes.

The beauty of “X-Men ’97” (currently streaming on Disney+) is that it’s more than just a nostalgia trip — it’s a very timely continuation of “X-Men: The Animated Series” that addresses today’s more complicated world while staying true to the spirit of the original. There’s a greater celebration of queer diversity (Morph has been redesigned as a non-binary shapeshifter) but also an accelerated powder keg of hate, which makes the mutants’ enemies much more formidable. This calls for drastic action, which is why the torch has been passed to former arch nemesis Magneto (Matthew Waterson) to lead the X-Men following the loss of Professor Xavier.

‘X-Men ’97’ premiered yesterday on Disney+ with its first two episodes, and initial reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. The show debuted with a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics hailing it as the “Best Marvel release in years.” Metacritic also awarded the show a high score of 82, signifying “Universal acclaim,” a rare achievement for recent Marvel Studios projects.
The series capitalizes on its biggest strength: being a direct continuation of ‘X-Men: The Animated Series.’ It strives to emulate the characters and animation of its predecessor while presenting a more mature and “raw” plot compared to typical Marvel fare.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Winderbaum disclosed that Kevin Feige had two specific requirements before approving the show.

The X-Men animated show in the 1990s introduced the majority of fans to the world of mutants. Since then, the lore has been adapted for the big screen, and distinguished actors like Hugh Jackman have brought these beloved characters to life.
Now, nearly two decades later, the X-Men animated show is back once more. Marvel has brought back the X-Men: The Animated Series, albeit with a different title this time. The X-Men ’97 will pick up where the ’90s show ended, and the look has roused a wave of nostalgia among fans.

X-Men ’97, now streaming its first two 30-minute episodes on Disney+, achieves a retro/modern binary many revivals strive for but can’t quite nail.
Everything about it — from its opening credits and energetic theme music to its cheesy quips and character-specific idiosyncrasies — denotes a love for the material rivaling that of the most ardent X-philes, and for good reason. The people behind this belated continuation adore the comics and their various translations and incarnations.

“X-Men: The Animated Series” may have an enduring impact as meme fodder, but to many millennials, the Fox show was a gateway into one of Marvel’s most venerable franchises. Before the live-action blockbusters of the early aughts, and certainly before the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “The Animated Series” offered a primer on mutants as a powerful allegory for marginalized groups, plus iconic characters like the saber-clawed Wolverine and telepathic Jean Grey.

An eagerly anticipated continuation of one of the greatest Marvel animated series ever is set to happen with X-Men ‘97, fulfilling the dreams of all ‘90s Marvel fans. The reason for the peculiar name is that it is a revival of the acclaimed 1992 television program X-Men: The Animated Series, which aired for just one season before concluding in 1997.
With the release of the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer as well as the latest X-Men ‘97 update, Marvel appears to have successfully restored the trust of their fan base. The studio’s run of a few cinematic weak movies (The Marvels) left even the most devoted Marvel fans cold. "X-Men '97" brings back the marvelous mutants as if they never left TV screens after the original series finale, "Graduation Day." The trailer promised a tone and style befitting the original, plus plenty of Marvel comic book Easter eggs.
Now, the X-Men are larger than life — and ultimately, any one actor. In the 27-year hiatus between the 1992 series and this revival, the X-Men finally made it to live-action (we ranked their cinematic adventures here) and starred in other animated series. Since "X-Men '97" is a revival of a specific version of the X-Men, though, the show has brought back cast members and creatives from the original show. If they hadn't, then why revive this series instead of just making a new "X-Men" cartoon?
In its opening titles, "X-Men" would introduce each member of the team one-by-one with hero shots demonstrating their powers and/or quirks alongside huge text displaying their names.

“What the hell’s a mutant?”
Over 30 years ago, Canadian voice actor Cal Dodd auditioned for Project X, an animated show at the now-defunct Fox Kids – a children’s programming block known in the ‘90s for Saturday morning cartoons. He was up for a character called Wolverine, and he read lines for a scene with someone named Sabretooth.
“Is this an animal cartoon?” he recalls wondering as he stood in a vocal booth in Toronto.
Meanwhile in the U.S., Alison Sealy-Smith couldn’t believe she was stooping so low for her role.
“I had no idea what this was about,” she says. “They told me it was a cartoon. I felt a little quiver because I was supposed to be this serious actress. I was out in Connecticut doing Shakespeare at the time. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.”

We’re just a week away from the premiere of X-Men ’97, the highly anticipated relaunch of the beloved ’90s animated series, but in a shocking move, Marvel has fired creator Beau DeMayo.
THR reports that DeMayo was fired from X-Men ’97 last week, with his company e-mail immediately deactivated as cast and crew were informed that the creator was out of the picture. DeMayo’s Instagram account, which he frequently updated, has also been deleted. The reason behind the firing is unknown, as Marvel had no comment and DeMayo’s reps didn’t return calls. DeMayo had already completed work on the second season of X-Men ’97 and had even been brainstorming ideas for a potential third season, which makes his abrupt exit all the more mysterious.

If you grew up in the '90s, there's no way you could have escaped the cultural impact of "X-Men: The Animated Series." Alongside fellow Fox Kids superhero shows "Batman: The Animated Series" and "Spider-Man," the X-Men's animated adventures represented a true high point for superhero animation at the close of the century. Of course, it helped that the mutant team came armed with one of the most undeniably cool theme songs of all time. But the show itself was, much like the aforementioned Batman and the Spidey cartoons, memorable for not treating kids like dummies and including some pretty mature storylines and themes. As such, "X-Men: The Animated Series" left an indelible mark on kids around the globe with its 1992-'97 run.

Forgive the broadness of this Generation X boast, but the ‘90s were just different. Were they a simpler time? Perhaps. Were they a better time? Objectively yes, absolutely. At least in terms of pop culture, and again … that’s not really up for debate, that’s just a fact! At the very least, television was objectively stellar in the 1990s.
If that weren’t the case, then why is Friends one of the most streamed shows for teens recently? Why has the Fresh Prince reimagining worked? And most importantly: why is the greatest Saturday morning cartoon of all time making a Disney-fied comeback in X-Men ‘97?

Professor Charles Xavier died in the 1997 series finale of “X-Men: The Animated Series.” As Jean Grey observed at the time, “Fate lies in our hands now.”
As fate would have it, Disney+ has revived the iconic Saturday morning cartoon — and its classic animation style — as a new series for 2024. The 10-episode “X-Men ’97” premieres March 20 on the streamer, and on Thursday, February 15, Disney+ treated us to the trailer.

Cyclops (now voiced by Ray Chase; he was previously voiced by Norm Spencer) is the mutant-team’s leader, and Wolverine (still Cal Dodd) is still getting under his skin. The torch from Professor X...
